1 pro and 1 con about DVC!

We are still trying to decide if we should become DVC member I would like to know what is 1 pro and 1 con about DVC

Pro: Enforced vacations.

Con: Enforced vacations.

Its nice that every two years we HAVE to take a vacation to somewhere we know and enjoy. At the same time, the value really isn't there to go anywhere else and - while we are unusual DISers - we have outgrown frequent Disney trips and would likely go somewhere else.

Con - You can easily run out of bad things to say about DVC

Pro: Disney vacations ... nuff said
Con: On the expensive end of the timeshare spectrum given it's limitation (trading outside of DVC is NOT a good value)

Pro: After just a couple of years it really does pay for itself

Con: I really hate not having enough fresh towels...when carts of towels are left for the taking at the value resorts and I am limited to fresh towels every 4 days....that to me is the biggest thing I don't like about DVC

Con: feeling like the kids are getting spoiled and not appreciating how lucky they are to experience these kinds of vacations.

Pro: as someone said, forced vacations. DH is such a workaholic, and it's great that he HAS to take vacation
Con: Does DVC have a higher percentage of HA rooms? It seems we've gotten HA rooms far more often than pre-DVC.

Pro: The 1-bed room at about 300$ a night (10$ a point value) or 2 bed-room at 450$ a night (10$ a point) at BC. Compared to any discount, this is a steal!


Con: Limited rooms, when not planning 11 or even 7 months out. If you plan a trip 3-4 months out.. Sometimes you get SSR, sometimes you can split stay, somethings you get ...Nothing.. . It drives me crazy, that I can get a room at my DVC for cash, even 45% AP discount, and NOT with points I paid for, anywhere. ? ? ? ? You have to plan 1 yr out to make it worth it.

Pro: savannah view at AKV for the next several decades
Con: ummmm...hmmmmm....still thinking on this one.....realizing that you don't own enough points after a couple of years.

PRO: being able to experience numerous trips at my happy place with my family in tremendous accomodations I would not otherwise book at cash rate

CON: monthly dues

But it is definitely a trade-off I'm willing to take.

My wife and I are trying to decide if the DVC would be worth the investment. A lot of the "Cons" on here talk about how expensive it is.... do you pay monthly on the points or how does that work? Just curious... thanks in advance for anyone who can help me out... or PM me if you prefer not to post.

That depends on whether you pay cash for the purchase of the points. If you finance you will have your monthly payment on the points and your maintenance fees too.

Maintenance fees can be paid yearly or monthly.

We have a small contract but we paid cash for it and I pay cash for our dues in Jan so:

Pro: when we vacation on our points we don't have to come up with any cash for our room, makes that vaca so much more affordable!

Con: the rigidly stuck to 11 am check out time, I never seem to be ready to go!

Pro: Without DVC I would never had stayed in such nice rooms or gone on a Disney cruise. There is no way I would have paid the rack or even the discounted rate on the Treehouses for a week and with DVC I don' even blink.

Pro2: I have owned it for ~17 years, my last kid is a Junior in College and both of my kids still want to go with me to Disneyworld

Con: If I want the choice of where I stay I need to get off my butt 11 months out to reserve it.

Only real negative is wondering if I would have enjoyed going on more vacations elsewhere - it is too darn easy to just go to Disney

Pro - We now get to stay in beautiful, large accomadations
Con - With 4 kids, it's hard to schedule vacations around all of their activities and it will only get harder as they get older. Have to go at high point times because we can't pull them out of school anymore.
