"2 months of relentles convincing"

We stayed at SSR with friends on rented points for our annual Halloween trip to MNSSHP this past October. This was our (mine and DH's) first time at a DVC property. I had never even heard of DVC, renting points or the DIS boards until recently and neither had he. Well, I decided to take the tour during our second day at SSR since everyone was napping one afternonn and I was wide awake, intrigued and wanted to learn about "the best kept secret". Needless to say, I got hooked on the idea then and there. I came back overjoyed with enthusiasm woke up DH and began to bombard him with all of the wonderful details :yay: He hit the brakes and did his best to tune me out :coffee: Nice try...you'd think after 10 years he'd know there is no tuning out the loud Latin girl :dance3: I'll give him an A for effort though. He doesn't budge and we enjoy the rest of our vacation. Undaunted, I get back home and join the DIS boards immediately and begin lurking and learning. Armed with facts, figures, the possiblity of a smaller contract through the TTS and the voice of experience on these boards (don't wait, buy sooner and more points) I plead my case again :teacher: He considers everything I've said and tells me, "Well maybe in a few years, but not anytime soon." :sad2: AHA!!!! I see a chink in the armor, we've gone from "No" to "not yet" this is going better than I hoped but I need a new strategy :rolleyes1 Over the course of the next month I bring up smaller contracts I find on the TTS site and how much $$$ we'd be saving in the long run etc. and so forth. We wind up back at WDW for Thanksgiving and stay at Pop Century. There were several snafus in terms of service :sad2: and suffice it to say that the feeling was different than when we stayed at SSR. Naturally, I point this out at every opportunity and proclaim that I am never staying at another value resort again  After our trip I continue right were I left off about how awesome it would be to join DVC :cool1: Finally, a couple of days before Christmas he decides to consider one of the smaller contracts available. YAY! he's figured out I am not giving up on this :woohoo: Later that same day I discover perusing through the boards the referral promotion. DH has a co-worker that owns at OKW. Once I told him about that promotion he went for it :yay: I called my tour guide before he could change his mind! She suggested I start with 160 points. I explained that I was surprised to even be making that phone call at all so I wasn't going to push the issue :rolleyes1 Before you know it DH calls up and says it would probably be a good idea to get 180 points to start  Stunned, I call back the tour guide and explain that I've no idea where my DH might be locked up but they can keep him since I really like this other guy that wants us to have more points :rotfl2: We signed on Christmas day and I am so happy :rotfl: I am thrilled to be a new DVC member, thrilled to have a very cool DH :thumbsup2 and thrilled about our upcoming MNSSHP later this year!

What is not re-counted in here is how many different ways and spreadsheets I found to show him the numbers! I initially did it by hand on the way back from the MNSSHP trip. Then later I found several different versions of number crunching performed by DISers over the years. I brought him all of them.

Busted Wally:scared1:

That's funny. I didn't have to convince Tim at all. Anything Disney and he's all in - probably more so than me. I do wish we had bought sooner than we did, I cringe when I think about how much we paid last time we took both kids down there and stayed at BWV, 2 bedroom, RACK RATE. :scared1:
We bought into DVC the trip after that one. Better late than never.

Thats what my parents did too. We stayed at BWV rack rate in it's first year open by the end of the trip we were members.

Deb and I were going to WDW back in May? 1997 and a week or so prior to leaving we received a post card advertising DVC. I remember looking at it and saying to Deb "This sounds pretty good! We need to get this when we can afford it!". We went on our trip and while we were at the Contemporary, lookin around, we noticed a kiosk and asked a couple questions. She asked if we wanted to take a tour, we hesitated bc we've taken a "tour" before NOT FUN, but then was told there would not be any pressured sale and we would get free lunch. FREE LUNCH!!! I'M IN!!! We took the tour, crunched the numbers and said let's do it! What a bargain at only $56 per point!:scared1:I wish it were that still!:sad2: We bought in at the minimum, 150 pts back then, and ended up paying it off 3 years later. We were so happy to get rid of that payment! 6 months later we bought another 150 and just payed those off last year. :woohoo: Again we were extremely happy to get rid of that payment!!!:dance3: SSMC rolls around and we meet some of the most wonderful people and started what will probably end up being life long friendships!!! While still high from huffin that new friend smell we went ahead and added on again!! This time the minimum went up to 160pts and that's where we stand now. I'm sure once we pay this off we will get some more! It's been the best thing we've ever bought!

it's practical to buy DVC. i crunched the numbers, etc. - it just works out.

On last years member cruise we were talking with a lady that told us her financial adviser told her DVC is a good investment. :thumbsup

Indifferent morning everyone.

I will not be on as often for the next few days as I going to NOLA to see my son in the hospital.

I will have my laptop with me and will check tonight.

Take good care of each other.:grouphug:

I know that there will be a bunch of of best wishes posts so I will say a big THANK YOU in advance.

So sorry to hear that your son is in the hospital. I hope he's on the mend real soon and that it's nothing serious.

Cabinets are coming Tuesday and Appliances Next Friday :worship:

:yay::yay::yay:

Huh? A dead thread! Need to go to bed and lay down my head. Maybe call Fred. Or maybe go out to the shed. It's almost lunch, I need to be fed. Did I take my med? I have no idea what I just said. Just need to get to the next thread!

Junior, you failed to tell them that our free lunch was at Olivia's! :goodvibes

OK, Junior, your last post sounded like Eminem! :lmao:

I need to go type up an itinerary of our trip....we've made so many plans for the three days at WDW after the cruise I am losing track! :rotfl2:
