1. Hot Chocolate or Egg Nog?
Hot chocolate

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
Santa usually wrapped presents. This year, "Santa" got to use all of the reusable cloth bags I made many years ago and he was thankful for how easy that was!
2006-christmas-020.jpg

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
Colored on the tree. None on the outside because that would probably mean falling off a ladder.

4. Do you hang mistletoe?
No

5. When do you put your decorations up?
Whenever we have time. This year we are barely decorating because we're in the rental and the kids and I will be gone for so long over Christmas

6. What is your favorite holiday dish?
Cheesy potatoes or the potato recipe from O'hana

7. Favorite Holiday memory?
Probably our first Christmas as a new couple--we couldn't wait until Christmas and opened our gifts way early! :)

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
Here's to my bad memory. I can't remember the details. I want to say I was in about 4th grade.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
With the kids we've always done family gifts to each other on Christmas Eve and Santa gifts on Christmas. The bulk was on Christmas Eve. Santa never really got them that much.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree?
Nearly every single ornament on it has a story or special meaning. We have very very few "mass marketed" ornaments

img-2871.jpg

img-2864.jpg

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
Don't mind it if I don't have to go out in it. I REALLY hated all of those Christmases where it was 38 degrees, cloudy and raining!

12. Can you ice skate?
Straight line, yes. Anything fancy, no.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
Nope.

14. What's the most important thing?
Jesus' birth

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert?
Dad's homemade apple pie.

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Opening our family gifts separate from Santa gifts and opening them one at a time while every one else watches. I can't stand the frenzied "rip into all the packages and no one can follow what's what"

17. What tops your tree?
A paper plate angel with brown yarn hair made by Nick in Sunday school when he was about 3
angel.jpg

18. Which do you prefer giving or Receiving?
Giving. By far. I love to see someone's reaction when we've found them the perfect gift!

19. What is your favorite Christmas Song?
Little Drummer Boy

20. Candy canes, Yuck or Yum?
Yuk.

Mary,

How was it downtown? Hope you made it through the day. I can't even imagine how cold it had to be down there.

Mary, I am a huge Survivor fan. I'm so glad of the outcome last night. He definitely deserved it I thought. The other two, not so much.

Well, have a nice Monday everyone and safe travels for those with the icy conditions. :flower3:

We are big fans as well, and were very happy that Bob won. Just not so happy with some of the comments the jury made.

Hi Mary :wave2:

Michael and I are huge Survivor fans!!!!! :thumbsup2 We're very happy that Bob won....:)

We love quite a few reality shows....Amazing Race, Survivor, American Idol, Top Chef and Big Brother. :happytv:

Have a great day.
Take care.......Monika :daisy:

Lots of Survivor fans. I couldn't get over the comments by some of the jury. No class at all. :sad1:

Monika - I'm not a big fan of Amazing Race but love all the others you mentioned.

It was very cold and very slippery downtown but I made it....and I'm done with Jury Duty! :dance3:I'm so happy that is over. To celebrate I even stopped by Garrett's popcorn (I know only Flo and Karen will get this).

So back to work tomorrow!

20. Candy canes, Yuck or Yum? YUMMY

Mary - the first DVC Member Mixer was so crowded - it was hard to maneuver thru and they only gave one treat and even gave you a ticket to be able to get it - the ticket was attached to your entry form. Only saw a few people I knew and it really wasn't worth the time IMHO. Music was way too loud and like I said before - way too many people.

Thanks Flo - Mark's car is outside as well so he's going to let it warm up before trying to scrape the windows. I'm really hoping this is my last day on the trial. Especially since tomorrow is our pot luck at work and I don't want to miss that since I already missed the holiday lunch.

Is anyone on the thread a fan of survivor? I am and really liked last nights show.

We are Survivor fans too! I'm glad Bob won and couldn't believe how bad the people on the jury were. Corinne reminded me of Gerri from several years ago and she loved being that way! How tacky. We like Amazing Race and sometimes Big Brother. I'm usually on the computer while watching TV or should I say "listening" to it. I like multi-tasking. :surfweb:

That pretty much sums up what I read on the DVC boards. That is a shame because I have such happy memories of past Merry Member Mixers. Remember hanging out in the back with all the DISers. I especially remember our first one in 2004 when I met our DVC friend David!:)

1. Hot Chocolate or Egg Nog? Hot chocolate (especially Dunkin Donuts White Hot Chocolate with whipped cream). Yummy!

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? Always wrap but as of right now there isn't one present under the tree! It's been difficult this year with me not being able to drive!

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? Colored & white lights.

4. Do you hang mistletoe? No & don't know why but we never have.

5. When do you put your decorations up? If it was up to DH it would be right after Halloween :rotfl: but he usually starts right after Thanksgiving.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish? This is a tough one. Honey Baked Ham, lasagna, turkey! They are all good.

7. Favorite Holiday memory? Going into Boston with my DGF. He would take my sisters and I to see the lights on Boston Common, the huge Christmas display at Jordan Marsh (I think it was called the Enchanted Village) and to look at all of the store windows decorated for the holiday. My DGF died a week after Christmas when I was 5 so I think that's why I treasure that the most.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I was about 4 years old and really wanted Baby Boo from Santa. She cried all the time if you didn't keep a pacifier or bottle in her mouth. :confused3 Anyway, I went down to the basement with my dad and saw Baby Boo's crib on the shelf so I knew right away but when Christmas morning came and the tag said from Santa I said NOPE and of course I couldn't keep the secret to myself and told all of the children in the neighborhood there wasn't any Santa and that parents bought the gifts. I'm sure all of the parents must've  me!

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? We let DS open a gift on Christmas Eve when he was younger. I'd always pick out which one and it was usually a video game or movie that would keep him busy for a few hours. lol

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree? Our tree is decorated with a variety of ornaments. Not a theme. There are some that my mother made for me years ago when she took pottery classes. Others are crystal or glass that I've had for over 25 years. There are even some that DS made while in pre-school. I love decorating it but am very sensitive and usually cry as I'm hanging some of them because they bring back special memories. We don't use tinsel or garland. We used to but for some reason stopped.

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? I love how it looks on the trees but dread driving in it and hate when it turns ugly and dirty.

12. Can you ice skate? The last time I did I was in Junior High and there was a rink attached to the school so everyone had to take ice skating once a week. I wasn't very good at it but always wanted to take lessons again to surprise DS who still plays hockey.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? Yes, Christmas 1986. That was the year DS was born and I found out I couldn't have any more children so DH had a ring made with my birthstone (2 opals) and DS' birthstone (2 amethysts) with a diamond chip in the middle. That is my most treasured gift.

14. What's the most important thing? Spending time with my immediate family (DH & DS) and having our extended families over for dinner and dessert. That's why I was so excited when DS said he had a few days off for the holiday. I couldn't imagine spending Christmas without him!

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? I make Custard Pie, Apple Pie, Sand and Dirt Cups for the children or young at heart.

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Having Christmas dinner at our house. Then all of us usually watch a movie or play a game before having dessert.

17. What tops your tree? An Angel

18. Which do you prefer giving or Receiving? I love to give! There is nothing better than watching people's faces as they open up a gift that they really wanted.

19. What is your favorite Christmas Song? Right now I don't have one since I can't sing. Not that I could before but now that I'm having problems with my speech, I don't really like listening right now.

20. Candy canes, Yuck or Yum?[/QUOTE] I can take them or leave them. We usually put Disney ones on the tree but this year, Tom found Gummy Bear ones.

1. Hot Chocolate or Egg Nog? Hot Chocolate (think Polar Express)

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? Always wrapped by the elves

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? Tree Multicolored,House always white with wreaths with red bows

4. Do you hang mistletoe? No, not sure why either:confused3

5. When do you put your decorations up? We usually let the cold weather dictate, best put up in a light snow

6. What is your favorite holiday dish? All of them:lmao:

7. Favorite Holiday memory? Seeing my daughters faces on Christmas morning

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?  :santa:

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Not at our house. We go to a rotating Christmas Eve with relatives, so yes the kids open gifts

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree? A penguin theme

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? SNOW!!

12. Can you ice skate? No:sad2:

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? No one particular gift

14. What's the most important thing? Birth of Christ

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? Fudge

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Christmas Eve with family

17. What tops your tree? Alternates, either a Star or a Penguin

18. Which do you prefer giving or Receiving? Giving

19. What is your favorite Christmas Song?Whatever my kids are singing!!

20. Candy canes, Yuck or Yum?Yuck

I haven't made it to one yet. It's just too far away! HA!

1. Hot Chocolate or Egg Nog? Yes. Hot chocolate for a non-alcoholic drink, and egg nog w/Myer's dark rum (must be my hidden pirate coming out) for a "happy" drink.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? They are wrapped by Santa's helper (guess who).

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? The colored ones just seem more holiday-ish to me.

4. Do you hang mistletoe? No

5. When do you put your decorations up? Thanksgiving weekend

6. What is your favorite holiday dish? Stuffing w/turkey gravy (using my mom's homemade stuffing recipe)

7. Favorite Holiday memory? Sitting my babies and grandbabies under the Christmas tree because they are the best presents.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I really don't remember.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? no

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree? We mix old ornaments that have memories attached w/newer ones (I like to get one new ornament each year, so my tree is pretty crowded).

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? Since I'm the one who usually has to shovel it, dread it. And hate driving around here in it (VA drivers have very little idea how to drive in snow).

12. Can you ice skate? I can skate backwards a little :rotfl:

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? As a child it was a stuffed dog I named Farfel. As an adult, it had to be the dainty diamond pendant my DH surprised me with.

14. What's the most important thing? Being together w/my family.

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? Anything w/custard or pudding.

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Watching each family member take turns unwrapping presents.

17. What tops your tree? A star

18. Which do you prefer giving or Receiving? Giving.

19. What is your favorite Christmas Song? Wonderful Christmastime by Paul McCartney. Hearing it makes me happy and puts me in the holiday mood.

20. Candy canes, Yuck or Yum? I'm neutral.

Flo,

Thanks for the wishes. They are on the way to our house right now to try and fix it! :cool1:

The only thing is we are getting a lot of snow right now. It has been snowing since 7:00 am and we are to get between 3-5 inches by tonight and then an ice storm on Thursday. So hopefully we will be back in business. Keep your fingers crossed.

Chris,

We are getting snow here right now. But we are only supposed to get 1 to 3 inches. But because we had ice the other day this is not good. The bottom of my drive is completly ice. I have the Christmas blow ups out side and they are frozen to the ground. They won't even come up.

Did they make it out to fix your internet? I hope so.

We are supposed to get a couple inches of snow tonight as well.

Have a good night everyone.
