OK, as promised, I checked this out, and have a report.
First, how about some photos of these two cabins for the folks that don't know about them?
On the 100 loop, which is otherwise a preferred camping loop, two of the sites, 118 and 120, are occupied by cabins, which are identical to the cabins found on the cabin loops (which are the 2100-2800 loops). What would make these cabins desirable is that they are in the loop closest to the Marina and Pioneer Hall. The other cabins are quite a distance from here.
Here is what they look like:
This is a view of the cabins from the sidewalk which goes behind the 100 loop. This is how folks drive their golf carts down to the Marina. In this photo, Cabin 118 is on the left, and Cabin 120 on the right.
This is Cabin 118. The porches of these Cabins face each other, and there is a nicely landscaped area between the two Cabins. This means that Cabin #120 actually has its floor plan reversed from all of the other FW Cabins.
This is Cabin 120
This is the picnic table and grill area of Cabin 120. Note the nice stone fire place. None of the other cabins at the Fort have this, and the picnic tables are placed on their decks.
A closer look at 120's fire place.
Instead of picnic tables on the porch, these cabins have rocking chairs. Nice!
Here is the view from the grill area of #120 looking toward the Marina:
So what is the story on these cabins?
I found a knowledgeable cast member at the Reception Outpost. After discussing a few things with him, he seemed to know what he was talking about, so I asked him about the 100 loop cabins. He said that they were built to be used by Company executives and VIP's. About 50% of the time, they are booked by someone high up in the Disney Corporation, and the Fort is just told about it. However, if the cabins are not booked, and a guest arrives and asks for one, it is possible to be assigned there. They cannot be reserved ahead of time, and they don't assign them to non VIP's very often, even if asked.
The cast member said that if I ever see anyone in the cabin, I might want to take a close look. He said that a famous movie director and his family stayed there, and that to his knowledge no one ever noticed. He would not tell me who- he just said that it was someone who wears a hat. What do you think- Ron Howard? That is what I think.
So, that's the story on the cabins.
