09/15/07 Early Check in September 15, 2007 Eastern

You make perfect sense...

... the driving versus flying... I know a number who prefer means other then flying for varying reasons. It does surprise me some - but then again I dislike flying too. THe insulting inefficiency of it sometimes. When I go to Vegas or SF from LA it is almost as quick to drive. Plus if I wanna go with anyone then it sometimes is comparable in cost to drive. THEN, if I'm not renting a car then driving makes some sense. AND... if there are points of interest along the way then driving is the only way to go! Add discomfort with air pressure - then it becomes quite obvious!

And its' curious coincidence... that my spouse and father in law are both Tai Chi enthusiasts. At different times both have led classes/community gatherings in their forms. Plus my FIL has been pretty intense about homeopathic Eastern remedies and such since he retired from his practice. He had been saying quite firmly that if he had cancer with these "growths" then he preferred homeopathic remedies over western approaches. And that is with consideration for all his kids and spouses being surgeons (excepting my spouse and I + one other spouse). AND... my spouse is a pharamaceutical rep for a large oncology firm. But his reasons are sound for reasons which go beyond measuring potential for survival or deferment.

Oh yeah... they are all (my spouse, her siblings and father) quite health concious about diet and exercise. Her Mom and I, plus a couple other spouses are decidedly NOT very health concious about diet and exercise - to varying degrees. In my case it's just a case of being stubborn - lazy - and not very swift (according to my pandering spouse). Seriously - my dear spouse does a LOT to improve my diet and get me to exercise some. If not for her I would probably be far worse off for diet and exercise. \

So - safe travels and I hope things go well for your BIL.

On hotel staging... our favorite engine is HOTWIRE. You can't see the name of the hotel when booking but you get a "star" ranking and a general location. It's been cheapest by a significant margin 90^ of the time. 10% of the time a creative hotelier has been sly about being only slightly cheaper with hotwire.

Congratulations! ... on the additon of Liam to your family! Liam is simply wonderful looking!!! When I see new bablies it renews my memories of our kids when they were just as new... and wonderful memories they were. I can't seem to recall any of the overnite care, leaky diapers or other little trials... rather I remember the joy of first carrying our children... the amazement of their loving gaze... and the joy of their first moments at doing everything new - like walking - pouring beverages - speaking - and so on! THere is SO much to come for you. Makes me wanna go to ask my spouse about havin' another child.

Of course... she'll look evenly at me and give me the usual reply.

NOw this sounds so MUCH like us... and I wonder if my dear spouse thinks I'm kidding or not about going for a 3rd??? <chuckles> ... at any rate YESTERDAY we skipped Magic Mountian on account of there being simply too much planned for the day with the Church Christmas party that evening and rain threatening during the day - plus it ended up raining pretty good that evening. And - for today we went through with hitting Disneyland to meet up with my cousins' family. There are a couple photos from today above with a Californian Santa and Donald plus one more below. The one below was from this California Adventure "kiddie coaster" we rode in the drizzle of the evening just before the park closed. We rode it 6x in about 25 minutes. TOday was a good day even with the heavy drizzle ... maybe I'll ask my spouse again about whether we can "think seriously" about expanding our family from 4 to 5 again???

Kamy,

Congatulations! Liam is so cute. You forget how small they start out. Wyatt is 15 mo. and I can't remember him being that small!

OK...

.... I have 3 Christmas parties more or less at the same time on the same day - what am I to do?

From 4:30pm to 9pm is a gathering of 30 old college friends...
From 5:30pm to 9pm is my family gathering - a small one
From 7pm til 10pm+ is my spouses' girlfriends' party with a Santa fir the kids.

I was thinking of starting at my college friends gathering early - like at 4pm if they will have us helping out to set up - then depart half way at 5:30. That is - my spouse and the kids would leave for my family gathering at 5:30 and I would follow in about 30 minutes. The from my family gathering they would leave at 7pm and I would leave maybe at 8pm? That would sort of make it seem like my spouse and I were on hand at the first party from 4pm til about 6pm ... and we would seem like we were at the family gathering from 5:45pm til 8pm.... and that we were at her girlfriends' Santa party from 7:15pm til it was over?!

Odd - but I was also going to ask my brother if he would consider moving his party to Sunday. Next weekend we are out of town to join my spouses' side fo the family for the holidays - so anything we're gonna do in California is essentially this weekend.

I am spending Christmas in Arizona. Got the call last Thursday that my Brother-in -law was expected to pass. I left to drive out Saturday morning and he did pass Monday at about 9:25AM. This is got to be the hardest time of year to deal with a loss like this. My sister is doing well but has spells of sorrow. The hardest part for me is that they have twin girls who will turn 9 years old on 12/26 and they just lost their father. We are trying to keep things as normal as possible.

Welcome to Liam. He is beautiful. There is nothing that match the wonder of a newborn. What a awesome christmas gift.

Hope everyone has a good Holiday season. Well post more later.Til next time Lois

Lois,

May I offer our most sincere condolences on your loss. Try to slow down a little more in the days and weeks to come to take careful steps in all matters. We will keep your family in our prayers.

With respectful sympathy,

Tom, AKA CC

I am so sorry for your loss. It is very hard at this time of the year. My FIL, whose birthday was Christmas day died 2 days before that. This was 9 years ago and the whole thing still seems like a blur. Take care of those girls. They will need their aunt. :grouphug:

Thank you all for the well wishes. The current goal is to give the twins the best Christmas so that they will have both the sorrow as well as the positive to remember in the years to come. So far both my sister and the girls seem to be doing well but the funeral isn't till Sunday/Monday. I don't think it has really sunk in yet.

My sister has agreed to join us on the Western Cruise (9/8/2007) :thumbsup2 . It just happened that that one seemed to work best for her family. We should be making those reservations soon :cool1: . She and the family went to Disney Land almost every spring. So in honor of her husband she is doing Disney, just Disney World and DCL. I think the girls will have an awesome time and it will give them something to look forward to for the first year. May help them get through it :confused3 . Only time well tell :hourglass .

Can't wait till September. It still seems so FAR away.

Lois- so sorry to hear about your family's loss. As you know, my dad passed 11/1 and I am so sad heading into Christmas...at least Liam is here. Please pass on my sympathy and let them know they are not alone. I know the pain they must be feeling. This is such a sad time. Hugs to you all.

Just wanted to say Merry Christmas to all. Not much to report just been busy shopping and all else that goes along with the season. I am at home putting together joeys gift from santa (bike) and wrapping a bunch of gifts. Tonight we have our engagement party to attend. People have been really slacking lately on here, myself included. Hope everyone is doing well. Ciao.

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, or Happy Kwanzaa. Take some time to relax with your families.
