There is a real question with regard to who should be paying the costs of this war. It is a valid perspective, and I haven't seen a valid defense of the expense the American people are incurring, either in dollars or lives. While the objective is arguably valid, the objective (1) should have been achieved already, and (2) with far lower cost. The fact that it hasn't is the most damning condemnation of the war and its proponents.
