Taking my neice to WDW in September. I am having a horrible time deciding where to stay. On one hand I thought POFQ due to price. Have stayed at the POR and it was nice. On the other hand think something unique would be fun.

For those of you out there with DD and DN around 10yr, where would they want to stay? We have 4 nights so not going to split.

Thanks for help in advance! :earsgirl:

I let my niece pick -the Polyn was her answer. :rotfl:

I love the PO both of them are pretty nice.

I think you would be fine.

what does she like - slides - then CSR is a nice place to stay, gardens then PO can't be beat (my opinion), etc.

I think she might be a little too old for the slide at POFQ. however the PO are sister resorts- so she could see and try both.

Why did she pick the Poly? She would be more into the pools and fun stuff at the resort than anything. She is a bit of a princess.

she stayed there with her family before when she was 6 and wanted to go back.

She loved riding on the monrail (although the bus actually seem to be her favorite transportation ride at WDW).

her family can't afford the Polyn (I paid for that first trip using my DVC points) - I couldn't have normally - but I got one of the postcards - so I paid $185 per night.

I don't think that will happen again.

My niece thinks she is a princess :wizard: :goodvibes

I was disappointed we hardly spend any time in the rooms - I won't do that again - next time OKW or POP.

if she likes pools then I would go with the CSR. It has a really great slide.

of course if she doesn't like slides then the Pop would be my choice.

OKW has recently put in a slide. You might consider it. It is a very nice place to stay - it is a community....

I don't think you should panic. I don't think you can go wrong. All of the resorts have great theming, as far as I have seen. All of the resorts have the Disney quality aspect to them. I think she'd be very happy at any of them! All of the resorts have magic. While I've never stayed at a value resort, I understand most people are very pleased with them. All of the mods I have stayed at each had their own unique surprises, so for me, discovering what each resort has to offer is the real treat. The big plus of the deluxe resorts is their location, IMHO. The mods have really neat pools and restaurants, nice decor in the rooms, and I like the idea of a Disney food court for breakfast(I rarely touch the ones at my local malls though). It gives everyone in the group the opportunity to get their choice of quality food, and get it quickly. How many choices are there at breakfast anyhow? The deluxes have slightly bigger rooms, but as I said, the real benefit for most of them is their location - making it easier to get back to the hotel mid-day. The pool theming isn't really any better, but I suppose that depends on your tastes. Personally, I think GF is a little lacking for the price, but that's just me. AKL probably has the best theming of any resort, and the bonus of the animals, but it is a long bus ride to MK. The Swan/Dolphin can be a great deal if you are a nurse, teacher, or gov't worker (they also have great theming, even if they aren't official hotels. They don't qualify for the new airport shuttle servicebut they have three nice pools, great restaurants, and a great location) I think you should consider how much you want to pay as your first consideration, and then decide which amenities/themes appeal to both of you - if you want beach, hot tub, animals, 24-hr room service (the Disney web page has a chart) and then look at a map of the park to decide which things you'd like to be near. The Disney webpage also has a great resort tour feature now. But whatever your choice, I think you'll enjoy it!

P.S. The kids really enjoyed all of the hotels we have stayed at too! I think they feel the same way - that each resort has had fun things to discover!

I have taken my niece and nephew's and here are some of the places we stayed for my nephew's 13th bday we stayd at the polly. His choice becuase he really wanted to go to Hawaii and since his ant would not spring for it this was the next best thing. My nieces age 9 and another 12 both wanted WL great location. Another Niece (the princess ) wanted Beach Club she was 13 at the time, the youngest age 5 wanted the Swan because of the pritty bird on top.

We stayed at POFQ last summer with our 10yo DD. First time onsite. She loved POFQ! However, guess where she wants to stay THIS summer? Pop Century! I explained about a smaller room, no fridge, etc., but she doesn't care...she's enthralled with the theming at POP!

My DD is 10 yo. We've stayed at CBR, POFQ, POR, WL and Poly with her. Most recently at POR and Poly in February. She loved the Poly for a number of reasons. The pools and slide are great (she liked the themed pool a lot, but we also enjoyed the quiet pool and jumping in the deep end). She also loved the large room, the way it was decorated, and the balcony. She liked the waterfall in the lobby. We enjoyed the Kona Cafe for breakfast one morning and the Luau one night. (You can do both of those without staying there, but . . .)

If she couldn't have Poly, her next choice would be POR. She used to love POFQ, but now feels that the pool and playground there are not for big kids. I think she is right. The pool and playground at the POR are geared for the 8 and up crowd. POFQ's playground espcially is for younger children.

That being said, for our trip in July, we're going to stay at Coronado Springs. My DD wants to try out the pool slide.

I don't believe you can go wrong choosing anything at WDW. Have fun.

My dd's are 8 and 10 and by far their favorite resort is the Polynesian. They love the pool, captain cooks and the option to see fireworks from the beach if we are to tired to stay in the parks. They love being on the monorial as do I, walking to TTC for a direct route to Epcot is great. They love to hit the GCH and see the woman from Hawaii play ukelele (sp?) and do all the neat crafts. They also like the neverland club best of all the kids club which is nice for dh and I to spend an evening alone. I like the size of the rooms!

A very close 2nd choice of the girls (and mine) is Coronado Springs and if you can get a code the price can be comparable to the values. My girls absolutely love the pool here esp the slide - I think they like the pool better than the polynesian! I like the pepper market with the seat ahead policy and then serve yourself like a food court. I often travel alone with my 2 dd's and its a pain to get all the food and then hunt for a table. You can also rent bikes and its a great resort to relax and take a break from the parks.

As a PP said, don't sweat as any resort you pick in WDW will be great for a 10yo. If you can afford moderate or above you will have a pool with a slide and one full serve restaurant - I like those features myself.

check out the main board here at the dis and allearsnet.com for more details on each of the resorts.

Have fun choosing

I'm not sure if POFQ would wow a 10 year old... I think POR (bayou) is more fun. AKL is awesome... but pricey.
I bet that POP or even ASmovies, music or sports would be a hit... you can't really go wrong... you'll be in WDW! :earsboy:

I am going with my 10yr old son in June. When he was five, we stayed at POFQ - one afternoon he and my husband went over to POR. Ever since then that is where he has wanted to stay.
So in June, we are heading to POR for our 4 night vacation.

My daughter (12) likes POR for the food court, pool and boat to DTD. The Beach Club for the pool. (we were staying at Boardwalk but their pool was closed for refurb) And sometime she wants to stay at AKL because she is an animal freak! ::yes::

You are all awesome! I appreciate all the great advice and know we are going to have a great time. I think I will look at either the Poly or the CSR.

Can't wait to see her face when we get there.

We have no children so always take our niece with us. She's now 13 and she loves the GF the best. We are going again in Dec. and we're taking her and her two younger 1/2 sisters 7 & 9, and staying at GF.

I don't think you can go wrong, but if it were me, I'd pick the Contemporary. I love being able to walk to MK. For her, having the monorail go thru might be cool as well. It has great game room, reasonably priced for deluxe, good sized rooms.

Value resorts I go for POP. Moderate POR.

CBR get my vote! But then again thats the only resort we ever stayed at. My 10 DS and 8 DD love the resort and pools. Each time we went to a pool the kids meet new friends and had a ball.
