Cast of characters – Me, DH and DD3

Embarkation (E) minus 2 days…

So, it’s Thursday night and I’m feeling pretty good about myself. I’m almost done packing and ready to go. I’ve checked and rechecked my packing list – everything I could possibly need is in my suitcases. My documents are filled out and in my Passporter. Finally, for the first vacation ever, I am organized. Then DH comes in. He takes one look at the four suitcases and two carryon bags that are completely stuffed and decides he could do better. He spends the next two hours unpacking and repacking the suitcases, shuffling clothes from one bag to another. The end result? Four suitcases and two carryon bags that aren’t quite so stuffed and one extremely frazzled wife.

E minus 1 day…

We had a 2:15 flight out of Newark. I had already taken our dog to my in-laws on Thursday morning, so we just had to put our bags in the car before leaving. At the last minute, I realized I forgot to buy a pillowcase for the character autographs and stuff a pillow protector in my carryon. Thank goodness I bought the two pack when DD got her new bed!

Everything went very smoothly. After a quick trip to Staples to look for Mini-DV tapes (“Uh, sorry ma’am, I know we have them, but I’m just not sure where they put ‘em…”) we were off to my in-laws. Made it there in good time, had a quick bite to eat and were off to Newark Liberty Airport to fly Song Airlines (operated by Delta).

I have no complaints about Song. The plane left on time, the crew was friendly, and there was a good amount of leg room (“At least 31” per seat!!”). Unfortunately DD chose that day to begin a new talking back phase. It tried our patience throughout the trip, but especially during the two-hour flight, when all she wanted to do was run up and down the aisles and dance on her seat to Barney. I was wishing that Song had an Oceaneer’s Club of its own.

Despite thinking about throwing myself out of the airplane when DD decided to tell the entire airplane I smelled badly and was a bad Mommy, we landed safely in Orlando with no bloodshed. Andy from FL Tours was there to meet us and whisked us away in his white towncar to the Radisson at the Port.

We arrived at the Radisson around 6:00 p.m and savored the warmth. It was only 60 or so degrees, but coming from the 10 degree New Jersey weather, it was downright tropical. Our room was okay. Smallish and a little on the worn side. But, for $85/night, it was acceptable. We had dinner at their restaurant. Not Disney quality, but, again, acceptable. DD refused to eat anything but bread and spilled an entire glass of juice on her hotdog (accidentally, but managed to soak everything within a two-foot radius). We made our way back to the room, watched some TV and finally went to bed, full of anticipation for the next day – E Day.

Sounds like a trying trip but I am sure it is going to be worth the trouble....can't wait to hear more. I know my 4 kids will fight the whole trip getting to the port but once we see The Magic...I know it will all have been worth it.
