Hi all

It seems there are quite a few of us taking toddlers around the 1 year mark this year.

I was just wondering how others' experiences have been in regards to giving them whole milk or what you are planning to do. Did your toddlers take to the milk ok and is it easier to buy it from the resorts and counter service or via a Garden Grocer delivery?

Many thanks

When we took my DD at that age I bought whole milk from the CS or resort shop as needed - it wasn't the cheapest but it meant that I didn't have to keep it cold.

I will say though my DD never had formula at all as she was breastfeed until over a year and went straight to cows milk so others may have other ideas :goodvibes

I was wondering about this too and I'm taking DS next month for his 1st Birthday.

Not sure if I should take Fomula and mix it up at the parks or just pick up a little bottle of whole milk instead :confused3

Also what the stance on bottles through security? Can I take a bottle (Milk or water) through full or does it have to be empty.

Also can I take a sealed pre-mix fomula through to open airside or would I have to take the powder?

There's so much to think about :scared1::scared1:

You can take milk through security for babies but you will be asked to taste half of it. Whether you give formula or milk is your choice - whole milk has the advantage that you won't need to carry it around as you can just buy it when needed which is always a plus in my book :thumbsup2

You can buy ready mixed formula from Boots airside.

We didn't do Disney when my son was just turned 1, but we did fly out to the US for a holiday.

From my own experience, if your child isn't yet really used to whole milk here, I'd continue with formula on the trip. Some kids just aren't quite ready for whole milk right at 1. My son was not, and finding out on holiday was not ideal. He was fine with it by 18 months, but he needed that extra time.

I found the powdered option was fine to take with us. He had learned to take bottles that weren't warmed and mixing it with room temp water was fine.

Guidelines must have changed as all 3 of my children were drinking full fat cow's milk from cups at 6 months and none of them had any problems with it (youngest is 14 now).

if your child has cow's milk here in the UK I imagine he/she would be fine with it in the US too - we usually stay at DVC resorts and their stores sell milk in a variety of sizes. CS locations will have plenty of individual serving sized milk containers. You won't have any trouble finding milk:)

My DD is 6 and she had cows milk from 10 months no issue. She went from BF straight to cows milk - change was complete by 13 months :)

I would give them what they are used to, or introduce the change before you go. I have no recall about the age 'rules' for formula milk as both mine are now teenagers and I bet the 'rules' have changed. All the resort shops sell milk.

We are taking ds at 11.5 mths and plan to take aptimal formula powder and mix when needed. Dd didn't go onto cows milk until a lot older and I would rather keep him on what he knows. We also have a small teavel kettle that we take and I plan to have him onto 2 bottles by the. (First thing and bedtime)

We took DD at age 1 plus 1 week! I breastfed, but made sure I introduced whole milk before we went. I bought it in Publix, in the resort shop, and in the parks (most CS places serve low fat, but some serve whole: Sleepy Hollow in MK for example).

If you're buying milk over there then it's worth familiarising yourself with the types they sell - milk over there is a little odd compared to ours and it took me ages to work out which to buy!

We. Are here now my dd is 1 tomorrow and I bought 14 formula ready made SMA from airport airside and brought them over I've also got milk from Walmart
Also the restAurants all do milk too I've used that too in her bottle
