i actually like "what not to wear". if andy got chosen the two hosts would have a heart attack when they saw his closet. he has a least 21 of the same shirt in a variety of about 4 colors. they would look at him and just probably laugh. plus he has 1 pair of sneakers and 1 dress shoe(barely worn of course). they probably would be so stunned that they wouldnt know where to start. and trying to change his style - good luck....

hi to everyone. congratulations sarah!

jeanne i will try to email or pm my reservation # on monday. need to find my disney info..

arlene

I like "What not to wear" too although I think I'd be terrified to actually go on the show.

Kim - saw an advertisement last night for a new TLC show called, I think, "in a fix". It's for people who are renovating and can't finish and they come in and finish the job. At least I think that's the premise. Thought of you first thing.

It's totally freezing here today. I think the temperature is around
-24C with the windchill and it certainly feels it. Everyone in the office is freezing.

So what's the temp in Florida Peter??

Have a great day everyone.

Fiona

Right now we have about 2-3inches and it's still coming down. That's a BLIZZARD for us since we rarely get snow at all! (I can just picture all you northerners laughing at that) Unfortunately it didn't start coming down until about 8a.m. so the kids didn't luck out and get a snow day. We were kinda hoping it would have started late last night so my son wouldn't have to get up at 4:30 a.m for swim practice, but that was not to be. Only 3 more weeks and his season will be over. I'm getting way too old for these early mornings......

Wow, Eric, those are high taxes. Our sales tax is 7% in Wake County and we complain about that. The best was when I used to live in New Jersey.....they never charged sales tax on any clothing item. Our shopping malls were always flooded with all the New Yawkers trying to save a buck!

jeanneg...we also have no sales tax on clothes or shoes so we get alot of NY'er's coming over to shop--however, I know that there are times when NY has a tax amnesty and they don't pay tax on clothes but I don't know how often that happens. Our sales tax is 6% on everything else (not on food only junk food, restaurant tabs, dog food, etc.)

Peter here is your schedule for when you return from vacation--I forgot where you said you were going:

Start in New Hampshire to re-side Bette and Kim's house; take NY thruway and detour to Arlene and Andy's house to finish their basement (and Andy will sing to you); head over to Pennsylvania to put insulation in my attic and while you are here, you can repair all of my termite damage in my garage; then we can call GoofyNut to see if she needs any jobs completed; if she doesn't need anything done you can either head south to padisneynut's house or head east to piglett's house in New Jersey....the possibilities are endless..if anyone else needs anything done and your south of PA, just let Peter know. If you're lucky, you may get back to Boston by May but if not, oh well!!

jeanneg...no snow up here and please leave in stay in North Carolina but this morning our temperature was 6 degrees and tomorrow, it is supposed to be even colder. Snow would just add insult to injury for us!!

Did Peter mention that he loves to strip??

Jeanneg -- Glad I live down here in the "south", not up north where you are having snow. In Charlotte, we got a little bit of kind of freezing rain this morning, but nothing stuck to the ground. It is cold, tho, especially after the weather last week. I don't know how we ever managed to live in cold, windy Chicago for so many years. It gets too cold for me in NC, now.

Jean

JeanneG,
we plan to arrive at the Raddisson between 6 and 8pm. We'll probably drive from Panama City Beach to Orlando that day, do some shopping in Orlando, drop off our car at Hertz and then take a limo to the Radisson.
If you stay at the same hotel as Kim & Bette you may want to share a van or a limo. We did this last year with Peter & Jen and two more couples. We had a lot of fun on the way to Port and also saved some bucks.

I might snow in Charleston tonight! When I say "snow" I mean "Charleston Snow" (that means..."look, it's snowing!...Where?...right there....see?....UM, no...OH OK I saw a flake...gee I guess it IS snowing!)

DH George is available for home repairs in the southeast! I will send him packing to re-do bathrooms, kitchens, painting, hardwood flooring, ect. So whatever Peter can't get to..George will do!

We always plan on getting to the Radisson around 4pm but the last 2 years we were SO excited we were on the road by5am and arrived about 12 noon! The Welcome DIS'ers party starts at about 6pm and lasts until the last person leaves the pool area.We had a GREAT time last year, and plan on doing the same this year! Goofynut...how about doing your MAGIC again this year with the GREAT Rates you got for us last year??? I plan on making my reservation as soon as I get my tax refund, and pre-paying my reservation.

I LOVE "Clean Sweep"! The tips Peter gives are great! I also LOVE "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy"! Arlene...maybe you should get DH on that show!!!:hyper: Carson is SO FUNNY!

We have a "tax free" weekend every year just before school opens. It's very nice to be able to get the kids school clothes, and supplies tax free.I also do my "cruise shoppping" that weekend:teeth:

Mary,
was that your driving time from PCB or from Charleston?
I already started planning our trip using Randmcnally.com and would like to compare their driving times to yours.

Eric, driving time Chasleston to Port Canaveral apx. 7 hours. We have never driven PCB to Port, but it's about 6-7 hours from PCB to WDW. Maybe Ave can help with this one!

Eric, Mary is right. 6-7 hours from PCB to Orlando. And you "lose" an hour because you go from central time to eastern time.

To all you northern folks, it's COLD in FL tonight. 38 F! Berrrrr!
But still no snow!:bounce: :sunny:

Later, Ave'

Busy day:

1) Taxes: we pay provincial tax and something called Goods and Services tax (similar to UK's VAT). One is 7% the other 8%. Total of 15%. Basically on everything. There are other taxes on food and entertainment. Twelve bottles of beer are something in the range of $23. I don't drink a lot of beer.

2) Right now it's -39 degrees C. It's like so cold, when you inhale through your nose, your nose hairs freeze together.

3) The really big news is that today someone set fire to the German Consulate in mid-town. It was a three-alarm fire, 24 fire trucks altogether. News flashes on the radio said that the firemen were patiently sitting in their fire trucks watching the building burn, waiting to get permission to enter on the property to fight the fire because it's a consulate, and technically German territory. When they did get permission, the guy that set the fire (smoked to the eyeballs) jammed up the property gate and the firemen had to break down the gate, subdue this guy and then fight the fire. The guy must have been cold.

4) Fiona had to have emergency root canal today. I got to drive and wait while the dentist did whatever. It must have been bothering her quite a bit because she didn't even choke when they told her how much it was.

5) I missed my nap today. I'll have to double nap tomorrow to make up for it.

:D

Jim.

What was his reason for that arson:confused:

Pixie Dust to Fiona *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Thanks for the info, Mary & Ave :wave2:

Hello everyone. Sorry that we haven't posted more in the last week or so. We have been busier than a one armed paper hanger.:hyper:

My dad has Alzheimer's and my brother's evil step mother left him the day after Christmas. We have been busy getting him settled in with my brother and getting all of his affairs in order.:headache:

We need to cruise now::yes::

Sorry about your job Kim. Also to anyone else who has lost their employment you are in our prayers. Get well soon Fiona and anyone else that is under the weather.

I fixed supper tonight (dinner to you Yankee's). Fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy along with black eyed peas with a smoked ham hock in them. Cornbread muffins and angel food cake for dessert.

Mike

No frozen nose hair here in Fl. I Hope Fiona is feeling better.

:)
Going to work tomorrow at my "other" job. Really looking forward to it since I haven't been there since before Christmas. and I miss the patients.

anyone seen peter lately?

papa, sorry about your dad. He's lucky to have people like you around to take care of things.

Ave

The Panthers (our NC football team) and Rams are playing in overtime so I decided to get on the computer -- I'd rather find out what happened after it's over. Not a football fan, but it is the home team. Of course, after being a Cubs fan for many, many years I am used to being disappointed.

Papa -- My mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's about a year ago. Very sad and frustrating to see a vital person reduced to confusion and loss of memory. She is in a lovely assisted living facility. Luckily, she was a penny pincher all her life because at least she can afford somewhere nice to stay for a while anyway. She is 87, but physically she is extremely healthy.

Ave -- can't believe it is that cold in Florida. We are supposed to go down to the mid teens tonight which is very cold for Charlotte.

The reason that my brother is taking care of daddy is that there is a lovely assisted living home within about 5 miles of my brothers house. There is a six month waiting list here in Nashville.

The titans are playing new england right now, but I just can't stand to watch it. I get my blood pressure up when I yell at the TV screen after they make a stupid play or mistake. I think what I need is a bowl of orange sherbet and vanilla ice cream mixed. Just like a big cream sickle. Or should I make some oatmeal raisin cookies?? Mike

I vote for oatmeal raisin cookies although I'm not sure if I can eat them at the moment.

Feeling much better although there's still some pain and I can't really eat on the right side of my mouth. The pain is nothing though compared to the pain by Friday night. Thankfully there's an emergency dental clinic available. Didn't know about it beforehand but it was wonderful. Still have to call my dentist on Monday and go back and see him to finish it up.

My biggest problem now is that the antibiotic has to be taken on an empty stomach but the pain medication has to be taken with food. I can diet nicely because I can't snack at all.

At least it didn't happen on the cruise.

It's a little warmer today. I think it's supposed to go up to something like -10C.

Take care everyone.

Fiona

Over here it's 10ºC/50ºF and pouring

Kim & Peter,
I hope you find a new job soon - We need you on the ship ::yes:: :wave2:

Fiona,
we keep our fingers crossed that you pain vanishes - and that the bill isn't too high.

Mike,
sorry about your Dad. My Grandma suffered from Alzheimer's too. When the disease really progresses its harder for the family than for the patient:( So we know what you're going through.

We sent DS#2 back to college today. We have had his car to the mechanic twice while he has been home on break. The first time was when we had it towed to the garage on his way back to school after Thanksgiving. They couldn't find the problem but did do the inspection for him. It only seems to have a problem when it is being drive long distances, so Norm and Brian took it for a ride a week ago and didn't it nearly shut down again. So back to the garage, and they thought they located the problem and fixed it. So yesterday after getting it back, Norm took it for another long drive and was lucky to make it back home. He said it was worse than before. So we sent Brian off in my van again and we have to take his car back to the garage. I am able to drive it back and forth to work so not completely car less again. However, if they can't fix the problem the car does Brian no good to get back and forth from school. Of course, he has no money to buy a new car. So I guess I will end up floating another car loan to a child to buy a car. I am still waiting for DS#1 to pay me back for the car we helped him to buy nearly 2 years ago. I hate cars.

Norm and I went to AAA Disney Days this afternoon for something to do. Thought I would maybe win a door prize. No luck there.
What was funny was I ran into a couple of people I know from work. Both of them know we go to Disney all the time and cruise with DCL. So I ended up answering all their questions and helped to steer them in the right direction with making their plans. I should get a AAA commission. The Disney ladies who did the presentations were that interesting and made things kind of confusing if you didn't have some background information. Norm thinks that would be a great job for me, since I talk all the time anyway. Maybe that can be my retirement part time job.

Saturday was really cold. We haven't had single digits in a long time, we even built a fire in the fireplace. Today is a little warmer, in the low 20's. Downright balmy.

With both boys gone, and my hockey stuff nearly caught up for the year, I hope to start to scrapbook again. I need to get those past 2 cruise in the scrapbook before it is time to go on another one. However, for this afternoon I plan to just lounge around and enjoy the peace and quiet at the house.

Jeanne-- I sent you a pm with my reservation number.

Stay warm everyone.

Nancy::MinnieMo

Fiona--- Hope you have a speedy recovery from your dental excursion. Sending pixie dust to you.

Mike--- So sorry to hear about the situation with your Dad. Hope everything works out. Pixie Dust your way.

I don't watch football, but saw on Headliner News that the Titans lost, but NC won. So we have some happy folks and sad folks. I thing the Eagles play today. Isn't Cathy an Eagle fan?

Nancy
