# 1 Billboard AND Country Album - Dixie Chicks

Yes, I had to laugh when I was watching it last week. There wasn't anyone booing her comment in the audience. I don't think that is wrong to say that someone has put their foot in their mouth. I actually think that comment was being kind after what they have said.

I can't believe how stupid those Chicks are.

They should drop everything, get hammered, and perform some songs about how tequila makes their clothes come off.

That's country music.

You know, I like a lot of country music but hearing the artists and the majoirty of the fans speak just turns me off. It's true... the DC have grown past country music as it exists today.

It is pretty impressive to sell so many albums...I think they love riling up the conservatives...the controversy serves them well. They've played country music fans for the fools they are.

Just because I don't agree with something you say does not give me the right to make threats on your life. For someone to actually plan her demise was over the line.

I love their title song and am very happy they have come out with a new album. Whether or not it is played on the country stations will not stop me from listening to it.

I'm no country fan, so no one is losing any money on me due to political positions. That said, it doesn't appear to me that any records are being set by the sale of this latest CD. Gretchen Wilson's sales were outstanding. That's not the case here. I see nothing worth bragging about.

They haven't played country fans, it would simply appear that both sides have outgrown the other. The country fans will still be buying music long after the DC have stopped selling music. Lots of new country acts have been given airtime they might not have received had the Chicks been recording music during the last 3 years. Their absence has been good for country and again country will still be around long after the chicks have been abandoned for the "new flavor" of the month by their "new fans."

I don't think they should count their 'chicks' just yet. Here is a little blurb I just read:

"At this rate, “Long Way” could easily sell 2 million copies before it’s all over. The numbers are impressive(514,000 copies), but they are off from the Chicks’ last release in 2002. The first-week sales of that album were a whopping 780,000 copies, and the total came to over 5 million."

The country fans going on about them are fools because of their statements about why they have casted out the DC.

They go on about how the DC went political why buying CD's of the artists making the same kind of political statements the DC area.

The stations go on about taking the high ground in not playing the DC which is laughable given the content in the rest of their playlist.

Yes, the DC's are playing them like a fiddle.

You see it one way Cardaway, I see it another. Stations are not playing the chicks because the fans of those stations have requested that they don't - the customer is the bottom line for the stations who make money not by playing music but the commercials.

For three years country fans basically forgot about the chicks, from what I've read most radio was willing to play their new music and I think most fans were open to hearing it but the chicks fired the first shot this time by bringing it all up again. The side they are really playing like a fiddle are the liberals, who are out buying the album simply to support the chicks and prove the other side wrong, not because they really like the music.

Some people are buying the music because they like them. We have all their CD's.

You don't need to tell me how radio is run, I used to be in the business. My point was about the quotes coming from the people about why they are not playing the music. The ones I have read are not being honest about the advertisers, they are trying to fly this as a moral high ground move, and they are being laughed at for their hipocrisy.

I don't think it's all liberals (I for one wouldn't throw away money just to prove a point) who are buying their new CD. It already broke records and is #1 on both Billboard and #1 on Amazon. com sales. I'm not a huge fan and am not a CM expert but isn't their music more Pop Rockish inspired than pure Country anyway? I would think a lot of people buying the CD and that are fans aren't really hard core CM fans anyway.

Wow, the DC sure do get this board jumping. I've seen the video for "Not Ready To Make Nice" I thought I saw it on CMT but it was probably VH1 (I usually don't watch VH1, but maybe I was channel surfing). Anyhow, I thought it was a pretty good song. I'm just wondering if they will be doing their old "country" songs during their concerts or just doing the new stuff. A lot of their old stuff is definitely country. I think their fans will want to hear the old and new stuff, but since they don't want to be associated with country music anymore will they still do them?

They had it on CMT yesturday. I was listening to it while cleaning up & I had to look to see if it was them. Not impressed at all.

Very few CM acts are not more pop that tradional Country now. It's why in this area, and likely many others, they had two Country stations. One traditional and one "new" Country. Even the one that plays both has times dedicated to traditional stuff to make people like my in-laws happy.

Just another reason why the CM folks taking shots at the DC look so foolish.

So it was CMT I saw it on then. I thought maybe it wasn't since supposedly country music has turned their back on them. I kinda liked the song, wasn't their best, but wasn't bad either. I wouldn't trun it off if it was on the radio, but I wouldn't go out and buy the CD just for that song.

Although I grew up on Rock, I'm a big fan of Folk, Hillbilly and Bluegrass etc. and I prefer the old school Country when I listen to it. I don't know much about the "new" Country or the singers. Sounds like all the other current Pop songs but with a little twang. Nice, but not my cup of tea.

I am located in southern Ohio and they are not playing the 'chicks' music here much...which is working out quite well.

Personally, I'm ashamed that the chicks are from the US....
