You have one full day at Disney, you're going to MK - Would you leave the park to do a Character Dining Experience at Chef Mickey? Or would you stay in the park & get a bite to eat there?

I probably wouldn't. I would look for a sit down meal mid-day in the park to escape the heat and get off our feet though.

I suppose I would have to weigh all the variables here ..... whether or not you've ever been to MK before, whether you've been to Chef Mickey's before, how badly you wanted to eat at Chef Mickey's, if there are children involved, and on and on.

If you DO decide to go to Chef Mickey's, at least it's on the monorail and quite close, so you're not looking at TOO long of a travel issue.

If it was me, and I was paying the one-day ticket price, no way. I would stay in the park and do as the PP said and just find a nice place to sit for a little bit.

Absolutely not. I probably wouldn't even leave to eat at a good restaurant, I definitely wouldn't do it for Chef Mickey's.

Probably not. Going over to Chef Mickey's would probably take about 2 hours out of your day, and that's a lot if you're only spending one day at Disney. If I only had one day I would try to do as much as possible and just grab a snack or a quick service meal. But if you want to meet characters then the Crystal Palace may be a compromise since it's at MK.

I wouldn't since you can do Chef Mickey's any time without a park ticket. I would eat somewhere in the park.

I personally would not leave for a meal at Chef Mickeys if you only have one day at MK. If you have kids and/or wanted to do a character meal, you could make a reservation for Crystal Palace which is right in Magic Kingdom. They serve breakfast, lunch or dinner buffet style and the characters are from Winnie the Pooh. Or there are several other options right in MK that you could consider. Have a great time.

Stay get a bite to eat there... Fast or full service there a plenty of goo places.. Spend as much time as you can in the MK.

Like others have said stay in the park. If you have one day and want to see all of MK, with so much there to do, why waste it with travel time?

definitely would stay in the park & get a bite to eat there, quick service

It totally depends on (1) what are the park hours and how much of them do you plan to stay for and (2) what the crowds are anticipated to be that day, along with the interest level of your kids. IF the park hours are long and it isn't going to be so crowded, there's no reason why you can't see everything you want plus have time to take the kids to Chef Mickeys (food is lousy, but my kids always liked the characters). On long days, we often take a couple of hours off anyway to go swimming or do something else, so why not Chef Mickeys if that's what your kids would like. But if the park is closing at 7pm for example, and it might be crowded, then it's not worth taking two hours out of your day. Bottom line, there's no right answer that applies to all circumstances.

Just me, but I would go 'non stop', grab something to eat on the run. Eating is not that important to me - too many things to see/do, and so little time!! :D

I think Character Meals are a waste of Money and I've only did it once. I personally prefer time with Mom or alone at a meal and to spend the time in a Meet and Greet in the Park. Personally, I would eat at the Plaza restaurant for Lunch in Air Condition.

Personally, I like the Plaza for MK days. The food is decent and it is nice to be in the air conditioning. That being said, hopping over to one of the MK resorts could be a relaxing option for a nice lunch. Grand Floridian Cafe is adequately priced and the atmosphere allows for a real "break" from the theme park crowds. Either way you can't go wrong.

During holiday periods sometimes the MK is open between 9 a.m. till 1 a.m. or more. // Hours during off time periods are shorter, but crowds are lighter so you can get more done. // I think a big part of it is your touring style. Some people like to be there from rope drop to closing and do attractions multiple times. // Others like me and DS (20) are happy to just do about 14 attractions with only one or two for a repeat. // Do you like a break for a few hours (will you say how nice - just what I needed) or will your party be antsy to get back and do more? Maybe I'm just getting old or have been too many times, but the break sounds nice to me. (Less is more). But I've definitely done lots of 14 hour plus days at the MK before without leaving too.

I've gone over to Ohana for a two hour dinner break and that was just what I needed to refresh me for the evening / get off of our feet for a while. That was though on a day when we were there at tope drop and the park was open till midnight and we stayed till 10.

On my next MK day (January of 2017), my son and I will be doing the 5 hour Keys to the Kingdom tour from 8 to 1, that includes lunch and then will do attractions after that. That will be plenty of time for us to get our must do's in as we are going at a slow time (long college Christmas break in January - school typically starting only after the MLK holiday). Not even sure we'll stay till closing which is 8 p.m. or so, but wouldn't be surprised either way. DS even though he is 20, may want to stay for fireworks.

We went to Chef Mickeys for dinner a few days ago for the first time. It is overpriced and overrated. What I would do is go to MK when the park opens go to Crystal palace in magic kingdom (buffet with Winnie the Pooh and friends) and then stay until closing.

thank you all! we are not going to leave the park & made lunch reservations for 11:55 at Crystal Palace.
