Is an island view villa far superior to the standard view? Is it worth only spending 10 nights rather than 11 to upgrade the view?

It depends how much you stay in your room. For us 11 days didn't even seem like enough. This next time we're in a standard view dvc hotel room for 8 days and 6 in an ocean view studio. We've stayed in island view twice and the views are of the golf course and the island. Some of them you can get lucky and get a partial ocean view. The standard views are more of the trees the convention center etc.

For me it would be. Flying from NY I want to see a beautiful view from my balcony... At minimum I start and end my day there.
Happy planning

Take a few minutes and go through this thread of Aulani villas and views from the DVC section of these boards. You need to scroll down a bit until you get to the villa numbers and then you can click on what you are interested in seeing and it will take you to that post...

My personal opinion is that I would much rather have one more day then a slightly better view. If you were comparing standard view to ocean view then I might say it would be worth it, if that kind of thing is important. We have had standard view, island view and partial ocean and while I like to see the island, we honestly never spend enough time in our room to have it make a difference.

We just got back and had a standard view on the 5th floor, which is only 2 floors up from the lobby. My understanding is that if you can request (and receive) a standard view on a high floor, the view will be better. Our view overlooked the courtyard of the conference center. We did see them set up for weddings and other events. We don't use the balcony much so it wasn't a factor for us. If it were me, I'd do 11 nights in a standard and request a room on a high floor.

Thanks for all of the input, after seeing the posted pictures the standard view does not seem that bad, so we are going to stay 11 nights. Thanks for all of the help.

We've done ocean view and island view. We've learned that we enjoy being outside rather than a view. So this year we are doing maximum days in a standard view. More time in Hawaii? Easy choice.
