Saved over $300 on airfare by adding an extra night (Saturday) to our October trip. Nothing available at BWV, so made a reservation for a 1 bedroom at OKW (near HH) for the extra night. I was surprised that HH was available - didn't ask for it. It apparently was what the CM found when she checked.

We've not stayed anywhere but BWV for our DVC WDW trips, so looking for ideas for things to see and do at OKW. I do not anticipate that we will visit the parks that day.

So - what are your favorite things to do at OKW?

Thanks for any comments or suggestions.

You could lounge by the main pool, or take the boat over to Downtown Disney.

Walk to DTD and take the boat back. The path is in the South Point area so it will be a little bit of a trek from one of the "near-HH" rooms. But if you've got nothing better to do, it's a fun way to see that part of the World.

Rent a boat and tour the canal. In 30 minutes you can go to either Port Orleans and back or DTD and back. In an hour you can do both. You will also pass the Tree Houses along the way. We saw lots of birds too.

We enjoyed walking to DTD and to SSR (for dinner one night) and taking the boat back.

This might sound strange but spend a bit of time just enjoying that huge 1BR villa! We enjoyed just being in the room and sitting out on the large veranda. Eating breakfast out on the veranda was a real treat.

Take a nap on the sofa of your huge living room! Enjoy the spa tub that's actually big enough for two, as opposed to the little ones in other resorts. Have breakfast on a real verandah, not one of those mini balconies at the other DVC's. Enjoy the laid back neighborhood. OKW is a world away from BWV and much more relaxing!

Thanks for all the ideas.

Walking to DTD and boating back sounds like a great idea for us (we're not pool people) - especially if our room isn't ready when we arrive for check in. I'll have to look up Caskbill's threads on the path to DTD so we'll be prepared. Maybe we'll stop off at SSR, too. I enjoyed our meal at the Turf Club a year or so ago.

I am on the waitlist for the BWV - I'd really prefer not to move. But DH is OK with it. Murphy's Law being what it is, I'll probably get all excited about OKW and then see that the waitlist came through. :rotfl2:

Do the near HH buildings all have elevators? No big deal if they don't, but I'm thinking of asking for an upper floor so that we don't have to deal with any "elephants" who may be living above us, LOL. Of course it is only for one night, so it really doesn't matter. Think I'll just let the CMs do their thing and be surprised.

It's nice that they'll move your luggage if you need it. We like to have supper at Olivia's, walk around the whole place to check out all the pools, and take the ferry over to DTD. Of course, only the newest buildings have elevators. IMHO, OKW is the best.

Only the newer 60's buildings have the elevators, and they are usually reserved for disabled guests, but we have gotten a few rooms in those buildings, so it's possible.

We had only stayed at BCV until this past Christmas. We were late in planning for Christmas '07 and had to do a waitlist and decided we would have the best luck with OKW or SSR. Decided to try for OKW and eventually it did come through. My wife and I were both anticipating disliking OKW and walked away LOVING the resort. The layout of the resort was awesome. Kind of like a Florida condo community. The room locations were more private than the other Disney resorts we had stayed in. Loved the walk to the HH (we had bldg. 27, also close to the Penninsular Rd. bus stop).

They also played a couple of Buffett songs on the Bus and Lobby background music loops. Nice.

I would say give OKW a try. Go to the pool and relax. We all enjoyed getting "carry-out" for breakfast from the Goods to Go Breakfast and eating it in our room. They also have shuffleboard, tennis, basketball, and boat/bike rentals.

We enjoyed our dinners at Oliva's as well. The bread they serve with the meal is one of the best treats on WDW property!
