My Michael's stores have something called a Smash Book kit. It is a journal with plastic pages to put pictures in. The kit comes with glue, tape, stickers, etc. could be a fun item for them to use to document their adventures. The kits are normally $19.99, but can be as low as $10 with a coupon.

I was going to suggest this, too! I didn't know if anyone would think it is a good idea. You can also just purchase the books, and I have heard many michaels have them on clearance. The books come with a pen/glue stick. The pages are decorated, it is like an "in scrapbook". It is a place to glue mementos and write small tidbits about life without the planning and costs of scrap booking. I think it would be great for exchange students.
