We have points over at AKV. Now we are thinking of add-on itus had hit us. We are thinking about getting more points. Haven't exactly decided where yet, ssr, more akv, bcv? Not sure

So, management wise of the contracts. Is it easier to manage your points with one master contract thru disney vs. having 2 master contracts. Like if we buy resale. We are strongly thinking buying resale over at ssr. This can put us in a 1br for 2 weeks, one there and the other at akl.

If you add-on thru disney they get you the same use year. So, again do people have problems. I know you can only transfer in or out of your contracts once a year. So, does that count for each one you own thru disney if they are under 1 contract, vs 2 contracts if i buy resale.

We have had several emergencies this year and last, and have made and cancelled ressies multiple times. So, i'm wondering which way may end up with less confusion with MS, if we add on.

If someone could let me know the pros and cons to the two situations, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Connie

The accounting is easier if under one master and you can combine points for that last night at 7 months for different home resorts. Having different Masters allows you to pick the UY that best fits a given trip and gives you a certain level insurance if you have to change or cancel a trip. What's best depends on your situation. Anyone who can balance a bank statement with a checking and savings account should be able to handle 2 UYs but it is simply just having one.

Definitely one contract. And since you're looking to buy SSR, there's plenty to choose from, in terms of contracts, so finding one that matches your current UY shouldn't be all that hard.

I have two different contracts and I am required to use my once a year transfer from the other to the other every year. One UY is Dec, the other is Sept.

Agreed. The best advice my guide ever gave me was to put all points under one master contract with the same UY. We own at BWV, AKV and VWL. I can't imagine the spreadsheet I'd have to use to keep track if I had to add worrying about different UY to the mix of variables!

......If you add-on thru disney they get you the same use year.

> If you buy a resale with the same Use Year as your first
contract it can be arranged with Disney to link that resale
to your first contract as an add-on just as if you'd bought
the add-on directly through Disney.

> If the contracts are linked ( your first contract & additional contract(s)
with the same Use Year that you purchase ) that is considered
1 contract - there is no need to transfer points

> A transfer would happen if your 1st contract has a different Use Year
than the additional contract you buy - - ie #1 has 200 points &
#2 has 100 points and you need 300 points for upcoming trip;
you can transfer 100 pts from #2 to #1 but this uses the
1 time per Use Year transfer option for BOTH contract #1 & #2

BUT more important to note in this transfer scenario is that if
contract #1 and contract #2 have different Home Resort then
those points can't be combined for resevation at either Home Resort
until 7 month window - the points retain their Home Resort
status ie 200 pts are from AKV & 100 pts are from SSR even
though you'd transferred over SSR points prior to 7 months those
100 pts can only book as many nights as they'd cover at SSR
during months 11,10,9,8 prior to check-in date of trip you
want to combine the points for.

If I bought a resale contract at SSR. Would disney be able to combine the resale contract into my current master contract? Or is that just not done, and you have 2 seperate contracts?

Thanks again,

Connie

Be aware that it is possible to buy resale and have DVC treat it as an add-on to your master contract IF it is the same UY (home resort doesn't matter). I knew nothing about this, but got lucky that the resale contract we wanted happened to have the same use year, we titled it exactly the same, and DVC caught it and treated it as an add-on. I am now really glad they did, so we can combine all points at the 7-month mark. Otherwise we would have to transfer, or else make each night entirely from one of the two (you can't combine for a single night if they are two different master contracts). So if you find a resale contract with the same UY, title it the same, and alert DVC so that they can treat it this way. I think once it's done, it's done, so make sure they know it's coming so they don't do it wrong and treat it as a new contract.

Great news about the combining into one master contract. Sounds like it would make management a lot easier, and less of a hassle especially if you need to combine pts to get one night.

Thanks again.

If the Use Year is the same. That's the key to this whether you buy additional contracts through Disney or via the resale market.

But just keep in mind that if your first contract and future contract(s) have different Home Resorts the points can't be combined for a reservation until 7 month booking window. Of course you can alway book as many nights at 11 months that each set of points can cover at the particular Home Resort they are "attached" to and then at 7 months try to move nights over to one resort if there is availability.
