I'm spending labor day weekend at WDW staying at POP. Got room only discount, using rapid reward credit for flight but now comes the food. Do you think it's possible for me and only me to eat vegetarian for 3 whole and 2 partial days at the world for 100 dollars?

Any tips/suggestions???

Thoughts I had... pack snacks, breakfasty foods, fruit in luggage

buy cokes/water at Hess??? can I do that without a car?

buy meals off child's menu?? can I do that without the dining police catching me? :lmao:

thanks for any tips

When I went with just DS in 06 we were able to eat on about 20 bucks a day eating breakfast in room, taking snacks and having one big meal around 3 or 4 in the afternoon. In the evenings if we were hungry we would just have a snack in the room.
we did bring snacks and breakfast food with us from home. so yes I think it can be done.

I believe so.

If you want to get to hess, hop on the DTD bus and get off at the second stop in front of west side. The hess station is right behind you on the other side of the street.

There's no dining police. I eat kids meals all the time. Sit down or counter service without any issues. Even when I was working there and getting a discount.

Must eat at Earl of Sandwich at DTD. Love the craprese wrap, and lots of other veggie options. I believe on the W.I.S.H. board there's a vegetarian topic to eating at Disney. If you've got some extra time and like to walk. Catch a bus to Studios, then hop on the DTD resort bus B, getting off at the last stop. Walk down to the end of the road, and hang a left, just past the pineapple hotel is a little plaza with Ihop in front. There's a qdoba there if you want a veggie burrito or a veggie salad. Prices are reasonable, under 10$ for one meal.

I ate kids meals when I was there in May and no one cared. I prefer those meals to the adult ones. Better portions and variety. I hate wasting food and throw away very little from a kids meal cause I can carry the bagged sides for later.

I took a bag of bagels for breakfast, just used the toaster in the food court and bought milk and cream cheese to go with it each morning. CS meals for lunch and dinner. Snacks occasionally. If you don't do any TS meals, you should be fine.

Absolutely you can. My hubbie and I ate for under 140 for 6 days. We brought home leftovers from meals we ate and other fun stuff. We talked about how much exactly we spent on our trip report website. If you are flying, could you pack some non-perishable food like granola bar and cereal?

If you like "cup a noodles" you only need hot water to pour in the cup. If your room has a coffee pot you can easily heat water!!!

If I can feed a horse & 8 dogs on less than that a week you surely can :lmao:

seriously you can with no problem. Buy some of those Crystal Light or whatever you prefer packets and get free cup of ice water at any counter service in the world

great thoughts people that's why I love this place:cutie:

Has anyone ever put bottled water into checked luggage? They have smart waters on sale for 49 cents a bottle. I don't normally drink bottled water but I thought I could save them for my trip.

any coupons out there for DTD area restaurants? Is it possible to get to Sweet tomatoes without a car? Does Hess still sell 6 dollar pizzas?

Whoa wouldn't do that can you imagine the mess you would have if it broke? Yes that pizza at Hess is usually that price...someone else mentioned Earl of Sandwich at DTD its delicious reasonable and filling

Yes, we have put bottled water in our checked luggage. I always put a few in 2 zipper type storage bags and have never had a problem. You just want to make sure they don't make you go over the weight limit for your luggage!

As PP have said, yes you can. Even without a car.

I was going to suggest taking a bus to the Boardwalk and walking to the Hess Station but that would involve a change in busses, unless you are coming from one of the parks.

Have you looked into using a grocery service? I've never done it since we always rent a car but many have reported great success doing it. And I don't believe it costs that much more than doing the shopping yourself. Besides water and sodas you can get a few more items. I just checked gardengrocer.com and they only charge $12 to deliver to WDW. Might be worth the time you'll save.

I did just do a few price checks and they charge full pop on their items-for example 12 pack of Coke, $5.89. 24 pack of Aquafina (16 oz) is $7.99. Maybe the convenience of getting it all delivered would be worth it? But just a 12 pack of soda and 24 pack of water, inc. del. would be over $26 which is over 25% of your food budget-I guess it's better if you go the Hess instead.

If you have room in your luggage you might want to pack an inexpensive toaster. We picked one up at WM for about $7 and it worked pretty well. Then I left it with my fridge swap where it worked for several years before disappearing. If you don't want to bring your own toaster, then you can use the one in the food court.

Even when we are on the DDP, we will eat most of our breakfasts in the room. It's quicker and cheaper. You can bring many breakfast food items in your luggage. Cereal is easy to pack and doesn't add much weight. Pick up some milk at Hess or in the food court and you're all set.

If you have a collapsable cooler I would bring it with you and then you can keep things cold in the room. I've even brought along our larger soft sided cooler as one of my carryones. Used it as a tote, etc. It held quite a few things.

You can definitely order kid's meals. At CS it's no problem.:goodvibes At TS it's a little trickier. We ordered kid's meals for some of our adults a few years ago at HBD and even there it wasn't an issue. However, the server did tell us that as adults, we wouldn't get the kid's soda with our meal. We didn't order the kid's meals in this case to save money, we just weren't very hungry (it was hot!) plus my 2 Dsis' didn't see anything on the regulare menu they wanted to eat.

You can get hot water in the food court. You might consider buying a refillable mug. Then you can get all the sodas, coffee, hot tea, etc. for the price of the mug. And it makes a great souvenir. They even have filtered water in the dispenser that you can get. If you have your own water bottle you could refill it at any soda dispensing machine at the parks and at POP. You can drink it straight or add a flavor tube. We go to DLR quite often and rarely buy drinks there. We usually just get free ice water from one of the CS. It's more refreshing than soda and you can't beat the price!:goodvibes

Have you looked into how much it would cost for a 4 night package with free dining during your stay. Looking online a stay from September 2 till 6th is 628.33 at the All Star Movies. That price inclue 4 Nights Hotel, 2 Days of Tickets (705.01 with 5 days of tickets), and the QS plan for the 4 nights. The two 1/2 days could use 1 day of food and then have 3 full days of food for the other days. The big question would be if you already have tickets.

I did check that out. I already had tickets which is the main reason I didn't get the package. Also I'm a very picky eater and thought the plan wouldn't be what I wanted to eat.

excellent!!! Now if I can get over the idea of having to check a bag this will be perfect!

Didn't look at grocery delivery since I won't be there long enough. Plus as you mentioned it's way expensive even before shipping.
hmmm filtered water that sounds good. I can bring those little flavor packet things for it. Hot water is good too then I could bring some instant oatmeal for breakfast. Cereal is a good option too!

WOW thanks for all the thoughts. Time to start making a plan of action :woohoo:

this may be the best vacation ever thanks so much DISers :lovestruc

totally off topic I apologize but noticed you are from Gilbert Az, I have this silly thing where I collect things with my dogs names .& we have a Gibert...ridiculous I know :lmao: would it be possible to get a postcard sent to me from there? I can PM you the info OR I can meet you at WDW and exchange it for a bottle of water ;)

When I worked at Disney, I used to keep a bottom corner locker for breakfast stuff. oatmeal packets, a box of cereal, and some snacks. No one ever messed with it, and I'd buy small bottles of milk to keep in the fridge. Since I was at work way early, it gave me time to munch on something before my shift started, or if I didn't bring any food or money, I'd always have something to eat.

Heck, even one time, I bought a pack of frozen TGIF potato skins (on sale 2 for 50 cents). I was at Wilderness Lodge for the afternoon and figured that I could just pop them in the microwave. Not so much... toaster oven only. Well they have that rolling toaster oven thing in the dining area. So I turned the rolling off, and put the potato skins in just far enough so I could pull them out with a knife. I probably looked crazy doing it. But they turned out really yummy, and I wasn't about to let them go to waste.

I'd probably be banned by the DIS dining police on this board if they knew have the things I did to save money while still eating there.

BTW, the hess pizza is still 6$, but on tuesday and friday's it's 5$. And occasionally they run a special with a free two liter soda, but it's like fanta or 7-up.

We toast bagels and things in the food court. The only thing I ever buy during breakfast was coffee. I had a small styrofoam cooler in the room.

Ditto this. Walgreens has their own version, eight or ten in a box for a dollar. Seems a HUGE waste to me to spend money on soda or water  when you're trying to keep costs down, even if you don't like the taste of plain tap water.

Well, you would have to get over the idea of checking a bag if you plan to pack water. Note that it will likely cost you between $15 and $25 to check that bag; you need to factor that into your water budget.

We Go Shop (wegoshop.com) charges a few dollars more than Garden Grocer for the actual shopping/delivery BUT they will shop at the store of YOUR choice, not theirs. If you want them to shop at Super WalMart, they will, making the cost of the actual groceries much lower than what you see on the GG site.
