WOW! I don't even know how many hours I just put in at work, get home and find out the dog got into some really smelly stuff. After two showers, (his and mine), and 5 dinners, (3 dogs, 1 dad, me), I FINALLY get onto the boards only to see that Julio discovered the wonderful world of smilies... I swear, if he keeps it up I am gonna have artificial snow dumped on his streets just to keep him off here. Deb would be happy because of all the Disney Dollars. :lmao:

By the way, right now, not later, give your kids a hug, your spouse a kiss, and spend a moment appreciating everything good that you always take for granted. Above all, say a prayer for our military and their families, we can never repay them for all they grant us daily.

Best wishes to all of you, my friends.

Hey Andy, What is the mood like in New York since the news of Bin Ladens demise? There have got to be some thankful firefighters. Anything you would like to share, we would like to hear.:thumbsup2

Overall, everyone in my area is exceptionally happy and has been from the moment the news first broke. For many, this is a giant step towards closure but it also makes the memory of the attack fresh again.

There is more of a sense of closeness here it seems. It had faded a bunch but now it has surged again.

Of course, this is all accompanied by a renewed vigilance. I think most people were prepared to be more on guard as the anniversary approaches but this just magnifies those concerns.

The fact of life remains that "if you see something, say something" will be our mantra from now on. While his death may bring some comfort it does not change the fact that everything changed forever on that fateful day.

I can't speak for everyone but most people I know appreciated the outpouring of caring back then and still do today. Hopefully that sense of closeness and watching out for your neighbor becomes a "forever change" throughout our nation also.

The old wounds sting again and I wanted to say thanks to everyone who expressed their support and caring. :grouphug:

Well said Andy, and thanks for the glimpse into the NY'ers emotions.

Thinking back in my life there are few moments in history which I would say everyone remembers exactly where they were at and what they were doing at the time: first man to walk on the moon, the day President Reagan was shot (too young for President Kennedy), the Challenger's last voyage, and the day the Towers fell. I would have to say that 9/11 has impacted our lives the most, emotionally, with heightened security, and in everyday awareness.

The news media is reporting all the events over the last 10 years, including families who they have been following. I think the press coverage has been good, at least for those of us who have no direct connection to those lost on 9/11. I can understand high emotions for those who lost friends and family in the Towers, either working there or responding to the emergency. I hope that this, as you say, helps them with closure.

To quote you again, "if you see something, say something." Keep in mind that after an incident like this, it isn't always the traditional terrorist we need to watch out for. Somehow a big event tends to send your average person over the edge, too. I heard a psychologist claim once that given the right set of circumstances, up to 10% of the population could be pushed over the edge. Probably not the best of times for Lara to be traveling around Europe.

My sincerest gratitude to all those who keep American soil a safe place to live and raise my family! Thank you all!

Hello everyone,

Dw and I were on 2010 DVC members cruise and thought I would check in to see how everyone was. Wow you all have crushed the number of threads last year. Tomorrow I get to book excursions and palo for our Dream cruise Aug 2nd. Can't wait. Bringing kids this year so it will be different but still a lot of fun. I am sure this has come up in this thread as it seems it is in every other one but is anyone hearing anything about boarding numbers and is it gettting better. We are traveling with friends and have a private car so don't want to be there to early and sit around for ever but want to get on ship asap too.

Wish we were going with you all but last year they frowned on me leaving school for a week that early in the school year so maybe 2012.

Have a great week and I will report back after my cruise in Aug with some thoughts.

Scott

Hi Scott,
We were on the SSMC 2010, but I wasn't on DISboards until this cruise. There are plenty of SSMC veterans on this cruise, so I'm sure someone you know will stop by to say howdy.
I haven't been following the boarding process too closely, because I figure it would take them a while to dial in the process with the larger ship, but we have a few on here who will be sailing before too long, and one who just recently sailed. I think she has posted some information on it ... I'll see if I can find it for you. Looks like we may be asking you the same question in a few months.
Feel free to hang out here with us if you like! And have a great cruise with the whole family!

PS Here is a link to what Kelly (lilliansmommy) said about their recent cruise on the Dream: clicky
It continues up to about here with other comments likely in between.

OK, Now I think all of you are just being spiteful to me for complaining!!!

Last night, I come on and find over 150 posts that I had missed, tonite there were 10. And that includes one of mine and about 4 responses to my posts... :sad2:

I dunno, if DizDragonfly was here, this would NEVER have happened!:confused3

Pssst ... I think he's onto us. Something must have been leaked. I don't know how because everyone used PM, right? Now he probably knows that we can track when he's on a run and when he's back at the station. Whoever our mole is, we will find you! ;)

Seriously, I was wondering the same thing. Sometimes one or two hundred posts ... other times a handful. The great part is, no matter where you are or when you log on, it's always there waiting for you (except 15 minutes ago when the site was down). And for some reason it always seems to accelerate around post xx80 and then drops off about post xx10. :confused3

Apparently Lara Croft of Tomb Raider fame is from Derby, England. From Yahoo Gaming, "...and [she] even has a street named after her: Lara Croft Way, in Derby, England, the city where her original creators, Core Design, were based." If you're a Tomb Raider fan, you can read the whole story here.

Thank you very much for sharing:thanks:
911 impacted all of us no matter where we live. I cannot imagine what it must have been like at ground zero or one one of those planes. It turned the city that never sleeps into the city that never forgets. I look forward to shaking your hand and sharing some great times on our cruise.

Best wishes to you to Andy as well. A man style  to you too!

Just one story to share to show people how pulled together on that awful day. Chuck worked in NYC-he saw the towers come down and along with everyone else tried to leave. Nothing was operating so he started to walk and walk and walk. A store owner who owned a sneaker store was calling out to all the women in heels to take off the heels and grab a pair of sneakers-for free. People were linking arms helping people to walk. Other shop owners were giving away water for those who needed it. Chuck finally got to the bridge when he saw a landscape truck [with the name of a town near us on it]. They told him to jump in the back and Chuck [in his suit] did and they proceeded to fill up the back of that truck with people trying to get home to Long Island. He was dropped off a good mile away from where I worked [no cell phone at this time so I had no idea where he was]. Once again he walked this time to me. When he got to my office he was exhausted and covered with soot. I heard claps and screams when he walked in. When we got home my daughter ran out to him and cried in his arms. The first thing Chuck did was to hang the American flag up!!
Just wanted to share-Vicki
