Ouch.
This will deffo increase my food spending this year! No way she'll eat an adult meal. Half will be wasted. :headache:

I hate to be difficult about this, but really that age should be up around 12 or 13.

You could order a adult plate and split the meal with her. The portions I've found are so large that I can't eat a standard size meal, even at the counter services. Last year I ordered the seafood platter at Millies, and it was so huge, that it could have easily fed 3 people, and could barely eat less than a 1/4 of what was ordered. Something to think about.

They don't have too ~ have her order from the kids menu, now at character meals you'll have to pay the adult price which is a bummer especially when your "Disney Adult" doesn't eat much, but I figure I'll be ok with it for DS once he's 10 ~ for the past year + he's been out eating me! We just might not do them as often.

Great idea!! Thank you!!!

I will try that.
I figure what anyone doesnt eat my husband will scarf down since it cost so much anyway ! :rotfl2:

It's true that you only have to pay more for the Character meals...sometimes all the adults in our group have ordered kids meals, if feeling peckish. We also split a lot of meals. Of course, now I have 12 and 15 year-old DS's, so they eat more than an adult meal! :lmao: But I do agree wholeheartedly with your overall opinion that Disney should not count ten years-old as an adult...it is silly. I think I read somewhere once that it has to do with the average age of when they are tall enough to ride all the rides, but how that relates to meals, I have no idea.

At counter service locations I have ordered a kids meal for myself. They don't care. I agree with some of the PP's that sharing an adult meal is a good way to go. DD and I have smaller appetites so we share often. Leaves more room for dole whips and tigger tails!

I guess this is one more good reason that we should be taking our trip now. My dd will be 10 in July and we are going to DLR next month. I knew there was a reason to hurry and do the trip now when our kids are such good ages! :) Ten is really young to have to pay adult pricing!

My DD is 10 and she either orders her own kid's meal or we share a meal. It's never been an issue.

I've even ordered (this was awhile ago) a kid's meal at BB. I wanted the spaghetti but it was only available as a kid's meal. I was able to order it but I believe I had to pay for my soda.

Sometimes my DM and I will also share a meal or she may opt to get the kid's meal instead. This is more likely at CS since the kid's meals at some TS are pretty small. For example, at Plaza Inn, the kid's chicken is ONE chicken leg. We've gotten the regular chicken (1/2 chicken) and shared it between my DM, DD10, and myself. I order double potatoes and skip the green beans. Plenty of all of us to share. :goodvibes

But yes, at buffets you will pay the adult price for 10 and up. On our last trip to WDW we did for DD.

My daughter is 13 and ate from the kids menu at Cafe Orleans but we were charged a $5 'service fee' and the portion size was not any bigger!
I know it is dishonest, but if I had a 10 yr old I would just say she/he was 9 at restaurants. It isn't right that they charge a $5 fee for the same amount of food.

I've ordered kids' meals for myself lots of times...and I have no kids, myself, so the servers/cashiers knew the meal was for me :confused3

We had no trouble getting kids meals at counter service, but at full service they charged the $5.

Now that I think about it, if the counter service people actually pay attention to who orders what, I would have caused a lot of confusion on our trip! We have 3 kids, and our standard procedure is for dh to take said children and find a seat, while I procure food for the entire brood! So one woman with 2 (sometimes one and we would split) adult meals and 3 kids meals - I mus have looked real hungry!!:rotfl2:

At full service, I would just order her meal off the child's menu and not bat an eye. I doubt they would ask her age. At counter service etc, I often get children menu items for myself and from GCH I constantly order child menu items from room service as it is tons cheaper. As I previously posted my DD was 3 at the time and we were not charged for her character meals at Goofy's, Ariels and Storytellers and she looks 3 (not 2)! The bill just came with no charge for her. Someone posted that Disney CM's are told not to ask the age..don't know if that is true or not.

I recently bought my 9 year old the macaroni & cheese toddlers meal from the Taste Pilots Grill because thats all he wanted to eat. The lady at the counter told me it was small (when she saw who I was ordering for) but I said it was OK. She didnt care.

My daughter is 10 but looks much closer to 7 or 8 so when we sit down to eat and she orders off the kids meal nobody even asks...and with the price difference and the fact she hardly eats anything I never say anything!
