09/18/11 - DVCers Take Over the Dream (S.S. Member Cruise 2011) - Thread #4

YAY!!!!!!!! Can't wait to meet everyone that's going to the DISmeet later this month!!!!! I'll give you our final count once I know for sure...I have some DISfriends who aren't going on the cruise but would love to join us.

My boss let us leave work at 2:00 (we usually work till 5:00). That was nice, since Junior is stuck at the street department all night tonight. He went in at 5:00 this morning and I don't think he'll be home until 6:00 tomorrow morning OR possibly 3:00 tomorrow afternoon. I don't know what they have planned for the shifts tomorrow. Their normal work day is 7-3 and whenever there's a snowstorm they work OT and then still work their regular shift. But since this is a SNOWPOCALYPSE, and he's going to work pretty much 24 hours straight, I don't know what they'll do with his normal shift tomorrow.

Everybody please keep all the plow truck drivers in your thoughts, they are pretty much going to go through hell in the next 24 hours.

SNOWGASM is here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is horrible everybody. The worst hasn't even hit us yet. Schools are already closed tomorrow. Take care.

Our boss closed the office at 4:30 today, normally 5:30 on Tuesdays and since we hurried and got our Wednesday payrolls done today she closed the office for tomorrow too!!! A snow day - wow. Haven't had one of those in a very long time.

Everyone be careful outside. Here's a bunch of pixie dust for Junior so he stays safe.

Brrrrr! Just cold here! Snow started today right around 2:00PM. We are only supposed to get about a foot tonight, but winds are expected to get up to 40 mph!! My office canceled all deliveries for tomorrow. I will probably work from home. It is so cold the dog doesn't even want to go out

10pm and no snow yet. LAURA is working nights at the hospital. She was informed to be prepared to work 24 hours if no one can get in tomorrow morning

Hi Andy,

As it turns out, I wouldn't be here if it weren't for a few financial benefits. Lara has all her stuff paid for through her job (she is working while here). Laran's an my flight over here were paid with air-miles. They let Lara have a 2 bedroom apartment, a car, a food allowance, and a small additional stipend. The only real additional cost we have is internet (15 pounds per month, unlimited) and weekend excursions.

Speaking of which, has anyone been to Euro Disney (France)? Lara is talking about going there some weekend, but we need to book it very soon. She said they have two parks, and it is common for everyone to load up "tupperware" bowls at breakfast for the whole day to snack on, but that's about all I know. No wonder we see so many foriegners smuggling stuff off the buffets in the states. I hope they speak English, or else we're screwed. I don't know any French, and while Lara had something like 3 years of French in high school, I doubt she could help much. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

We are thinking about taking the slow boat back to the states when we return. Prices on the Queen Mary 2 are slightly higher than airfare back, and assuming that Laran would be less, it might be about the same. About one week from London to New "Yawk" with no stops. I don't know if I would be able to do nothing for that long, but it should be a taste of the days of the Titantic. This is all contingent on if the folks at my upcoming job will allow me to stay here that long.

We have been to Euro Disney. You will have no language problems. English, French, and German were the dialects used most, so the announcements were very entertaining and educational. Best Space Mountain ever of WDW, DL and Euro Disney. Interesting difference in we noticed on our visit was that the Europeans love the shows more than the rides so the longest waits were to get into the shows while the rides were walk ons or short lines. Also the men and boys rode the rides while the woman and girls did not, but they went to all the shows. We enjoyed Euro Disney. I hope you get to go. Please report what you thought if you do go. Enjoy your European vacation.
