Everyone stay warm!

Hi Mary,
you're up early!! I've completed all our ressies and also put the HI Riverview into our routing planner.

Ave,
I hope we can walk to Cpt Anderson's or you must give us a lift: I just checked out their cocktails:tilt: :faint: I think I'd better not drive

Ave:

Andy and I have eaten at Rose and Crown several times and just love it. Good food.

I think the author you are thinking about is Michael Palmer. He is a good author.

Its Monday morning. back at work. Blaaaaaa. Thought we would have a snow day. Maybe tomorrow...

Hope everybody is well......

Arlene

Well, the worst of this is finally over......we got about 4 inches of snow, but then it turned to sleet and everything is a frozen blanket today. All of Raleigh is shut down......even hubby had to close his office. I just heard that statewide there were over 3,200 fender benders with over 1,000 in the Raleigh area alone. Some people just don't heed the warnings. At least there was no widespread loss of power, so we still have our TV and appliances and, best of all, heat. It's in the teens here right now which is very cold for us. Due to the conditions of the roads, schools should be closed for at least another day or two. Hope you fared well in the Charlotte area....I heard you had less snow but more ice....power still on?

Snow, Snow and more Snow. It snowed 4" on Saturday and we had another 8" over night. However, we still were able to make it to work. Did I mention that "I HATE WINTER". Even Norm is complaining. He has used his snowblower more than he has wanted the past 2 winters.

Yesterday, we went to AAA Cruise Day. I thought a little diversion from the cold and snow would help. We went to the Holland America Alaska presentation. We might do that in 2005. However, the thought of going there after a bad winter just doesn't appeal to me. I want somewhere warm. I guess we will just wait to see what next winter is like before we make any reservations. We also went to RCCL presentations. They now have several ships leaving from Baltimore that do the Carribean, Bermuda and Canada. Actually the one 11 day cruise in the Fall to New England and Canada looked really interesting. Plus Carnival and Celebrity also leave from Baltimore. So many options are now near us that we don't need to travel to Florida to cruise.

I also went to the packing presentation, by the packing queen Ann McAlps. She has been on alot of the talk shows. Did learn some tips. She packs everything into a 22" suitcase, her carry on and a large bag which contains her purse. I don't see that happening, but at least I can use some of her tips. And yes, she uses alot of plastic bags. Norm said I should have bought her book. Maybe next time I go to AAA will pick one up.

Well, since I am at work I should go do some.

Nancy

NO snow here yet ...on its way.... tuesday and Wednesday...

Hey did i mention im going to florida on thursday????

kim please email us your home address so we can get the card back to u .. Rain forest one..

ok for now...

No snow here yet although it's supposed to hit sometime today and then more overnight. Hoping for a snow day tomorrow!! DS is off school all week -- it's exam week and he's finished as they started last week and his were all last week. He's supposed to clean his room but we'll see. He was up late last night and I suspect that my house will be full of young men up to all hours of the night. They tire out the dog which is quite amusing because she stays up with them to all hours and really crawls in the morning when I insist on putting her out.

The Producers was good -- at least the second half was. Have to admit that when we left the house I wasn't feeling that great so took some aspirin and then ended up sleeping through a good chunk of the first act. Since I suspect it will run here for quite some time might have to get tickets and go see it again when I'll stay awake the entire time.

Tooth (or lack thereof) is feeling ok today. Now am going to have to get used to it not being there.

Must get back to work. If it starts snowing I'm leaving. Even though we live in the great white north there are lots of people here who still don't know how to drive in the snow.

Fiona

Fiona,
good to hear that your jaw is better::yes::

We'll also have lots of powdery, white precipitation - At least the weathermen say. The next three days are forecasted to bring a lot of snow. Fortunately blackouts are unheard of over here as everything is underground - We're such a small country that we can't waste precious land for telephone poles, etc ;) 1000 fender benders sound tough for me. We had as many during last week's snowfalls nationwide with a population of 82 million people.

Our wires are underground as well but that doesn't mean much as last August showed!!:o

Still waiting for the snow to start. Not sure whether to hope for a snow day tomorrow or hope that it just bypasses us totally. So far this year we've been lucky in terms of snow. Everytime they have said that we are going to get a lot we haven't. The cold on the other hand hasn't bypassed us at all. Nearly froze this morning filling my gas tank.

So can't wait for spring.

Fiona

Fiona,
if need for extra energy arises we can tap into the Austrian, French, Italian and other nets - And vice versa.
But you may be right: Projections for the future predict that blackouts may become possible over here too, if we do not further improve our network and build more power plants. Especially with the shutting down of our nuclear plants within the next 20 years.

Eric,

When Ontario needs more energy we tap into Quebec and New York. The grid obviously has some problems though because of last August and because a brutal ice storm in 2001? caused the grid to collapse around Ottawa and through parts of Quebec for up to 3 weeks. We are looking at putting on line a nuclear power plant and closing the coal plants. Haven't paid that much attention to it but I guess I should.

Predictions for snow here are 15-25 cm of snow between tonight and tomorrow night. So far it's clear but all kinds of activities for tonight have been cancelled such as night school etc. We'll see what happens.

Actually just looked out my window and it's starting to snow lightly. Am stuck here til a client arrives at around 5:45pm so I'm hoping it doesn't get bad really quickly.

Don't worry about the southern states not being able to handle snow -- a couple of years ago the Toronto Mayor called in the army to help clear snow. It's been a joke ever since that Toronto can't handle snow either.

Fiona

Eric, We will drive you home from Capt. A's. No problem. And yes, you could walk there from my house. And yes, there are 2 very good Cajan places. I'll see if I can find you any websites.
Arlene, Yup, you're right, it is Michael Palmer....John Palmer was in my 5th and 6th grade class. LOL And thanks for letting me know about the Rose and Crown. I'm leaning towards the Prime Rib. :p
Rosemary, how nice to hear from you! Sorry, :( the only thing I know about Ft. Pierce is that it is in Fl. But glad you'll get a Disney trip in April.
Hey Peter, weren't you going to Fl? :jester:
Sorry to report, still no snow here.:sunny: :smooth: Sorry, I can't help it.

Ok guys, just in case you missed my earlier post, mention code 102 from the Feb. issue of the Florida Travel Magazine and you should get 25% off. I made reservations for April and got the discount. It brought my rate down to $142 from $190 for a 1 bedroom!!

I'm going to call them tomorrow to see if I can add the code onto my rate. :teeth:

I thought I'd pass along this info in case anyone wants it.

Hi guys. Rosemary good to hear from you.:wave2: to all the family. Kathy has asked for time off from work for the first weekend in April for the Washington DC meet of the Cruisetoberfest III bunch. Hope that the cherry blossom trees are still in bloom.

Eric we went by the Volkswagen dealer and Kathy and I both fell in love with the Tourge. Just wish that we could get it in a diesel over here. She liked it so much she talked about trading Scarlet in on it. Then she saw the price tag. $37,500-45,000. Have to hit the lottery to get that baby. Mike

Yipee, my taxes are done!:bounce: Refund will go towards the cruise (after I pay off a few things:eek: )
I am reading "Street Lawyer" by John Grisham. Very good book so far.
Renee, I looked at the RonJon resort, but unless they add a shuttle, I'm sticking with the Radisson. Maybe we can come visit you there:p

I have a new favorite TV show! Cell Dogs! They showed a SC program tonight that the inmates were training guide dogs. The training "outings" took them to Hilton Head! It is so wonderful that these inmates can do something so positive for other people, while learning (for many of them for the fisrt time) to be responsible, patient, and loving.

The rain started tonight just as the sun was going down, and the temps dropping. They are calling it "Icy conditions" . Some of the night classes at some of the colleges were cancelled and DS boy scout meeting was cancelled :( But no worries...Spring is just a few weeks away:sunny:

Mike,
right now Germans re-import the Touareg from the USA to Germany: The V8 is €56,000 over here, but due to the very favourable $/€-exchange-rate it's only €32,000 in the US. Even after shipping, taxes, and refitting the car to German standards (Tyres, lights) you save roundabout 15 Grand.
Over here it is available with a 2.5litre 5-cylinder Diesel pumping 163hp and the monster: A 5.0 litre 10-cylinder with 313hp ando more than 500lb/ft torque. The smaller one gets you 20 mpg - even at German speeds, but using a light foot you can get up 27 out of it.

Got your mail and already checked out the sites: That Gumbo place looks great.

Talking about the weather: Your DH's birthtown Mannheim has been heavily hit by snow resulting in a big crash on the Autobahn: Two of my coworkers who live there called in this morning and took a day off, because the Bahn is completely blocked by wreckage

Mary - visitors sound good to me. The more the merrier in the lazy river!

Maybe we'll have to stop by the Radisson for the DIS meet to visit too. Then we can check that out too.

BTW - I just called and was able to add the code to our rate. We are now paying $75 instead of $100 for the studio. With the $25 I'm saving, I'll be buying more drinks on the ship.:teeth:

Cabin fever is really taking over here......the snow ended late Sunday afternoon but was followed by frozen rain, so nobody can get anywhere. Even the kids are getting antsy. This morning I awoke to some very bizarre yellow designs in my back yard. Apparently late last night my 18-yr-old and some of his friends had a "drawing" contest! Just lovely..........
How many more days until we cruise.........?

jeanneg -- Yes, indeed, I'm starting to get cabin fever, too. Sam just went outside to take the trash out and almost fell. He has been busy feeding the birds while everything is iced over. We watched some guy in a pickup try to get out of our street to a road leading to the outside world. He gave up after 1/2 hour. I will probably have to go in and work for a few hours on Saturday to make up for being off again today since I have very little vacation time left (too many Disney trips each year). Wish it were May and we were at OKW or July at HH or October on DCL. I HATE cold weather!!
