Tracy: I hope you're feeling better soon. I'm so jealous....I would love to be able to have that surgery and ditch the glasses, but my eye doc (not who you think) says my severe astigmatism makes me a very bad candidate. It must be so nice actually see the alarm clock when you're in bed!

Jeanne,
we have an alarm clock which projects the time onto walls or the ceiling. Perhaps such a device would be of help for you. It was very inexpensive, about €20. If I remember it correctly the Discovery Channel shops or Sharper Image sell them too.

Yippie !! We are finally at double digits for the Panama Cruise ...

Congratulations Kim and Bette along with everyone else cruising soon.  Hope that you have smooth seas and a wonderful time. Mike and Kathy

Great, Glad to hear you are doing better... I would love to have that done and get rid of the glasses, however I am a chicken when it comes to my eyes. How long before you are 100 % ???

Bye, Kim

I am chicken too, although I have been thinking of having this done. Maybe it's time I looked into it more.....

Reneé

I really want to get it done also but if I still have to wear reading glasses it seems that it almost defeats the purpose...most of all I am scared to have eye surgery....

Arlene

I am the world's biggest chicken when it comes to procedures (I nearly passed out looking at a comic book showing sinus surgery procedure). I also used to work for a medical malpractice lawyer so I've seen alot of bad results with procedures. LASIK is very safe and quick. I had a pretty bad prescription (-6 and -5.5) and it took 47 seconds for one and 42 seconds for the other. Plus 3 minutes drying time each eye. It took longer for the valium to kick in before the surgery than the surgery itself. I even got a teddy bear to squeeze so he got the brunt of my fear!

Today things are a little hazy, but all in all it is so much better. My eyes are a little scratchy, but I have allergies and this isn't even as bad as when the allergies kick up. I think they said within a couple months most problems will be gone. The place that I went said 96% of their patients will achieve 20/40 or better after initial surgery and any enhancement procedures. The other 4% may still require glasses.

So far I'm very happy with the procedure. The second eye was more difficult for me because I knew what to expect and thought about it too much. But neither was difficult. I'm going out to try my eyes driving to the grocery store now!!

Arlene--
My doctor also has a procedure that helps with reading glasses. Of course, you have to decide you want two procedures. I'm not so sure I'm ready to consider that, yet. The only time I notice the book getting fuzzy is when I'm reading in bed, and my getting tired might be a huge contributor to that.

Tracy--I'm so glad it has worked out for you so far. And it will just keep getting better & better. Everything you mentioned is exactly what I went thru 2 years ago. My 2nd eye was harder, not because I was thinking too much, but because of the valium. The 1st eye, I was relaxed, but awake. By the time he was ready to do the 2nd eye, I was asleep. :faint:

Eric, I think you need to change your screen name to "Inspector Gadget"........

It's been one of

Jeanne,
you should see 'my' room: There are so many gadgets in it, that the electro-smog alone is sufficient to heat the room :teeth:
Same with my car: It has rain-sensing wipers, switches the lights on and off automatically, has GPS, a remote-controlled extra heater, etc.
In the living room our TV is hooked up to a VCR, a DVD, a Dreamcast, a Nintendo Gamecube, and of course a Dolby Surround System. Then there are some Gameboys - And the new Playstation Portable is also already ordered.
When we flew to Hamburg this weekend we had Hightech for about € 4000 in our carry-on: A Notebook, a PDA, Anja's iPod, my iPod, a Digicam, our cellphones.
Somebody has to keep our economy running :earboy2:

As the List-business has been very slow recently, I thought about issuing a newsletter. I could put articles in it about our homestates, hometowns, hobbies, planned activities for the cruise, etc.
Would anyone like to submit something for it?
Riddles would also be great, funny pictures (I think I got one very funny picture, Cathy :rotfl2: ) would be a possibilty, too. Trip reports, too.

Just let me know what you think of it - or simply submit your stuff

LOVE the idea of a news letter!

My sister Laurie just got back from a Western cruise on NCL, and had a wonderful time. She went with a group of people from work, and sailed out of Miami. She called me as soon as she was back home in Oregon to tell me she now understands why Ave and I are hooked on cruising :teeth:

Mary,
they are more expensive over here: The 20G is €329 ($428), the 40G is €429 ($558). Anja paid $299 for her 20G in Panama City, and I paid $349 for my 40G at amazon.com after a mail-in rebate. And teh Photo-iPods are equally more expensive over here. I may have to bring an iPod or two for soem friends when we go to Boston this year. The Dollar is so weak right now, that shopping in the USA is extremely cheap for us :teeth:
