I have my appointment to get taxes done today and mine is still not here!!! Why can't they have it on-line so we can just print it out?! I just hope it comes today....
I finally called Member Services - My assumption that I would receive a 1098 for property taxes only was incorrect. You'll only receive a 1098 if you have paid interest on a mortgage. Property taxes were reported on the annual dues statement that was issued late last year.
My wife & I purchased in Oct/Nov. 2008 but loan payments didn't start until Feb. 1st 2009. However, we DID pay closing costs in our down payment. Shouldn't we get a 1098 for that? Still hasn't arrived in northeast Ohio as of yesterday's mail...

I'm certainly no expert, but I imagine you won't. The 1098 isn't for any money paid specifically for the points (ie "principal" on your loan), but just for mortgage interest. Similar to your house if you own one... you can't deduct the part of mortgage payments that go towards principal (though wouldn't that be nice!), just what goes towards interest.
Again -- I could be totally wrong, ask someone else before settling for sure... but hopefully that helps!
tink2020 - thanks for the reply. I just reread some things and I think you are right; the closing costs we had probably are NOT actually dedictible, and since we PAID no interest in 2008 we wouldn't get a 1098. Guess I'll stop watching for one...
