09/16/2012 member cruise

I am so mad that I missed the meet up! I just lost track of time! I did manage to run into blossom a lot! Lol

:tilt: Did anyone get an extra Member Cruise postcard? I thought i had set one back for the scrapbook but it turns out I mailed all the ones I picked up.

Thanks in advance for the postcard!!

Low tech all the way.

All scrapbookable items from the cruise are piled together as I unpack. When i download photos I print the ones I like. Then one day I use all the kitchen counter to make piles of all the things from any given day in each pile. Then each pile is reordered by time, Navigators are torn on the fold, activities we did are highlighted and items are glued or Magic-taped on the spaces where we did not do something. Plastic page protectors are used for some items. Completed pages litter the landscape until the glue is dry then they are stacked in chronological order. 3 hole punch is used and all are placed in a 3 ring binder.

That's it.

That's it?!:rotfl2: not enough patience! I unpack, separate memorabilia and put in a photo box labeled 2012 member cruise!

I have a few questions hopefully you can help with -

Who were "billed" as celebrity on this cruise?
Anyone here happen to stay on concierge?
If so, did you notice if anyone was using the royal suites?
Also, did concierge appear to be more DVC members or special guests?

I haven't found any trip reports so any thoughts you can share regarding who is onboard thru the company or otherwise, would be helpful

thanks

We stayed in Concierge for the first time on this cruise in room 12508. Nice room with close access to the concierge lounge. No one used the royal suites other than DVC using them for private tours for those in Concierge. It was a mix of DVC and special guests because Concierge is on two floors of the Dream (deck 11 and 12). you can't put magnets on these doors b/c they are glossy wood. The only drawback to this room is that when the pullout bed pulls out, it blocks the verandah door and desk cabinets. Minor inconvenience.

As far as celebrities, there were the four Broadway stars who did the Broadway show. The guy currently playing Mufasa on Broadway in the Lion King; one that originated Tarzan; one that originated Mary Poppins and one other. The host of the various "workshops" was on this level as well as the Disney illustrators who were presenters and drew various Disney characters and gave them out via raffle. There was also the guy who was the voice of Goofy plus the SVP lady who leads DVC. Sorry i can't remember names. We sat near this huge table of folks every night.

This was the best cruise ever for us. It was during a school week so normally the Dream would have about 4,000 people and 1200 kids; this cruise had 2,000 and 200 kids. The gifts each evening that you found on your bed were great (DVC watches, DVC miniature suitcases with hats, water bottle, mini electric fans, etc), DVC monopoly sets, etc. Being in concierge, you got extra things like a signed lithgraph by the original Disney illustrator.

DVC says they will do two a year. I will most likely do the fall one every year. Well worth it.

Nat Tucker,

thank you so much!!!

we have been trying to figure out how these cruises are since it appears our sept 29, 2013 4-nt on the Dream has been chartered. Rumor has it it's the Fall DVC members cruise.

We are currently booked on this ship and are trying to anticipate our fate.

Could you explain if the DVC gratuity inclusion perk was extended to concierge?

Hmmm. Not sure if I know what that inclusion perk is. We prepaid our gratuities like on any other cruise.

The Vice President who is in the latest DVC member video was in concierge and I got to meet her during the boat drill. That's when you see who's in concierge and she pointed out who was who to me. She said that they will do a fall cruise but were looking at oct or nov. however that wasn't set in stone. Either way, I would do this cruise again and again. The concierge staff were top notch and made it worth it too.

Hmmm. Interesting.

It was my understanding that gratuities were included in the price. I read this somewhere in reference to the 2011 members cruise. Prices had increased substantially compared to the past and one explanation was that gratuities were now being included.

Concierge is the one gray area where tipping isn't normally clearly specified. Were you given any guidance on suggested amounts?

You know what. now that you say that, it does seem like the price we paid to DVC (since we had to pay everything at once) did include gratuities. You're right. I did, however, give concierge staff gratuity. it was three of them and the amount is split between the three. Given their level of service, they deserved something. i looked at the boards to see suggested amounts but we gave $150 for the three to divide between. they were excellent!

Yes, that makes sense. thanks again. I did quote your previous reply over on our 9/29/13 cruise meet thread to give our small group a better idea of what a members cruise has to offer.

It was very helpful and if we do become the 2013 Fall DVC sail, we have something to really consider provided we are given the option to remain onboard.

It was on the DVC member website when she announced the latest perks like the annual walt disney world pass at a discounted. I think we also got it via email.
