I'm guilty for the matinee in case I go see a musical in Holland or Germany or on the other side of Belgium, because that way, it allows me to drive there in the morning, go see the musical, and drive back in the early evening. That way, I don't have to pay for a hotel.

Cheap? Well, it depends. After paying 100+ EUR per ticket for the musical, I don't like paying 100+EUR for a hotel room!

Heck, for 6 tickets it's almost $50 just to get IN!

But we will be splurging when Pirates comes out... we're going to see it in the theater, but it will be the matinee!!

That's cheap!!!! Here, for 6 tickets, you would pay 54 EUR, which is +/- 68 USD!!!
(and that doesn't even include popcorn or a drink )

I don't go watch movies at the theater anymore (with soem exceptions), and I don't wait until they are on TV... I have High-speed internet

okay this just happen to us. the only thing that bothers me is that I know the family can afford a simple present.
the mother booked her bas miztvah at a cost that will be $30 thousand!
