10/29 Now an Eastern instead of a Western

This is somewhat of a bummer.....Months of onshore planning down the drain!! Now if i can only figure out the same for Tortolla and St. Maarten in 24 hours....arg! :confused3

Hurricane Season shows why a cruise is sometimes a better alternative than a land based vacation. The weather is going to be bad on the Western. The ship has the flexibility to do an Eastern instead. If you had booked a week on Cayman, you're vacation would really be down the drain.

I have been on two Disney cruises where the itinerary has changed and both times we didn't find out until everyone was checking in at the terminal. At least you got a little bit of a warning so you can look into other excusions. For us it was a mad dash to the shore excursion desk with everyone else and decided what we wanted to do while we waited on line. It is disappointing when the trip you where planning gets changed, but you will still have a great time! We did on both.

This is exactly what the excursion desk will be on Saturday. We were not allowed to make any online reservations. At least I was able to look into port excursions online, and could pick out my hoped for favorites. If I will be able to get the one I want is another question. Hopefully the one I want is not popular with most other cruisers.

Have you tried looking to see what excursions you could book on your own? That would save that mad rush. :)

The only problem with this is that DCL hasn't (and won't) give us the times we will be in Tortola. They said they won't know until we are aboard.

Kudos to Disney for making the best out of a bad situation. I would be thrilled that they came up with such an exciting alternative on such short notice.

We had to miss Grand Cayman on our first cruise but we know we will be back some day!!

Have a GREAT cruise!:)

We were on the 10/15 Western and due to weather the itinerary changed quite a bit and we did Costa Maya instead of Grand Cayman. While I was disappointed at missing the port, I am in awe of what a good job Disney did at keeping us away from rain so we could get the most from our cruise. Our Key West day moved as well. Had we gone as planned it would have been a rainy day and instead we had sunshine. The change of itinerary is brilliant and kudos to Disney for doing their best to make it a wonderful cruise. I feel I am disappointed by the weather but not disappointed with Disney. Hope you have a great cruise with calm seas and lots of sunshine!

I was on the 10/15 Western Cruise as well and I have to say that Captain John and DCL did an amazing job at keeping us out of harms way. It was my partners first cruise ever, and everything ended up in our favor with all the changes, from our Palo's Reservations, to a full day in Key West.

For all of you on this cruise who are feeling frustrated or concerned that all of your planning is being thrown off or that you don't have the ability to plan land excursions at this moment, take a deep breathe and try not to worry about any of that.

You are fortunate. You are getting advanced notice. On the October 9th, MR cruise on the Wonder we were handed a letter as upon entering the cruise terminal informing us of an itinerary change due to Hurricane Jova. We had NO time to plan or research anything prior to getting onboard. Everything was shifted. Sea days. Port days. Itinerary. And it all worked out.

DCL took care of shifting Palo brunches, spa appointments, specific onboard reservations, (DCL booked) excursions, etc.... Port Adventures desk was a bit crazy for figuring out Ensenada, but it all worked out.

You are getting ready to go on a wonderful week on an incredible ship, with wonderful ports. It'll all work out and be wonderful. Sometimes you have to roll with it and forget the planning. Have a great, safe week!

I'm actually really bummed. We were supposed to renew our vows in Key West and hubby really wanted to see the Mayan Ruins. Not sure what we're going to do now...
My heart goes out to you. Such a special event. Don't worry too much about missing the ruins, but maybe you can contact DCL for some ideas regarding the vow renewal. Keep in mind that wherever you renew, it will still be special --- and now it will have a story behind it!

Embrace the 24 hours that you get. You could have 10 minutes notice! I am sure that whatever you plan, it will be wonderful. Those are two beautiful places, I doubt you will go wrong with whatever you do.

The only problem with this is that DCL hasn't (and won't) give us the times we will be in Tortola. They said they won't know until we are aboard.
If you are going to do a DCL excursion, it doesn't matter. You can figure it out once you get onboard and book an excursion then. It's all good. You're going on a cruise! :cool1: It's going to be okay.

Safe travels,
Dreams

Amen. DH and I trust DCL. We know they have our best interest at heart. Anyone see the weather channel when Al Roker was aboard a cruise ship (I don't remember the line)? The ship was in Cozumel before Rina hit. The wait staff was having trouble trying to serve in the dining room because of rough seas.

I would rather have an itinerary change then rough and possibly unsafe waters.

We say "Party On" !!:woohoo:

Kudos to DCL also in posting the travel advisory on their website....they is very helpful to cruisers....they don't have to find out the info just here on the Dis but from DCL directly at their website.

TRAVEL ADVISORIES

Tropical Weather Update

As you may be aware, Hurricane Rina is moving through the Western Caribbean and is currently predicted to be near Key West on Sunday. Due to the possible impact of this storm over the next few days in the Western Caribbean, we have modified the itinerary of the October 29, 2011, sailing of the Disney Magic to include ports of call a safe distance away from the storm.

The revised itinerary will be as follows:

Saturday – Port Canaveral
Sunday – Day at Sea (Formal Night)
Monday – Day at Sea (Halloween)
Tuesday – St. Maarten (Pirates IN the Caribbean)
Wednesday – Tortola
Thursday – Day at Sea (Semi-Formal Night)
Friday – Disney's Castaway Cay
Saturday – Port Canaveral
The safety and well-being of our guests and crew members is our highest priority, and we always monitor approaching weather systems closely and are prepared to alter our ship's courses and itineraries to navigate away from severe weather.

Guests currently booked on the October 29, 2011, sailing of the Disney Magic may call 1-800-939-2784 for more information.

The Disney Dream is currently sailing 3- and 4-night sailings in The Bahamas, away from the storm's projected path. Likewise, the Disney Wonder is sailing 7-night Mexican Riviera cruises from Los Angeles and is unaffected by this system.

Sorry - I was so excitied I did not know a thread had been started. My bad.
I hope this is good news for everyone. I know DCL is making the best decision for the situation. We're just happy we can stop obsessing and getting up at 3am to watch the Weather Channel.

Our thoughts and prayers are with anyone who will be in the path.

Why must they name these storms after women? I must say that Disney is doing everything they can. Even Mickey can't change the weather. Wouldn't that be great if he could? It's raining here and it's cold. Be safe and have a great cruise. Who knows you might like the western better.

Why must they name these storms after women?

LOL. I said the same thing in junior high.

I must have said it to the right person as they did change the naming system a few years later. Now they alternate between male and female names for storms in the Atlantic.
