10/23/11 - Disney Dream

No cruise docs yet. :sad1:

Dress code question for experienced cruisers. Without causing any animosity or controversy, how dressed up is dressed up? We're New Yorkers so we tend to dress "properly" for dinner. That means a dressy sundress or work-appropriate dress for me with nicer shoes. Do people get more dressed up than that on the cruise? Do I need to bring a "gown"? While we do like to dress up some, I wasn't really planning to bring a gown but now I'm wondering if I should. I wouldn't need to shop for anything as I have a few dressier items in my closet (we attend 1-2 black tie events every year). Opinions?

Thanks!
Amanda
I'm a firm believer in wear what makes you and your family happy, to some DISers this can be a very heated subject. I don't understand why people get their feathers ruffled over what someone wears to dinner :confused3.
With that said, We have only done 7 night cruises which have formal and semi formal nights. We saw everything from gowns and tuxes to sundresses, polo shirts and dressy shorts. We enjoy dressing for dinner and want some nice pictures so DDIL and I are planning to bring dresses (above the knee length), DH and DS will wear dress shirts and ties but no jackets for dress up night. DGS is wearing black pants and a white polo shirt. From what I've read on the boards shorter cruises tend to be a little more casual.

Thank you for the responses! I honestly don't care what anyone else wears - not my business - but wanted to get an idea of the "norm." We are having dinner in Palo one night but it sounds like a nice dress is plenty and it doesn't have to be a gown.
I enjoy getting a little dressed up for dinner but would really prefer to avoid the hassle of bringing a more formal dress (with the shoes and all - ugh!). It sounds like that's really not necessary! And the black-tie benefit for my husband's hospital is the day after we return from the cruise so I have to get all dolled up for that anyway. Even at Disney we tend to dress nicely for dinner (sundresses for girls, polo shirts and khaki shorts for boys) and it sounds like that'll be perfectly appropriate. We won't have our kids with us so we'll probably be a bit more dressed.
We went on a Celebrity cruise about 13 years ago (at least?) and for "formal" night some people even rented tuxedos! I think my DH wore a suit and I wore a little black dress - not quite a gown but pretty close.
I guess I'll have Tom bring a jacket/tie for Palo night and I'll bring a wedding-appropriate dress that isn't a huge gown and then we'll do polo shirts/sundresses the rest of the time.
And thanks for the cardigan reminder because I am always, always cold! I carry a sweatshirt around Disney with me in August because I freeze whenever we go indoors!!!

I just wanted to say good luck -- there are a few of us running half marathons this weekend and I'm sinding pixie dust for great times, great weather and lots of new PRs :cheer2:

Yes, Good Luck to everyone! I am attempting my 1st 1/2 tomorrow and am excited. Problem is there are fires in MN and that are blowing in here causing dangerous air quality. They now have oxygen at each water station. Well, no one can say it won't be interesting.

Best wishes!

And in line with everyone else, no cruise doc's yet. But we did get our ME information for the POP before hand stay.

WhoooooHooooo :yay::banana::yay:

Received our cruise documents and luggage tags in the mail today.

Now feel the countdown has really begun.

Still no docs here :( We just changed our cabins so I'm sure the luggage tags will have the wrong stateroom #s.:scared1: Has anyone had experience with this?

We have our cruise docs but no ME yet. We are staying after the cruise but you'd think we'd at least get a booklet even though we don't need luggage tags :confused3.

Don't worry! If your Cabin # has been changed from the one on your tags, the porters at the terminal will have the correct one and change it for you.

We had that happen on a previous cruise and the porter changed the number for us right at the curb when he took our luggage. You could just scratch it out yourself but they will know where you're supposed to be and rest assured your luggage will get to you in the new Cabin.

Have a wonderful cruise.

Our luggage tags had our new cabin number on it which surprised me since we just changed.
I ordered my FE gifts last night!
It's starting to feel REAL!

Your luggage tags should have been in your cruise docs. Are you using Disney Transfers?

My Docs arrived yesterday. 29 days to go until I lock up the house and take the drive to Sacramento!

Nope we are using a rental car to get back to Orlando. Only taking ME on November 1st when we fly home.

Got Disney mail yesterday but it was for our 5 night stay prior to sailing. No cruise docs yet though. Guess I will be camping out around the mailbox.:rotfl:

Whew thanks that's makes me feel better. It would NOT be good having no extra clothes for the entire cruise...and the worse thing no makeup! :scared1:

Hoping tomorrow I can do the Indiana doc dance too! :dance3:
Kathy (who HATES those dancing bananas)

We are staying at the Pop before the cruise and those documents, with the ME tags came on Wed (Oct 19th stay), our cruise docs came on Saturday but we have not gotten our docs for the POFQ for the night after the cruise stay so I would assume they will come by mid week so hang in there. :goodvibes
