I am weighing the options between 1 large contract at SSR (for the value price) or AKV (for the 11 month availablity of value or concierge rooms)
or
2 Smaller contracts at AKV and BLT (for monorail access)

If we did the smaller contracts we would borrow and bank and use the 11 month window to book our rooms every 3 years.

We would make sure we had the same UY for all of our smaller contracts.

I vote for the 2 smaller. Will be nice to book 2 diff home resorts at 11 months. We are in ROFR for BLT and I am looking to add AKV for just those reasons you stated.

We like the flexibility of smaller contracts. If you decide to modify your portfolio, selling off a small contract is easier.

FYI if you haven't stayed at AKV club level, you may be disappointed. We own AKV, stayed there a couple of times and don't really see a reason to stay club level again.

What do you consider large contracts and small contracts? Do you book studios, 1BR, 2 BR? How big is your traveling party usually? Would split stays bother you? When do you usually travel?

Sorry, to ask these questions but you can get a more informed answer if we knew a little more?

Thanks for your opinions! I like the of idea of 2 or maybe 3 50-75 point contracts.

We like SSR, BLT and AKV but we may just get two for now and then buy from Poly later (if) when it's released. We want to get one contract direct from Disney so that we can do the DVC members cruises

We would probably only get studios with these points but if we wanted something bigger we could do that too. We would keep our UY the same so that our points could be used at 7 months to get something larger. Split stays would be fine with us. We are super fexible and we look forward to trying out all the DVC resorts over time.

I would go with a resale contract around 100 points. 50 points are great but when you add the closing costs, higher cost per point that can add up.
100 points will give you a good base it may satisfy you for a couple of years and prices on resale may drop in the future for that second contract.

Also, understand use year before you buy anything.

You should also consider that if you plan to go always or most of the times using banked+current+borrowed points you lose a lot of flexibility to adjust/cancel/alter your plans.

For your case of 2 smaller contracts like 50-75, I´d prefer one larger 100-150 points contract instead. If it is 2x150 or 300, maybe I'd take 2x150.

If you're looking at 150 to 225 points total I would not pay extra to split them up as you're described. 225 as one compared to 3@75 at a single resort (for simplicity) will run you maybe up to $2500 or more than getting them all together with 2 extra closings and the higher pp costs for smaller contracts. It's also give you access to more contracts to chose from. Comparing SSR to AKV just for value. IF you bought SSR or AKV such that you bought AKV for value @ 11 mos vs AKV standard using SSR at 7 months, the total dues and up front costs would be very close and you'd have more total points. Of course that wouldn't give you concierge access so you'd have to decide. IF you were going to 225 ore more, you could buy one larger and one smaller contract. I'd just buy around 150-170 at whichever you decide then see how it works and how you like the usage options. Then you can add on later if you need to.

Basically buying SSR and using them at AKV is as cheap as buying AKV to use for value but then if you only use them that way part of the time, SSR becomes a much cheaper option. IMO it also doesn't make sense to buy AKV for concierge unless you're going to use it periodically and can plan 11 months out.

exactly :thumbsup2
imho, a 100pt contract is "small" (we have a 270, a 100, and a 60pt contract), much less than 100 is more frustrating (as well as costing more initially).

1 more vote for the 2 small contracts, I'm sure you'll be very happy with both AKV and BLT at 11 mo.

Take into consideration that the concierge and value rooms are difficult to get even for owners. We've had no luck booking them for more than 2 straight days at the 11 month mark over the last few years.

Just a side question...

why does everyone want the concierge rooms? Is it really worth it for some danishes and tea? Do you get other benefits I am missing?

Exclusivity and the feeling of being special, it's a human thing.
