Just a question getting to know each other...

What does everyone do for work?

I am a nurse and I work in a hospital. I do 12 hour shifts, 3 times per week, and I have to work every other weekend. I love my job, but it can be very hectic and crazy at times.

What do you do?:thumbsup2

I work at a college in the Admission's department. We have three large buildings and around 1600 students. I commute over 800 miles a week to work which makes for a 15-16 hour day including the commute.. I love my job but only get about 6 hours sleep a night. Can't wait for this vacation to begin!!!!:yay:

I work in accounting for a small oil company/chain of Convience Stores and have been with the company for 10+ years. I guess I have it pretty good cause my job is only about 5 miles from my house. I work 35 hours a week and work Monday thru Friday. I also do alot of other tasks at work and I love my job. I too cannot wait for this vacation because before this a vacation was a 3 day weekend from work :rotfl2:

Ahem...I work to cruise. Well, that is wishful thinking.

I work for a large corporation in their appliance service division; supporting 38 Northern California repair technicians (East/West Bay). My title has changed a few times, however most people understand when I say...I’m a dispatcher. I consider myself an ‘exceptions handler’ and most days feel like a ‘Director of Adult Day Care’. My second job is an A/V tech for a large downtown church. And...~30 times a year I work as a craps dealer for a company that hosts casinos nights.

We are sooooo ready for a vacation. The largest stress I want on this trip - will be in search of paper umbrellas and the beverages that shade them. And...holding down a lounge chair; near the adult pool, deck 4, secret decks of deck 7 & 8, Serenity Bay...and so on.

Im a patrol sergeant with the police department and the department's webmaster. I work nights, 12 hours shifts. DW is an office manager for a church / school with normal person hours..

We are desperate for this vacation!!!

Does anybody know if the ships going to be all decorated for Halloween? We're going to miss it by one day:confused3

Good question! I know there is the pirate night pirate:, but it would be great if there was something, like a special party and dress up with costumes for Halloween. Does anyone know?.... anyone?.... :confused3

I'm a nurse too. Hooray for nurses! :cheer2: I used to work in the Cardiac ICU at CHOP doing 12 hour shifts. It was so rewarding, but, as you probably know, incredibly stressful and hard on our family. I would go for 3-4 days without seeing my kids. So I left and now I do pediatric home care. I absolutely love it. Right now I'm taking the summer off to be with the kids.

What kind of floor do you work on?

I work for the County where I live. I'm the County's Solid Waste and Recycling Manager. I started out 19 years ago as the Enforcement Officer for our office and worked my way up to become the current office head. I got the training for my original position from 5 years in the USCG. I'm also a Certified Recycling Professional in the state of PA. I help my municipalities submit their recycling numbers to the state and apply for grants to further their recycling programs. I also manage the state's largest organics recycling facility at the same time. In addition to that, we run other programs for our residents including household hazardous waste collection events, and electronics recycling programs. I've also never been able to forget the last line in my job description "And Various Other Tasks as Assigned". I also do some instructing for the PADEP and our professional organization PROP (Professional Recyclers of PA).:teacher: I couldn't do half of what I do without a great staff:dance3: and it's only because of them that I can leave for ten great days for our cruise!!!:beach:

My DW is the Assistant to the President for a large ministry based multi-facility nursing home and assisted living organization. She's constantly working, even from home. She cares greatly about the residents, staff, boards, and the administration she serves. We both REALLY need this cruise! We will be touching down at MCO in 78 days where we'll be transported via the ME to Kidani Village. We’ll spend a day at EPCOT at the F&W Fest and a day checking out the other resorts. WE CAN"T WAIT!!!princess:pirate:

Me!!!!! I'm so excited, I've already gone through our vacation bucket, twice! I've also gone through our packing list, made a vacation notebook and planned my wardrobe!!!:banana::banana::banana:

My DW already has her suitcase laid out in the spare bedroom. She's started packing her outfits for the cruise...:confused3

Another RN here. I spent 13 years in Labor and Delivery. The past 3 years I starting working for University of Texas doing maternal fetal medicine research. I really enjoy the lifestyle change. I work Monday-Thursday. This job allows me to be home in the evening for the kids activities. NO MORE WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS. That is worth the paycut.
My husband is a helicopter pilot for the US coast guard. He works all the time. We've been stationed in Houston for 3 years now.

Great to know there will be some active USCG as well as some of us Vets on board. If the crew gets into trouble, at least we'll already be there! Semper Paratus!!!:cool2:

I work in medical billing.....whenever I have a stress filled day I think hey this job gives me the $$$$ I need to go on vacation :cool1:

I can't wait for this cruise. The last one was in 2002 and we loved it! This time it will be me, husband, daughter and son. My brother(best friend) and sister-in-law (best friend) and My Mom and Dad. We are planning on driving from Arkansas to Orlando all together in my Dad's RV.:dance3:

I love hearing all the responses..

To me it is so interesting to find out how much people really have in common, even when we all live in so many different places. There are many different and interesting jobs out there and we get and idea of what people deal with every day.

MrsMunchie...I work on a Med/Surg floor, glad to hear we have more nurses:thumbsup2

My Dh is a manager at a storage facility. We work opposite days so my dd's only have to go to daycare now preschool/daycare twice per week. We don't have many days together as a family and me and my dh don't have any time as just the 2 of us. So that is why we are looking forward to this cruise to have time together as a couple and family time. Thats what I love about DCL is you can do both....:lovestruc

I work for the county (Geauga Co. of Ohio) driving a transit bus. I drive Seniors to the Co. Seniors Centers. I take people to their doctors appointment or to the store if they are unable to take themselves. Many of our clients are of the Amish Faith so they don't drive a need a way to work. Our main purpose is transporting the physically disabled (people in wheel chairs)
I enjoy my job very much even though some days can be very hectic, especially in the winter. The winters here are not fun here, thats why I love summer so much. The best part of the job is since I work for the county the benifits are great. I work Mon-Fri 7:30 to 4:00, no nights or weekend and I get all the holidays off (like the banks). Unfortunately I'll never get rich working here. I live pay day to pay day. Up to last year I was working part time at K-mart, after 15 yrs. I had enough. The extra income was nice but I had no life.

My DW already has her suitcase laid out in the spare bedroom. She's started packing her outfits for the cruise...:confused3

And I thought I was the only person who had matched her outfits up, picked shoes to go with them and put everything in her suitcases already:rotfl: My co-workers tease me endlessly about this:cutie:

My husband knows me already though, he actually wondered why it took me this long to pack!:rotfl2:

Thank goodness for suitcases with wheels:)

I'm an accountant for a mortgage holding/servicing company working on my Master's before sitting for the CPA exam. Hopefully, this bean counter can earn more beans to buy more DVC points!:rotfl:

DH is former Navy working as a Coast Guard communications sub-contractor. He will complete his Master's just a few weeks before we sail, so this trip will definitely be a celebration! Time for some much needed quality family time!:grouphug:

After numerous trips to WDW DH was just content, but after just one cruise on the Magic, he is a certified Disney SNOB!!:lmao: Due to his long commute, he is hooked on the Disboard podcasts. We often compare notes and discuss trip plans more than we talk about any other topic. ;)

Our son was born in Hawaii while DH was stationed at Pearl Harbor. So we are seriously considering buying in on Aulani to give DS a piece of his motherland as soon as we finish paying all of this darn tuition. Heard rumors that DCL has requested permission to visit Hawaii. Please, oh, please...:worship:

Only 81 more days!!:cool1::cool1:

Here's a few more questions for everyone...

Are you planning on rebooking while on board? If so, when? And do you have any tips to maximize OBCs?

This cruise is still more than 2 months away and I'm already thinking about the next one. Just trying to work my way up to Gold. :thumbsup2

I'm so glad to hear I'm in good company. My husband is always teasing me about being packed weeks in advance. Now I can tell him I'm not the only one! Thank you! :cool1:

I am looking to see what people say about this. Also can someone explain dummy dates? Is there a risk to this? Can you lose money if you change dates?

My DH is working on his master's degree as well. He won't be finished until next summer though. I hope DCL goes to HI too! DH can retire in 2012 and DD turns 10 that year all in July. We are hoping to visit the DVC there, friends stationed there and were looking at a one week cruise (NCL). Would be great though if DCL were there.
