10-Oct-2009 - Eastern Magic St. Croix

Hi Everyone!!

Good Morning everyone!

I curious why did you all pick this cruise? I know I picked it because it fell exactly on the dates that my daughter is out for Fall break. I don't know anything about St Croix:confused3

The date kind of picked us. We wanted to go in March but the price was too high to justify. Can't really sail in the summer because of work and price. So, it fell to October - fall break for my kids.

Has anyone done any research on St Croix? I know nothing about it. :confused3 The pictures are pretty!:beach:

I read a little about it when we booked. Cruise lines haven't been visiting this island because of their "crime" issues, I believe is what it was. But they have done a lot to clean up their island seeing how the other islands are making so much money off the tourism. So, I suppose their motto has been to get their act together if they want to partake in the wealth? Reading this made me wonder why Disney would decide to start visiting there, I trust they know what they're doing. When we visited St Maarten last year, I wasn't terribly pleased and had to question why Disney visits there? :confused3 I've decided whatever we do on St. Croix, it will absolutely be a DCL excursion! Check out Cruise Critic. I think this is where I read about St. Croix.

Val-Sounds like an awesome trip. When my daughter graduates from college I want to take her on a cruise to Hawaii. I have been debating on which cruise to take. The one where the majority of the trip is cruising or the one where you spend more time on the islands.:confused3 She didn't get to go with us last year because she was in school.
I don't know of any cruise that lets you spend enough time on each island, but at least you get the idea where you'd like to go back to for a leisurely land-based vacation. I've never cruised the islands before, this will be a new experience.

I trust everyone had a great Memorial Day week-end. I was wayyyyyyyyyyyy too busy this past week-end. DW:bride:  had me working my fanny off. Paint this, fix that, look at this for me will ya, mow the lawn, rub my feet, scratch my back, jesh, she never lets up!!!:lmao: :rotfl:

Hey, I thought that was a great question someone asked,"Why we picked this time to cruise.":thumbsup2 Like JDBlair we cruised last year with DCL to St. Maatrin, ours was in October. It was a great cruise, we couldn't have asked for anything better. The weather was perfect, and being from Florida we enjoyed the low humidity. Sooooooo, we're hoping the weather will be great again this time. Plus, this time of year works out best with our jobs and DGD's school. We have never been to St. Croix so this sounded like fun. I didn't know about the crime problem St. Croix had, until JDBlair mentioned it. Like ya'll I hope they have that under control. We only took DCL excursions last time and everything worked out well for us. We will do the same this time too. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.......................I think my boss is coming, everyone look busy!!!!..........................................................................
........................................................................................................
whew...........that was close, he didn't expect a think.(He is a little slow on the up take, of course you didn't hear that from me!!!):lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:
Well better get back to work. Seeya'll

Hi all ... Hope you enjoyed your day off yesterday. I thought of you all while I was working away. We have the Monday before off for Victoria day. Other than having to work on Monday, the weekend here was great. Saw Indy on Sunday, loved it!!! Saturday, spent chauferring my DD around, and visited my mom between shifts :lmao: . It was a great day!

Take care!

I personally can't wait for the TR's to start rolling in about St Croix and see what others have to say. That will definitely give us a lot of insight on what to expect. I'm just thankful we're not the first sailing going to St Croix so we don't have to be the test pilots!! Hopefully, you checked out what Cruise Critic says about St Croix. The article was very insightful, I felt. I'm trying to keep an open mind.

I"m back from the PC cruise and DL. What can I say, it was just great, memorable, and of course going thru the Panama Canal was the highlight of the cruise. The time just flew by, even though it was 15 days. I didn't want to leave the ship. Put an add on to this Oct. St Croix cruise for an additional 4 day. We have never been to Nassau. Since we were in the neighborhood we decided to add this too. We will get off the ship and spend the night at Port Canaveral and then on the Magic again.

I'm glad you enjoyed the WB ... I'm on the EB and can't wait.... I think we are down to 79 days now. We have found out what the special nights are. My only problem is we have Palo's booked at 6:30 on the same night as the Mexican menu and I love Mexican food. Is the Mexican menu worth it to miss? I figure we should still be able to attend the party!

That's a hard one to call, where we live we can eat Mexican food, but if you enjoy Palo's how often can you eat at Palo's? I would not miss the show in the Walt Disney Theatre for that night. In our area we do not ever get to see this type of Mexican show. In fact, I would never miss a show in the Walt Disney Theatre. The best show for me and DH was When Mickey Dreams. Each person has there on opinions on this and I only heard from one couple who did not like this show. If you like cirque type shows or have never been to a cirque show, by all means go see this one.

Just heard that When Mickey Dreams will not be on the Eastbound cruise.

This makes it tough, as I have never eaten at Palos and the only Mexican restaurant within a half hour drive for me is Taco Bell :rotfl: and that doesn't count! My daughter is not joining me at Palos, and she hates Mexican food, so Palos may be the way to go, as she can eat at Topsiders.

I haven't been onboard since 2005, so I haven't seen it yet. Hopefully they won't discontinue it until I finally get to see it!

It has only been on the Mediterranean cruises, Transatlantic, 10 and 11 night southern and now the westbound PC cruise. It was a cirque du soleil show.

Then I guess I'm out of luck unless they decide to make it a regular show. Something new would be nice.

Good Morning everyone ... Hope you are all getting ready for a great weekend. Yesterday I actually turned on the AC... I hope the great weather lasts. I love the heat, but hate the humidity (then why do I go to WDW in late August/early September every year... Because I'm cheap .. thats why :lmao: . No seriously ... I love the free dining. So the PC cruise is getting closer ... I leave August 10, so 63 days to go for me!!!!! That makes it about 426 days to our cruise... That sounds so far away!!! Anyhow ... Just popping in ... Take care all!

Hey Jajomo, my DW, DGD and myself boarded the Magic last October as ya'll were getting off. We are going on a short 3 day cruise this October. We've never been on the Wonder and wanted to check it out. (To be completely honest with you we need a cruise fix to get us thru until we sail in 09!!!):lmao: But like all of us we can't wait for the nice long 7 day cruise. Even though those 7 days fly by much tooooooooooooooo fast!!!:rotfl2:

Well, I better get to work, boss is looking at me again. Talk to ya'll again soon!!!!
