we'll be flying home from MCO to London via JFK at the end of september and I've just had an email from delta saying our flight times have changed and we now only have an hour and a half to make our connection? will this be enough time? It took me about 45 minutes to clear immigration at JFK in february and i'm a bit worried we'll miss our flight. I'm guessing that we'll be going through the domestic arrival queue at immigration as we're going home not arriving in the US. any information would be helpful :)

Are you on Delta (metal) for both segments? Are you booked on one ticket?
Can you look up your flights and see if you're arriving, and departing, from the same terminal?

Assuming you have one ticket for both flights Delta will have to accommodate you on a later flight if you miss your connecting flight.

Try to make a new "test" reservation. Does the flight combo you have booked show up as being available.

I think you're cutting it close but which would you prefer? Guaranteed more time in JFK (rebook your flight) or the possibility of even more time in JFK while Delta finds a later flight for you.

edited to add: Looks like the connection is 91 minutes. Same flight number for both segments. Delta must think it's enough time. Carefully listen to directions. You don't want to reclear security unless it's absolutely necessary. There is some kind of direct "shuttle" walkway between the two terminals.

If you going MCO-JFK-LHR, you won't go through any immigration at JFK - you'll clear immigration when you arrive in London.

For the rest of it, I like Lewisc's suggestions

we're going MCO-JFK-LHR and both flights are with delta on one ticket. we can't get our tickets refunded to rebook and we're on a bit of a budget so unfortunately can't really afford to change the flights so we're going to have to cross our fingers and hope for the best. On the way out we're changing at DTW and i know we have to pick up our bags and drop them off again at the connecting flights area, do you know if we'll have to do this at JFK or if we can run straight from one flight to the other?

You should make it. As already posted, you won't clear passport control/customs until LHR. Your bags will be transferred at JFK by the airline; you don't need to do anything there. You have to pick up your bags and transfer at DTW because that is where you will clear passport control/customs when you enter the US.

thats brilliant! thanks for your help everyone!

If both flights have the same flight number there is a chance that you won't even have to get off the airplane in JFK.

i was hopeful that i wouldn't have to so i double checked, unfortunately my itinerary says change planes :sad1:

I don't understand why they do that, have the same flight # but you still have to change planes. One time I was flying ATL-LAX on Delta and it was considered an international flight because the same flight # was used for a flight coming into the US. We ended up getting a snack box plus free headphones.

I looked it up. Same flight number but definitely a change in plane. Change in the type of aircraft and terminal.

VERY IMPORTANT. Make sure you know where you're going. All bets are off if you accidentally leave the "sterile area" and have to go through security.

That'll be a pain! i'll avoid having to go back through security if possible but knowing my luck i'll wander off in the wrong direction :rotfl:
