1/2 price under 2 airfare

Did anyone ever get asked for ID with the 1/2 price fare for child under 2 at airport? My DD will be 2 yrs 4 mos at time of trip. Just wondering............

They probably will ask for proof. Then what do you do?

If you ever watched the show "Airline" on A & E, they often hold up parents at the check-in because they do not have proof. They make they pay full price, refundable if they show proof later.

I would NOT risk this. If your child even looks older then two they could ask for proof of age. I have seen them deny boarding to a lap child who turned out to be three. Plus at two your child can talk. It is actually under two and the way the gate agent did it at my airport was he leaned over and asked the little boy "How old are you?" Out of the mouths of babes comes the truth!

Most carriers require a birth certificate for this fare.

I don't think you should risk it either, BUT I just wanted to add that I've gotten the 1/2 price fare for Delta through Expedia at least 3 times and I was never asked for ID or proof of my DD's age and she was just under 2 the last time.

It's great that you are going to buy her a seat though as I know of many people who do not buy their under 2 year old and even their just over 2 year old seats! They keep them on their laps to save money!! That's so dangerous and it will also be so stressful to try and keep them still and seated. That is why I think the 1/2 price for a seat for under 2 year olds is a GREAT benefit and I love airlines that provide it.

I have a "friend" whose going to LA for April vacation and she's NOT buying her DS a seat (21 months old though) and she purchased her seats in such a way that she has an empty seat in between her and her DH in hopes that no one will buy it and then they can get a seat for free! It's so sleezy!

If you're caught you'll be paying a fare based on full fare which will probably be higher than the fare you're paying for adults.

We have not been asked in the past for any proof of age, but our children were under 2 when we flew with these 1/2 prices fares!

We flew twice when our dd was under two - got the reduced fare (it wasn't 1/2 price though) ad we were asked for a birth certificate both times. She was pretty close to 2 both times so I don't think they would need proof for an infant. I would recommend bringing the birth certificate or some form of id if your child is 18mos or older. If your child is over two and you can't prove otherwise I think you will pay full fare - $$$. Sometimes the reeduced fares on travelocity or expedia are less than the 1/2 price infant fares btw.
