Welcome fortiev!!!! Glad to have you and your family aBoard!

Nancy, Congrats on DS#2 Dean's List...Wow! Very cool.:smooth:

Going to be a long weekend for me. Job #2 is calling. Working a double tomorrow (Sat 6:30 am-11:00 pm) and then 6:30 am-3pm on Sun. Then I have a baby shower to go to after work on Sun. Also my nurse manager quit, so I'll be getting a new boss soon. This will be the third one in one year. Glad my M-F job is a little more stable.

Fiona, hang in there. Spring IS coming! :sunny:

Later,
Ave'

Fortierv,
I got your mail :bounce:
So everybody prepare yourselves for another update. I'll do it tonight during "Who wants to be a millionaire?" which always precedes "German Idol". You should have the newest edition then between noon and 3pm. We're now covering all American timezones (Except Alaska and Hawaii) and Central Europe, because Fortierv and his family are from Reno, Nevada. Perhaps I should from now on relate everything to UTC (Universal Time Coordinated or Greenwich Time ;) ), but I think I will stick to EST as our ship will depart from that zone.
We're off to Darmstadt now, about 20 miles south of Frankfurt, for some shopping and working out in the local branch of our gym.

See Y'all later

Ooops, it's been so quiet on our thread in the last weeks

The 8th edition of our evergrowing list has just arrived in your mailboxes - Check it out.

I finally finished all 6 sets of taxes (personal, corporate and each of the kids), so I was able to take a few minutes and link all the dining reservations. Everything is all set. The only thing we need to do is come up with a name so Eric can add it to his list under the dining column. We already have the Veterans and the Twins so hopefully we can arrive at something short, sweet and appropriate. I thought of a few, but none of them thrill me so, dining partners, it's up to you to think of a name for our group!
Here are some of my ideas:
HIFO-9 (for the first initial of our last names and # in our group)
WLTP (for We Like To Party)
CJWHF (for Cruisers Just Wanna Have Fun)
DCL HS (happy sailors, not high school)

My lovely daughter suggested "WE GET WASTED", but I don't think that's a very nice parental role model for the underage member of our party! I haven't the slightest idea who had such a detrimental influence on my own child........!!!!!!

Anyway, somebody help me out and come up with something that isn't so corny! Thanks!

Jeanneg just mailed me that I mad a little mistake: Of course 55 adults + 21 kids result in a total of 76. I thought of Amy & Chris's new baby only after writing the first part and then forgot to adjust the total

Eric: you are right about my German ancestry. However, when you mingle it with my Irish, Scotish, and Italian lineage it's hard for me to claim I'm much of anything. My kids have it even worse.......my husband is part Chilean and part Nicaraguan....go figure that one!
About the Tarheel State.........do you realize you're asking that of a native New Yorker?!? Anyhow, this is how I understand it (and the other North Carolinians can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong): The term "tarheel" was an old nickname given to the troops from North Carolina during the Civil War because the fighting men held their positions so steadfast .....as if their "heels were stuck in tar". It then became a somewhat endearing term for anyone from the state. In addition, UNC (the University of North Carolina and the oldest college institution in the state) adopted that term as the name for all of their sports teams. So it gets a little confusing depending how broadly you apply the term.
Generally, when people within NC use the term Tarheel they are referring to one of the UNC sports teams. When people outside of the state use it, they may merely be referring to anyone from NC - even if they go to one of the rival universities like Duke or NC State University. Hope that sheds some light on the subject!

Just thought of something as DH and I are about to run out the door for our monthly card game.......anybody play Euchre? It doesn't take much to pack a deck of cards and we can always find a nice lounge somewhere on the ship to hold a game.

Jeanneg -- Nice explanation of Tar Heel. I guess I may had heard that somewhere. I'm proud of you. As a native of Chicago, I guess I'm not much up on NC history. Shame on me since I have lived in NC for almost 18 years now. By the way, much of our ancestry is the same with a little extra thrown in -- English, Irish, Scotch, German and Swedish. Sam is 100% Italian so he has no identity problems.

Eric,
Great job on the list. Looks like quite the group. I may need to change my MIL's age to 60ish as well, or suffer her wrath. LOL, just kidding she's great, just don't tell her I let her age out in the open.

jeanneg,
Thanks for the Tar Heal explanation, I always wondered myself.

Hello to all of our fellow cruisers. We have been very busy like everyone else.

Mary here is a link to the navigation system that I use in my cars. Street Pilot It does a fantastic job and it has saved my nerves and more importantly those of my dear wife.

Looking forward to seeing some of our fellow cruisers on April 3 in DC. Eric I will take a group photo and send it to you.

Mike

Got the list Eric, Thanks! I think we will be over 100 cruisers again this year!Just 4-6 more families and we do it! Anymore "lurkers" out there????The sooner you join in the more fun you will have!

My Sister in law and her DH and DD just returned from a NCL cruise. It sailed out of Chrleston last Sat. (and will be doing Western cruises out of Charleston for the next 6 weeks.)They had a very nice time and are thinking of cruising again soon! I have invited them to join us in Oct. but they don't think work schedule will allow them to sail with us:(

Spring has finally come to Charleston. The weather today was beautiful. I just wish it would have come a week earlier!

I just looked at the NASA site to see the launch dates. The last time I looked the next shuttle flight was "Not Before" Sept. 1st so I have been watching in the hope it would be moved to Oct. It HAS been changed...but to "Not Before" March! Oh well, less traffic in the area:p

This is the only launch that comes within reach our sailing date:

Sept. 1 NET* Delta 7320 17-A
CCAFS Swift (NASA-GSFC)
NASA/Boeing government civil launch

NET* means that this is a tentative date and with a bit of luck we could be able to see it - With better chances for Anja & me, as we will spend a week in St. Augustine 09/18 - 09/24, and our Floridian friends, of course.

Hello Fellow Cruisetoberfesters!

I think I'm finally over my post cruise depression...I'm able to post. Not too bad this time, only took about 4 weeks.

Jan 24, 2004 was great, as usual. But took part in an interesting thing. While waiting to board I was approached by a CM to be part of a focus group while aboard. I was givin two disposable cameras, one with a :D and one with a :( . My mission to take pictures with each through out the week. Things that made me happy got the :D and things that didn't got the:( . Cameras had to be turned in at Shutters by 11am on Thursday, and a meeting was planned with a CM in Cove Cafe on Friday, after leaving CC. It was a really cool experience and it's nice to know that DCL is really interested in what the guest thinks.

Glad to see more cruisers have joined us.

Enjoyed reading all the stats...thanks Viking!

Sue

Ok, now I know why I couldn't find my name - although I was sure I had submitted it a long time ago :earseek:
I submitted my name to 'Renee's' list, not the other one. So now I'm on both.

Peter,

Do you have Norton set to automatically scan your email when it arrives? I have that set, and I can't tell you how many times a day emails get flagged from Norton and their attachments that contain viruses automatically deleted. A couple have gotten by, but not as many as you have had. If your settings are set correctly, then I would contact Norton and complain since they are supposed to catch the viruses and not let them infect your pc.

BTW - I use MS Outlook to read my mail.
