09/18/11 - DVCers Take Over the Dream (S.S. Member Cruise 2011) - Thread #5

In response to Karen & Junior's breakfast discussion: Generally I cook an egg every day for Laran and make an egg sandwich for myself. Here's my procedure.

Cook a half pound of lean bacon (refrigerate extra for future days)
Start eggs on low heat, breaking yolk, in bacon grease (no need to salt & pepper, think of it as recycling)
Note: I usually bring eggs to room temp before cooking and cook on low to eliminate the crunchy edges
Begin toast (preferrably a hand crafted bread such as white sourdough)
Flip eggs and add cheese
Butter toast with real butter (stored at room temperature, the way grandma did)
Assemble sandwich
Eat an extra piece of toast allowing sandwich to cool, then enjoy sandwich with your favorite breakfast beverage

The trick, like Junior said, is to get just the right quantities of each ingredient such that every flavor is tasted and none are overpowering. Bread cut slightly thick and well buttered, a mild white cheddar cut medium thick (off the end), and medium cut bacon are working quite well here.

Ok, that sounds REALLY good!! Too bad it's not dinner time or I'd be making one of those right now!
 
Maybe I'll wait intil Sept. to book our next cruise, by then, I'll be a CC and silver member! :laughing: Gotta love the bucket list! :hug:

I'm considering booking now and then reshopping it on the cruise. Prices will probably go up between now and then. It may not pay to wait.
 

I forgot. Something else I use to make fries better... Butter! Take a nice big pat of room temp butter and slap it on your plate then dip or drag your fries in it. I got that from my grandpap. Really good and simple.

I love butter but I think I would prefer it if it was melted to dunk my fries in. Steamed shrimp dipped in butter is sooooo good.

All of these recipes sound really good. Those Disney chefs got nothing on you guys. Do you think we can get them to try these on our cruise?

What are Newfy Fries? My grandmother was from Newfoundland. I've never had a chance to visit, but I've always wanted to.



We have a FRENCH FRIES truck along the WELLAND CANAL that sells fast food. The owner is from NFLD. She calls FRIES with turkey dressing and gravy Newfy fries.
