I had a pretty emotional day.

I have a friend who is dying of pancreatic cancer. Today I went to see him in the hospital and he isn't doing well. He was on morphine for the pain and was drifting in and out. He said to me among other things, "thanks for being my friend. We had great times together." He and I have gone to Yankee games together and work together. He kept apologizing to me about being drugged up but I assured him that his comfort is more important than our conversation.

I told him that I wanted him to get his rest and that I would be leaving soon he said to me, "Chris don't leave without praying with me. You are here for me, minister to me." Being a minister I have prayed with people often in hospital settings, but to pray with a friend who has weeks or days to live was a lot to bear. During my prayer I broke down a bit as I thanked the Lord for our friendship and the place that is being prepared for my friend. It was tough. I hope this wasn't the last time I see him, but it could very well have been.

He says he wants to watch the Yankees first game of the season with me. I hope we can enjoy that, but if the Lord takes him home earlier, then at least he will not be in pain anymore.

I have felt pretty emotional all day.

I am sorry about your firend but I know having you there meant alot to him. :grouphug:

Howdy All...........

Just popping in for a quick minute or two. Can't hook up with the wireless in the area so I'm back on dial-up..........

We just had sketties (that's for you Jeff ;) ) for dinner.

It got up in the low 80's here today. I did manage to get a short afternoon nap in.

My mom and Walt are heading over this way after the finish running a few errands. It's so nice and relaxing here.

I guess that's the latest for now.

BTW--Hazel is 4' 7"

Adios........:wave2:

Liberty Tree Characters return!

Copied from Jim Hill Media:

And speaking of characters disappearing … Many Magic Kingdom fans were saddened when the Liberty Tree Tavern stopped serving its Goofy’s Liberate Your Appetite Character Dinner back on January 4th. So much so that a significant number of them actually stopped going to this WDW eatery.

Consequently, the Liberty Tree Tavern went from being a restaurant that literally did turn away business to becoming one that wound up with almost 100 empty seats every night. Which then translated into a $250,000 drop in revenues for both the months of January and February.

In the face of those sorts of losses … WDW officials had to admit that they’d made a mistake. Which is why – just last week – Magic Kingdom managers quietly okayed the return of character dining at the Liberty Tree Tavern.

Mind you, Goofy and his friends won’t be returning immediately. These managers first had to amend that theme park’s global schedule bid. In essence put in a staffing requisition for the proper number of Zoo Crew members necessary to staff a character dining venue like Liberty Tree Tavern.

Then – given that there are Cast Members who literally performed as characters at this Magic Kingdom eatery for years – WDW officials would like to give these veteran performers first crack at their old jobs and then fill any vacant positions.

Anyway … Long story short, what with all of the staffing issues and scheduling changes involved with bringing character dining back to the Liberty Tree Tavern, it may take as long as the second weekend of April (To be specific, Easter) before Goofy’s Liberate Your Appetite Character Dinner is up and running again.

And just so you know, this news has not been officially announced yet. So if you call (407) WDW-DINE today and then tell them you're looking to make reservations for character dining at the Liberty Tree Tavern, that call center rep is not going to know what the heck you're talking about. But trust me, folks. These WDW Cast Members will be brought up to speed shortly. So if you're looking to Liberate Your Appetite anytime soon, you'd best make some reservations ASAP.

Anywho ... Given that all Disneyana fans seem to do online these days is complain about high costs and/or cutbacks at the Parks, I just thought it might be nice to share some news about something that had once been cut but is now on its way back.

Christian, sorry to hear about your friend's situation.

Ok so I have to share a story, sorry but it is long winded but so cute. Mackenzie has been coming home from school the past week with bad colors (colors is a way of showing the parents how the child did in school. Good is green, yellow is 1 warning, red is 2-4 warnings and blue is call home) Well she has gotten 1 yellow and 4 reds. Really unsual for her. So I called the teacher yesterday to find out what is going on. The teacher informed me that it is nothing major that Mackenzie is just chatting alot. (nothing new there, takes after her mother). She said the whole class has been getting bad colors, it is the 2 weeks before spring break and the kids go nuts. Most of them are talking about where they are going on Spring break. So she proceeded to tell me some stories that my child is saying.

Someone in class said "I am going to Disneyland for Spring break"
Mackenzie said "I have been to Disneyland"
Kid says "I am going to California adventure also"
Mac says "I have been there also, my grandma and grandpa came to spend a few days with me at Disneyland."
Kid says "my grandma and grandpa are dead."
Mac "My grandma died, but is now alive":scared1:
End of that conversation

Another kids says "I am going to Disney world for vacation"
Mac says "I have not been there"
Kids says "It is better then Disneyland"
Mac says with an attitude "Well I am better then you I have been on a Disney cruise"
Kids says "What they have a floating Disneyland"
Mac says "No there are no rides, but it is better because you get more time with the characters, you get to eat all the yummy food you want, you get to go down the spiral slide into the pool, I am allergic to it, and you get to have sleep overs with the Princesses."
Another kid says "No way you have been on a floating Disney"
Mac says "Yes I have my parents love me enough that they took me for my 5th birthday, right after my grandma died and then relived"
Kids says "So if your parents love you so much to take you on a Disney cruise for your 5th birthday what did they do for your last birthday?"
Mac "Um they had a party at the park for me"
Kids says "Oh they really love you now, huh.":sad2:
End of that conversation

Another kids says "I am going to Sea World for my trip"
Mac says "I have been to Sea World"
Kids says "Have you been since the roller coaster opened"
Mac says "no I was there when it was being built" (ok just for some insight we went in May of 2003 and she was born in Oct. 2002. How she remembers this is beyond me. We never talk about that trip)
Kid says "I am going to feed the dolphins while I am there, did you feed teh dolphins?"
Mac says "no"
Another kid says "I love the Shamu show I like getting all wet."
Mac says "I don't like the Shamu show because it is an injustic to animals. You should not keep an animal in captivity just so you can use it for circus acts. The whale needs to be released into in natural home, and only be held in capitivity if it is wounded.":headache:

No wonder my child is getting reds.

She sounds delightful!!!:cutie:

And, don't worry, my littlest angel went through 2 years of "bad colors". Her most memorable was pouring milk on her "breakfast strudel" snack in Kindergarten. I asked her why she did it. She said "It was yucky" and "I felt like it." Now, who can argue with that logic?:cutie:

My grandmother had pancreatic cancer--so painful. Much love and prayers for your friend. I'm sure you made his day by visiting and praying with him.

I read this today, too. I hope this is not a rumor. We are going to LTT in June. If it turns out to be true, I think I will let my kids be surprised. It's Emily's fave.

My Sympathies, Chris. If I were to pick a part of my job that I dislike the most it is the fact that I work with Greif and Death all the time. It becomes necessary to insulate oneself from that emotion in order to do the job. But it is good to be reminded on occasion that there are real lives on and around the gurney. Thanks for sharing your story.

Just a reminder from the land of consumers, even though a job doesn't directly produce revenue, the loss of it may severely impact revenue. I was one of those who chose to eat elsewhere.

A photographer. I love taking pictures and I think this would be very fun!

Oh! I hadn't thought of that one. That would be fun.

Thanks everyone. :grouphug: I had Men's Fellowship group at the church tonight and feel much better. We watched a James Bond movie so hanging out with the guys watching a guy flick was good therapy.

I have done numerous funerals, that included suicides, toddler deaths, criminal mischief deaths, and have always been totally professional. I often thought if I didn't work for The Salvation Army, I could be a funeral director because of my ability to stay cool under pressure and in dealing with people who are going through crisis. It was just so hard today for some reason. I have never had a friend go through something like this since my grandfather died when I was a kid. Being a kid, I was sheltered purposely from seeing too much suffering. It was just hard hearing my friend speak about our friendship in the past tense. It was hard praying for him, thanking the Lord for our friendship, and the assurance that Christ is preparing a place for him now to present to him when they meet face to face. That's when the tears flowed. I kept cool and my voice didn't crack, but there were tears.

I just had no idea she was so opinionated. She is not like that at home. I guess there is a whole different side of her at school.

I agree you can not argue with that logic. Mackenzie tells me that alot also "I felt like it."

Chris, I am so sorry for the pain you are feeling, but I am so thankful you understand the future for your friend and how important it is that he has that future. The loss we feel is painful, but as you said, he has nothing but celebrating coming! What a joyous shout will be proclaimed when he arrives.

Evening all,

another day another dollar..

I can't wait till this week is done.. I am so stupidly busy at work :headache:

I need a beach... soft sand.. gentle waves...salty breeze.......:thumbsup2

Joanne, I believe things happen for reasons and maybe this will be a positive in the end.:thumbsup2 Enjoy that sand!

Andy, enjoy!

AFEG, good to see you back. Although, you pretty much said you had to settle for what you could get when talking about a hug from me!:sad1: :sad1: I am heartbroken!:rotfl:
