Have everyone bring their favorite toppings to make sundaes.

There is a homemade ice cream recipe they can make with coffee cans (they roll the cans to each other or they can gently kick the cans around outside), though I don't think I have that recipe in my file. You could probably do a google search for it.

the sacramento zoo does one each year and one year it was called "ice cream safari". they had tables set up with coloring pages and info/facts/trivia contests on different animals with an ice cream treat that somehow reflected that animal -zebras were scoops of vanilla with chocolate stripes across them, pink flamingos were scoops of rasberry sherbert and i think they had an alice in wonderland type croquet game set up (with the malletts covered up with a flamingo picture), monkeys was "chunky monkey" and barrell of monkey games, if i remeber right they even did a fish oriented table-some kind of fishing poles and you had to pick up something out of a container-the ice cream was vanilla but they had put gummy worms and fish in the cups.

one thing that makes it easier is if you prescoop small scoops and put them on wax paper and re-freeze. then they can be tossed into a freezer bag and put into cups in a flash at the time of the event.

Our church is doing this but we'll also combining it with a small carnival type atpmosphere. We're having a dunk tank, jar walk (people fill jars with small prizes and you do it like a cake walk), kid games, etc.

I'm not sure about ice cream type things, but maybe auction off pies that the parents baked?

you might also call your local cold stone or baskin robins-sometimes they will donate their kiddie size cups.

thought of another one-wart hogs! they learned how they "root" around for grubs and such-ice cream was root beer floats with gummie bugs (iiiiick-but the kids loved it).
