....Beauty and the Beast opened on Broadway. It opened on April 18, 1994 at the Palace Theater; it has since moved to the Lunt-Fontanne. The show won one Tony award, for best costume design. The show features all the songs from the original animated feature, plus several new songs written by Alan Mencken and Sir Tim Rice. My favorite song from the show is Belle's song, "Home". There have been 13 actresses who have played the role of Belle since the show started; the current Belle is Christy Carlson Romano. Ironically, the original Belle, Susan Egan, is starring in Thoroughly Modern Millie at the Marquis a block away!

Happy Anniversary Belle!

I'm not up on Broadway, why is it ironic?

The Lunt-Fontanne, where BatB is, is on 46th Street. The Marquis is on 45th. The irony is that Susan is performing in a theater that's a block away from where Beauty is playing....Belle was the role that made her a star. Of course BatB was at the Palace when she was there.

Very neat, JM. I saw B&tB both in Toronto and here in Chicago. Great musical.
