09/15/07 Early Check in September 15, 2007 Eastern

I found us on page 2... Ohhhh Noooo !

Ok so Im going to be 2 hours early.... Welcome to one day closer to vacation!

Ann

Thanks, Lisa. Are your kids not coming on the cruise?? I just noticed you have a DS same age as mine! I wont fault you for adult time though! LOL! That is why we have grandparents coming! :thumbsup2
Hi Kamy - Nope, my kids will not be cruising with us this time. We took them with us on our last cruise (9/05) and while it was fun, I would rather wait to take them back until youngest DS is old enough to attend the kids club. The kids will be spending the week bonding with their grandfather (my dad) at my house since DD will be starting preK in Sept. This will be DH & mine's 1st vacation EVER without them!!!! I am sure I will miss them but since the day my DD was born, I am hardly ever separated from my kids since I am a stay at home Mom. DH & I only ever get a 'date' night about 3 times a year so 9 nights away...well I don't know what life is going to be like without diapers to change and tantrums to head off :lmao: DH & I will be celebrating our 5 year anniversary and hope that at least every 5 years we can manage to get away together (we are hoping that DCL will be going to Alaska by the time our 10yr Anniversary rolls around) :wizard: I am sure the time away from our kids will do wonders for our marriage to have that alone time to re-connect.

You will come back so refreshed. My dh and I took our first trip away from my dd4 in November. We went to Jamaica for 3 nights and it was wonderful. We can't wait to do it again. Before that we had left her for 1 night on a trial run and a couple of date nights. We missed her but we could have used a couple of more days.

We are definately looking forward to our time away....Sleeping in, not having to cut up someone elses food, ect... We were originally planning on just being away for the 7 nights of the cruise but since we found out about MNSSHP we just added on two additional nights in Disney for a total of 9 nights away. I think that will be more than enough but it will probably be another 5 yrs before we can do it again ;) I am sure I will miss my kids terribly but my dad is so excited to spend the time with them and I couldn't leave them with anyone who I trust more...

Lisa- sounds WONDERFUL! I am a stay at home mom too!!:goodvibes
We are lucky that my mom gives us nights out because all day...I go nuts! With two kids under two....:scared1: LOL!
This cruise for us is all about the family...this will be our first cruise WITH our kids...and we are renewing our vows and we have the grandparents coming, so the kids just gotta be there!
I am so happy for you and your dh....you will have such a wonderful time! And if you miss your kids...feel free to play with mine! LOL!:rotfl2:

So, am I the only one already planning what night for Palo? :lmao:

I had it figured out based on what dinning rotation we requested. If I call can I find out what dinning rotation we ended up getting?

I dont know Heather. I am going to do it based on our request too.....I just went with mainly the night I disliked the menu the most...LOL!

I am so ready to book things. For me the hardest is the Flounders times....especially since we dont have Navigators NOW! LOL! I mean, how do I know what times I want to go to what and not take the kids!?!LOL!
I guess that is what the grandparents are for:lmao:

I am getting way too excited!

Somewhere on here I found a link to navigator's from a February Eastern cruise. They were saying that not much changed from cruise to cruise. I printed them and plan to look through them for somewhat of an idea. I think I found them in the faq link.

I just looked again and I think our first pick would be Wednesday and our second would be Friday. The Master Chef's menu does not look all that great. I really hate missing anything but of all the nights and menu's, I think this is the one I would be most willing to miss. This is our first cruise so I can't make ressies until 75 days out.

Are you only allowed so many hours in the nursury?

Iam not fond of the menu for Lumiere's. They took of one of my FAVORITE things and now the entire menu doesnt thrill me....not like PALO! :cloud9:

You only can pre-book 10 hours I think and then you can do more onboard if available. That really isnt that much. But we will see how it goes.

I will look for the Navs! Thanks!

Ok, here is an update for the cruise, we switched rooms from 7010 to 5512, we liked deck 5 since there aren't a whole lot of rooms and since we are taking her 5 year old son it will be easy to drop him off at the kids club. Other than being above the theatre, no complaints about the room, especially since you aren't in your room that often. Also, her sister lauren and nick are no longer going on the cruise. So if you could update our list. Thanks. Lets see what else, oh, we go to meet the organist for our wedding next tuesday, the priest is taking us out to dinner on monday, i guess maybe to see us in a more natural setting. Her mom and step dad got us a limo to take us from the church to the reception. Ok, thats it for now, dinner is done. C everyone soon.

Pdawg :cool2:

Oh my gosh, you are going to love traveling with your DH. My DH and I went to Jamaica for our 10th anniversary and it really was a special trip. Talk about reconnecting. I think everyone needs some time away from the kids to find yourselves as a couple again. Our in-laws are coming along on the cruise, mainly because we love their company, but let's be realistic, it's great to have someone to help out with the kids.:)

Hope everyone's doing great today.
Tara

I'm still learning this whole cruise thing, I didn't know you could request your rotation. Is one preferable to another?
Thanks
Tara

So I braved all 57 pages of this thread and this is the important stuff we discussed. If you have any changes or additions let me know. This is pretty much cut and pasted together. So I apologize for any misspellings, errors, incorrect information, etc. I know it is not very readable right now but I wanted the info to get out there before I spend lots of time changing and formatting it.

Webpage
To have your information added to the webpage please PM Lisa0503

I have started working on a web site for us to keep track of everyone. It is FAR from done but here is a link:

http://www.geocities.com/lisacarrott...DCL_Magic.html

I have NEVER put together a website before so this is my first attempt. I borrowed the layout idea from the 11 day sailing (WOW did they have lots of stuff going on...) If anyone thinks that we should add other info to it or has any suggestions, let me know now since it would be easier to change sooner rather than later.....

Fish Extender
The purpose of the fish extender is to hold all the goodies that your fellow DIS cruisers may deliver to your stateroom. There is also a contest for decorating your fish extender. It is all voluntary of course. You can participate as much or as little as you want. The 11 day southern group is really large. I would guess that at least 20 of the staterooms have been on multiple cruises together over several years. There are about 90 - 100 staterooms on the roster, both newbies and veterans. Even though Lamar and I have been on seven other DCL cruises, this is the first time we have chosen to participate in most of the festivities. We are even going diving at Epcot after the cruise as one of the post cruise activities. You can visit post #5 of the 11 night thread to see all the pre, during and post festivities that my fellow DIS cruisers and I are lining up. All kinds of great info there about the 11 night trip if you're curious

No problem on the measurements. The overall hanging length is 32'' . The finished fabric length is approx. 26" . It is 8" wide. The dowel is a 1/2" dowel 10'' long. There is a rod pocket at the top for the dowel to slide through. The hanging cord is aprox. 13'' long and there are holes drilled through the dowel for the cord to be threaded and knotted. Use a wire tie or something else to tie the Fish extender to the fish in order to keep it attached.

I have seen alot of variations on the fish extender. One looked like a baseball bat and glove. One had fabric handprints for pockets. All were really cute. Mine was made by Carol and Doug Screenname "Parhumpgirl". They made over 100 of them. Each fish extender was personalized and decorated by the owner. (I did ours with scrapbook supplies mostly.) This was their generous gift to all of us. If you have more questions about how to make one they are the experts. Debbie Screenname "Epcotkilterfan" is the one who came up with the whole fish extender idea. I think it was on the Panama Canal cruise? She bought them at a chain store. You can purchase them on e-bay from what I have been told. This is about the extent of my knowledge on fish extenders.

As for the fish extender gifts, we sailed with a DISclaimer, we know that for some families this may be a once in a lifetime trip. And finances could be really tight. No one kept track of who was leaving gifts and who was not. It just sort of happened. We didn't want anyone left out. Most of the gifts were signed with a greeting i.e. happy sailing from the xxxxx family. Some of the gifts were not signed. Low cost trinkets galore. The costs seemed to range from under a dollar to several. Mostly, they were fun! Some were downright practical. ( a rigid clear plastic expandable folder to keep your navigators and other save papers in.)

How many cruisers will we have? I guess that depends somewhat on us! How much fun we want to have and how many people feel comfortable joining in. Our 11 day group was large due to the "Special Cruise" aspect. Many of the people had cruised together before and booked the 11 together. They will also be doing the Med cruises together. Some have known each other for years.

Secret Mickey Gift Exchange
Tigger&Bubba is organizing
I LOVE Secret Mickey and will volunteer officially to organize this Dis activity.

Here is how it works:

There are adult and children catagories. Adult to adult. Child to child. Female to female. Male to male.

There is a dollar limit set. Total amount spent should not exceed set limit.
On a seven night cruise I think 3 or 4 gifts is a good number.

Participation is completely voluntary. Secret Mickey is randomly selected from participants. You cannot request a particular person. Two weeks before sailing you are assigned your Secret Mickey so you can start shopping.

When we get closer to the sailing date I will ask for PM's from those people that want to participate and ask a series of questions that will help your Secret Mickey select gifts for you.

We will decide on a time and place for the Secret Mickey reveal where you can find out who your Secret Mickey is and thank them personally. Lot's of fun.

Celebration Party
I am thinking we may need to keep a list of what everyone is celebrating and have a party. One that would honor each person and or couple. What does everyone else think? We have several anniversaries already. I bet that there would be at least a few birthdays on or around this cruise. There could be other reasons to celebrate as well. Let me know.

How to Post a Picture
Once you have a digital image to post - upload it to a hosting site... like Dotphot.com (free) or ??? In dotphoto... once it is uploaded ... click through to view it in its' largest configuration... then right click on the image and select "properties". A window should pop up and in the CENTER of the window is a "URL" followed by the mumbo- jumbo of code that is the image's address at dotphoto. Select and copy this.

Now with the address in the copied clipboard.... go over to the DIS forum and click to post a reply. At the top near the center above the area where you actually type the words to reply... is a tiny tan icon rectangle that looks like a mountain pictured with a tiny square on sun in the upper right corner. This is the "Insert Image" button... click it. A pop up window appears... and the insertion point is already flashing there. Click "paste" or a combination of the control key while simultaneously tapping the "V" key once. This is a "shortcut" to paste as opposed to pulling the command from the menu bar above. Now hit the "OK" button OR simply tap "enter" key.

Now your code is in the window with an "" on either side ... the concluding bracket set has a "/". If you want this image centered - then slect the whole thing and tap the "align center" icon 5th from the left above. You can now type your message/reply above or below the photo depending on your artistic taste!

I hope this helps... I imagine there might be easier or more elaborate tutorials or "how to" postings - but this is my two bits on how to do it!

Here's how it works... simple really.... how would you respond to the following EIGHT random questions? Answer as extensively or lightly as you wish. Maybe some of us have more of interest in common then we realize?

1) Favorite music/performer?
2) Favorite dish?
3) Any Pets?
4) Any hobbies? Or how about substituting your greatest casual interests?
5) Any rants?
6) A surprising thing you've encountered, seen or experienced?
7) What region or city did you grow up in?
8) What are you "NOT"?

Kamy - I updated the webpage to add that you are celebrating Ryan & your birthdays....

As per hurricanes, as long as we can get onto the ship ontime...no worries!!! Last time I cruised was in Sept '05 and that was HUGE Hurricane season. We were actually on the 4 day Wonder and at Sea with Hurricane Rita. The only changes we had was that we spent that we didn't get into Nassau until just after noon. Since we had no excursions planned, this was no big deal for us. And they did switch our sea day/CC day. Many passangers (and crew members) had a hard time with sea sickness on night though since we were in VERY rough seas with 20+ foot waves. I took my dramamine the first instant I started feeling a bit queesy (since I can be prone to seasickness) and I was fine. I was just glad that we were on Deck 2 and not higher up on the ship since I have heard you feel it more the higher you are...

Lisa- You were on mine and my brother's first Wonder cruise.:thumbsup2 I was up on deck 6 and did get sick, I tossed my cookies once. I know TMI. I had taken Bonine but still got sick in the morning before we got to Nassau.

I have my fingers crossed for two Hurricane free cruises.:thumbsup2

Becky...

Great job on the big post!

Last night I was going thru some sites that do personal silicone bracelets. We could get DisGreen and anything we want debossed on it. I believe for 100 or so will run $1.50 each. I wish I had written all this down... my brain is a bit fried... it's HOT here... and so soon!:rotfl2:
I thought it might be a nice cruise meet and greet thing for all of us.
All we would need is a head count and a few to help with the cost. Im willing to do the work and mail them to everybody.
So is this something "we" might want to do???

Ann ....

Becky - Great job on compiling all that info in one post!!! That is such a coinsidence that we were on the Wonder together and now we will be on the Magic together too!!!! We shall hopefully meet on this cruise. When we went on the Wonder, I had just had my son in May when I realized we had never banked our DVC points and had a ton we has to use or loose so we booked the cruise in July. That was when I found the Disboards which just fueled my Disney obsession but I really didn't have alot of time to post on the cruise meets thread and traveling with a 4 month old and a 22 month old didn't really give us alot of time for any Dis Meets onboard....

Ann - DH & I would do bracelets or something like that if we all decided to do something like that.... Thanks for offering to put it together!!!!

Ok, here is an update for the cruise, we switched rooms from 7010 to 5512, we liked deck 5 since there aren't a whole lot of rooms and since we are taking her 5 year old son it will be easy to drop him off at the kids club. We were in room 5512 on our 2006 cruise and loved it. My dh was very disappointed to hear it is officially gone for this cruise.:lmao:

Great Lisa! I'll PM you with the few good sites for you to check out. Give me your opinion.
Anyone else want to help with the cost?

Now for the rest of the group!

How does everyone feel about a a group bracelet( The silicone kind)?
Dis Green perhaps? Any other color? Next thing... what do we want debossed on it?
And we need to know how many each of us want?

Ann

WOW!!!:thumbsup2 Great info! I am so glad to see it all together.....makes it easier! I know we want to participate in some things, but right now I am not sure what for sure. I better get planning!!!:rotfl:

Becky, great job with the long post! You seem to have got it all down!

We did t-shirts from Cafe press our last cruise, and they were great quality and selection...I didnt set it up, but a friend did, and she said it was incredibly easy after figuring out what art work we wanted.

The bracelets are an excellent idea also! My girls would love some, so if you are ordering, count us in to order also!

Also on the last cruise we did gifts to kids, at a small fee for the parents we set up a gift for the kids to get at the pre-cruise meet. So if anyone is interested, I'd be willing to take care of setting that all up!

It looks like we have a great list of cruisers, new and old! Cant wait till Sept.!
