WHAT A DAY!! A patient started having chest pain. 3 nitros later..STILL having pain! Time to call 911! For those that don't know..I work in an OB/Gyn office!! We are prepared for an emergency BIRTH...NOT an MI!

Then a crazy women who needs surgery came in. She wants to see whatever doctor can operate on a spacific date (because the stars are alligned in her favor). Silly me...I always pick my doctor based on SKILL! What is she THINKING???!!!

Ave, so glad your co-worker is staying:teeth: And having a way to resolve problems too!

We also have PTO, but must use 24 hours of PTO before sick days can be used. I feel the same as jeanniec re: sick time. I had about 100 hours when the "new" rules went into effect. The people who were always used up their sick time made it hard on those of us who did not abuse it. I have about 300 hours now, and while I hope I never need it, it's nice to know if I ever was so sick or hurt, that I needed to be out of work for 2 months, I would still get paid.

It's actually interesting hearing about other people's policies re vacation and sick days. Eric, how come you get more vacation days if you are over 35? Not a bad perk for getting older.
Fiona,
this is a quite common rule over here, especially in the Public or Civic Service. I.e. my Mom works for Frankfurt's Chamber of Commerce and Trade. She went to 33 days at 50 and 35 at age 55.
They just assume that older people need more R&R than younger ones.
But as times are changing with a high rate of unemployment nowadays, those rules often only apply to people who have 'old' contracts. Newly hired people normally have not so fortunate conditions. Fortunately my company still is hiring, so no changes for us in the near future.

I nearly forgot to mention it:
Another snow-day today  It started at 5am. No problem for Anja and me as we usually leave shortly before 6am. we both were at the hospital, respectively office on time. But when the rush hour really started all hell broke loose. One should think that the people are meanwhile used to it, but we had dozens of fender-benders, traffic jams and big delays.

This morning I got a call from our TA. Our flight to Orlando via Pittsburgh has been cancelled, now we're coming in via the USA's first capital, but our layover will be to short to ring the Bell of Liberty ;) Unfortunately this results in a later arrival at MCO: We'll touch down at 0819pm, which means that we won't be in Crystal River before midnight. Retrieving our bags, shuttling to Hertz, taking over our car and driving about 100 miles takes its time. But I guess we'll wake up when jump from our dive-boat in the morning :boat: :jumping4:

Mary - What happened to the lady with the chest pain? Was she an OB or a GYN patient? If OB, how far along? You sure wouldn't expect to have that kind of problem in your specialty. Also, I really had to laugh at the woman who wants surgery when her stars (or whatever) are aligned.

Peter & Jenn ... So sorry to hear about your pup. My AshLee (Dalmation / child) sends a woof and pixie dust your way. Our first dalmation .. Cindy had a bad liver and similar problem and it's so hard to deal with.

Unfortunately Art is going thru a bad time at work right now ... his lunch buddy and one of only 4 other guys in his section had a massive fatal heart attack while driving one of the school trucks.
His boss called on Art to help with the situation (go to the scene of the accident, get the truck, etc, etc) and it's really playing a toll on him. Not to mention he's my age. One of those times that leaves you spent and not knowing what to do to help.

Didn't mean to bum you guys out.

Just remember make as many good times as you can cause you just never know what tomorrow will bring.

Hi Peter, Jenn & Shelby...

We are so sorry for Shelby, :worried::worried::worried: it stinks when it is your pet and you can't do much but wait. I will tell Gulliver ( my Newfoundland/child) about Shelby , I am sure he would be glad to come down and donate puppy blood, at 175# he has plenty to spare if needed.... Keep us up to date...

Bye, Kim & Bette :worried: :worried:

Jenn and Peter - So sorry to hear about Shelby. Know what you are going through. Dogs are a member of the family. Hope she gets better -- sometimes they really surprise you. Our first dog, Cleo, got really, really sick and we brought her home from the vets for the weekend and the vet didn't think she'd make it through the weekend but she did. Friday night she couldn't jump up on the couch and then by Sunday night she was her old self again -- vet couldn't explain it but we didn't question it.

Snow almost gone here and it's actually above 0C today. It's supposed to go up to 5C which is somewhere between 37F-40F I think. Not great at translating the temperatures.
