Cast: Me (40), DH (47), DD (12 1/2), and DS (11 1/2), 3rd DCL cruise
After 4 straight port days, we're at sea again. I wake up early, and join the 7:30 DIS walking group. At least, attempt to join the group, only to find that I AM the group. About 7:35 off I went at a pretty good clip. That snorkling and shopping I had done on the port days hadn't quite kept me in aerobic shape, because I got a really bad stitch in my side (no relation to the character!). I had to slow down for the last mile, but I managed to finish shortly after 8. Then it was our normal morning routine where I had breakfast with some other DISers (I know we ate with Sue/dobelover and her mom one morning, but I think it was a port day), then took food down to my lovely children. This is where vacation overload kicks in and I admit that I don't have a clue what I did all morning. I know DH and I went to Lumiere's for lunch, and I remember the afternoon, but the morning was a blur. I vaguely remember some pool time, and the Captain announcing this was our last nice day because we would be moving into the cold front that had dumped all the snow back home. We also stopped by the morning bingo, but they had already started. DH said that maybe we should play, so he stayed to watch and see if they hit the jackpot that morning.
After lunch, DH and I ran into Lynda and Cash (videogal) in one of the elevators, and here's where I morphed into evil mom! I was chatting with Lynda, and went to press Deck 9 (where the ice carving was waiting us), and I realized all the lights were on. I also realized my son was dashing out of the elevator with another boy. I asked Lynda "did those boys do that?" and she said yes (she said the boy in yellow, who was NOT my DS). Thanking her, I got off at the next floor for some serious parenting. Down the stairs to find DS and his "friend" pushing all the buttons in the next elevator. I joined them, and went into lecture mode. I told DS his freedom was gone, and told the other boy that if I knew his parents, I'd be ratting him out. I told him if I caught him again, I'd FIND out who his parents were and rat him out anyway. DS, protesting all the way, came to the ice carving station, and kept saying "but Mom, he pushed the buttons, not me." Lecture on guilt by association ensued, ice carving ended, and the three of us went to the towel animal demonstration. We all went to the family animation (joined DD there) where they were drawing incredibles characters. I left after it started to go back and begin packing things that we weren't going to need. I had done laundry 3 times that trip, including earlier this morning, so as things came out of the dryer, I packed them up. This becomes important about 11:00 tonight.
After the animation, I finally let DS go back with his other friends, with the restriction that if did anything else wrong, he wouldn't leave my side (including dinner, oh the horror!) for the rest of the cruise. Never had another problem. He headed off to the lab version of towel animal demonstration since we'd missed most of the other one.
Sometime this afternoon, I picked up a set of bingo cards for DH and I, and we went off to the theater to play our first round of bingo. We had played one time on our first cruise, but that was the only real bingo either of us had ever done. The regular games went pretty quickly, with Leslie (disneypindiva) winning a nice jackpot and doing a great job of sharing the excitement. Then it was time for jackpot. Anyone who had only one number left was asked to stand so that a bingo wouldn't get missed. There was a man near me who had a "bongo" (i.e. called bingo, but it wasn't really), and the next number after that found me with one number left to go (I'm pretty sure I needed B14). Two or three numbers later, to my right I hear a girl scream "She's got BINGO. She's got BINGO". Turns out it was WDWGoose and CruisinGoose's DD. Since she's not 18 yet, they needed the parent, and the KTTW card that was used to purchase the bingo card, so the girl with her went off at a mad dash looking for her mom (who was at a vow renewal). When Vicki (cruisin goose) made it to the theater, she had absolutely no idea that her DD had won over $8000. I think she was still in shock the next day! It was great to have a brush with glory!
When we all met back at the cabin to get ready for the evening (semi formal), DH and DS decided to see National Treasure again (they would change for dinner after the movie and meet us later), and DD and I were headed to the Dreams show. The guys had to leave before DS got his nightly room service order of potato chips and two whole milks (room service was highly enjoyed by both kids this trip!), so I took it to him on my way to the show. This let me catch the first 10 minutes of the movie that I had missed when I saw it earlier.
Disney Dreams was beautiful as always. Again, name the other roles this actor did was something DD and I played as we watched. Rich Pupura was the cabaret act. Our family had seen him on our Wonder cruise, and a lot of his family material was the same. DS and DH found us at the end. Neither kid wanted dinner with us. I admit to finally having enough of the attitude and basically saying "Just do what you want then. I'm tired of fighting about it." DD came with us (probably because she's much more sensitive to guilt than DS), and we ate at Parrot Cay again. I think that was the night the lab had a pool party followed by pizza which is what DS did.
It was 70s night, which was the one nighttime activity I really wanted to do. We let DD stay in the room, and DH and I went to Rockin Bar D. It turned out this was DIS Lady's night out, where most of the guys went to the late showing of Ladder 49, and the women came out to party. They joined us after the adult cabaret show, which was Rich Pupura again. His show was much different for the adult audience. I'm pretty sure this was the guy who was picking on John from Canada, who was the older guy we had lunch with much earlier in the cruise. Whenever he'd tell a joke, he'd look over to John and say something like "Did you get that one John?" I thought the show was hysterical. Between the show and the start of the 70s fun, they pick the volunteers for "judging a little dance contest". As Leslie now knows, that means you also get to participate in the dance contest (guys are John Travolta, Ladies are Gloria Gaynor). DH had told me he was NOT volunteering again (he'd been John Travolta on our Wonder trip, and had already covered a Tom Cruise role earlier this cruise). One of the cruise staff asked him to be Village People, but he turned it down.
The Gloria Gaynor look alikes were lots of fun. Leslie enjoyed her role, and they also had a 70 something Grandma of a very large family. She was a bit confused, but managed to have some fun with it. Her family took lots of pictures of her! The guys included a slightly older English gentleman who absolutely stole the show. I think he actually attempted the splits at one point. The Village People performed, then DH and I headed back to the cabin. The kids were back, and we got ready for bed. DH was putting together a bag for DS and his fishing trip at CC the next day. He asked me "honey, have you seen my license?" Hmmm, no, it's YOUR license. Last time I could think of was immigration, but he remembered that he had it for St. Thomas as well. I looked around for about 1/2 an hour, then told him if it didn't turn up early the next morning, I'd look through the packed items.
Lights out about 12:30 or so, and clocks went back to EST overnight.
