I say "starter" cruise because next time we all want to go for seven days!

Cast: Me age 40 (but doesn't look a day over 39)
DH age 42
DS age 11
DS age 8

Thursday morning we set off after 5 humid and crowded days at WDW and BWV. We're only here over Columbus Day so kids miss just 4 days of school (they wind up only missing 3 however because of a teachers strike). After a stop at Goodings for a couple items (like a 12-pack of Miller Lite), we are off to Cape Canaveral.

We arrive about 12:00 and people are already boarding the ship. Line is not too long - I have to let a few parties get in front of us because DH hasn't returned from parking the car.

I knew that they announced each family as you board, but no one else did. It was a big hit!

We then realize we have no idea where we are going or want to go. We decide on heading for the buffet. Food is pretty good (this was about the best lunch buffet on the ship) but the shrimp are warm. 8 YO wants pizza instead so we hook him up with that. Afterwards, on with the swim trunks. DH is jumping out of his skin nervous (he thinks he won't like the boat motion or not seeing land once we set sail), so I leave him with the kids and go to make Palo reservations. Unfortunately, we want to do Palo Friday night and that our Animator's Palate night, which we also wanted to do. DH doesn't want to wear a jacket twice. Crew members convince me it's OK not to on the first night - so I guess we're skipping AP (for this cruise at least).

I then take the kids to the Lab to sign them up. They want to stay but I promise them they can come back later. I check our stateroom - luggage is there but no beer yet. DH will have a fit.

Back up to the boat drill. Younger DS needs a bigger life vest - we are told no problem, they will get us one. Drill is over in no time and then it's up to the sail away party. And guess what - when the boat moves not one of us feels sick! Horray!

Time to dress for dinner at Triton. DS's not happy about wearing pants instead of shorts - I tell them it's just for dinner and afterwards they can put on the shorts and go to the Lab. Kerry and Jacquie from Jamaica are our waitstaff. Kind of neat because the only other time we've been to the islands (Before Kids, or BK) was to Jamaica. I order the shrimp appetizer, the potato soup, and the tenderloin. DH gets gutsy (even with the ship moving!) and tries the escargot, field greens, and the tenderloin. Kerry also brings fried camembert in case he doesn't like the escargots. Everything is good - guess I'm glad we didn't skip Triton's anyway.

Kids go back to the lab - oh wow, some adult time! DH's beloved Yankees are playing so we head up to the ESPN Skybox. He is finally relaxed, not seasick, and the beer was delived to our room courtesy of Arturo, our wonderful stateroom host. We watch the game for awhile, then head to the Dueling Pianos. It is not very crowded - most people are either at the show, still eating, or watching baseball. Eventually more people come in and it's a good time. We realize we are too tired to do the 80's party, so we collect the kids and get them to bed. Finally, time to enjoy our verandah. We are in 8552, a Category 4. I was afraid 11 YO would be two big for the pull-down bed but he is fine with it. It is so neat to watch the wake of the ship and see the other cruiseliners heading out to the Bahamas with us!

Sorry this is so long - Day 2 coming up soon!
