This might be a bit off-topic (however, at over 10,000 posts...we're bound to be off topic somewhere!) but how many of you guys are DVC members? Do you like it? Have you found it to be a good deal?

DH and I have a DD who just turned 2 (on Halloween!) and we hope to be expecting another soon...so needless to say, I think we have a lot of Disney vacations ahead of us. In fact, we've talked about making the upcoming trip an annual thing.

DH and I own our own consulting company, so it affords us the luxury of being able to vacation whenever we want (being your own boss *does* have it's advantages) so we often score good deals during off-peak...so if I compare those deals with DVC...is it still worth it?

Sorry so long!

We bought into DVC on our cruise last December and wish that we had done it 15 years ago!

I believe (IMHO) that it is worth it and I know that it has enhanced my Disney experience. :woohoo:

Count us in too. We booked when the good gty. rates first came out and are waiting for the upgrades. This will be our 3rd Disney cruise. We have been on 2 westerns and this will be our first eastern. We are Disney addicts since 1973. We are celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary.

Come on upgrades. :dance3: :hourglass

:woohoo: It's getting crowded on the Magic with DISers. :woohoo:

Welcome aboard! :thumbsup2

I keep getting this randomly today too and it's also the first time I've ever seen it. So I think they're definitely shuffling us around today.

Maybe tomorrow will bring stateroom numbers :)

Good luck on finding a "home away from home" onboard. The uncertainty of not knowing my stateroom number/location would be driving me crazy.

I was going through my closet the other nite trying to figure out what to pack. I came across the dress I wore to our DS's bar mitzvah. I tried it on (I haven't worn it in 11 years), and it FIT!! Granted, not as well as it did then. So I think I have my dress for formal nite. THen I got to thinking, do you think they purposely make formal nite the second nite so that people will be able to fit into their clothes!!! After all, how much can you eat in just 1 night!! :rotfl:

 How did you like the Western cruises? We would like to try it sometime. :cloud9:

I don't know for sure, but I bet a bunch of us plan on putting that question to the test and finding out!! :lmao:

I totally understand. Can't wait to meet you! :goodvibes

Awwww...thank you!! I can't wait to meet you guys too! Everyone just forgive me now...I no longer have any memory for names. I hit 40 and my brain just died  .

This cruise is going to be soooo much fun. I enjoyed our first one with the kids in August..but it was so short. Both DD11 and DS6 know we are going on the magic, and DS said mommy I hope you have alot of fun on the Magic. Tell me all about it so I know for the next time when we all go  .

Can I ask why you are so sure this is going to be you one and only DCL cruise??

Yeah that came out a lot uglier than I meant it to. Let me explain.

Next year, we are flying to Denver, renting an RV and driving up to see Mt. Rushmore and Devil's Tower the week before Memorial Day. Then we have a cruise planned for 14 days through the PC in October of that same year.

For 2009, we are flying to New Zealand and Australia for a three week summer vacation where we are meeting friends on our first cruise who live in the literal outback.

In 2010 for Thanksgiving, we have a Mediterranean cruise planned as well as spending time in Greece with a friend we know whose husband was a captain for Celebrity.

By that time the new ships will be out, but unless there is something new offered besides the Caribbean, we won't be back. We might consider the southern, but otherwise we have been to St. Maarten and Cozumel before.

I hope that makes sense. We are trying to see the world before it gets much harder than it is in the primary grades to miss some school. We want her to have seen the places she will one day be studying.

I know its not gourmet food, but I really liked the chicken tenders out by the pool at Pluto's Dog House. :thumbsup2 They were so yummy. I felt like a kid eating them. Everything just tasted so much better eating it outside and I DIDN'T HAVE TO COOK IT! :rotfl:

This is all a complete guess on my part, but I'm thinking they might offer the Cat 12 gty until the ship is a certain percentage full. They know not everyone who books it is gonna end up in one since they only have thirteen of them. But getting someone in and bumping them up, even at a Cat 12 gty rate, is still better than the cabin sitting empty and them not getting any money at all.

I think once they get to that percentage full, they probably "cut their losses" and go back to only taking reservations on higher categories hoping someone will actually book at a higher rate. I'm sure the bean counters have it all worked out as to when the ship is making money versus losing money considering fuel, food, salaries, etc.

Just my guess!

I think that it is a safe bet that Disney KNOWS how to make money and not lose it. :thumbsup2

All I have to do is think of how much I WANT to give Disney my money. I can't wait! :woohoo:

 Speaking of the "Big Red Ship", has anyone on here been on Disney way back when they had those "Big Red Boats"? Just curious what they were like.

- Jennifer

*Raises Hand* I was.. with my ex :scared:

DS was 5 and it was our 5th Anniversary..

They had all the LooneyTunes Characters on the Ship and Not a single Disney one. I never knew Disney owned it.. I thought it was something to do with Looney Tunes :confused3 shows ya how much I pay attention.. :rolleyes1

A HUGE.. Tweetybird came to our room and tucked in DS, signed his shirt and gave him a Tweeybird Stuffed toy.. DS was in Heaven :cloud9: He was sooo excited.. Tweety just fit into the room he was so big..

We have pictures in a Scrapbook of DS with the characters.. I know we went to some Islands and the water and beaches were amazing.. but I don't remember which ones..

I do remember it was alot like Disney.. The people, The friendly Staff, the familes, the endless food and the whole sha-bang.. We got Napkin animals for DS each night..

On a completely unrelated note, I cannot explain my reaction to Keith Urban. Ok, so he's Aussie. Ok, so he can sing really well. Ok, so he's kinda hot. These things are not usually things that affect me a great deal. Well, maybe the Aussie part.

But there is something about that man that makes me think I could just eat him up with a spoon.

ETA: I'm watching CMT if that wasn't apparent.... :o

 TMI

I know what you mean!!!! I was looking on the DCL Photos of Food thread last night and there was a sandwich that looked like it came from Topsiders or SOMEWHERE from outside the restaurants and it looked like a grilled chicken sandwich on an over-sized hot dog bun where the chicken was cut up into pieces. Actually..... I went and found it. Even the hot dog looks good!!!

ONE MONTH!!!!!

You know, it's funny--everything about this vacation has been pixie dusted! It's as though it's just meant to be. I will never know what made me check the passports, because I just "knew" that we had gotten them in 1998, right around the time that I had some major dental work done. Jim had to go to the same dentist today, and guess what--that work was done in 1997!

Things are just working out well--the lower price, the passports, the fact that "the kids" will be able to join us for so much of the vacation, the great air fare that we got which enabled us to spend an extra day at WDW, and yesterday Jim got a bonus at work! It's not much, but it will pay for an extra visit or two to the Cove Cafe. Now, if I can make my luck hold out and hit a good-sized jackpot in Atlantic City next week, I'll buy all of you an extra beverage at the Cove Cafe!

Beth

Here's wishing more pixie dust your way! :wizard:

Ooh, thanks. I have a 2MB memory card in my digital camera, so I'm hoping I don't need to download during the trip. :rotfl:

It would be nice if Disney offered the pictures taken by Shutters staff on CD though. Not only would you not have to worry about them getting bent on the way home, but you could also print any size you wanted.

Thanks for checking that for me!

I have a 4GB, a 2GB and three 1GB cards plus a few 512MB ones. I will still need to download my photos before I get home.

As an adult educator I have to say, :sad2: Between you and Brack I'm going to make sure any trainings for which I am responsible in the future take place in a lead vault!! ;)

:lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :teacher:

LOL, well I was really good on my first cruise. I wasn't going to eat until I was over full!! I was gonna stop, and I did. I felt, if I was hungry, there was food everywhere. I think if I get to eat at Palo's for dinner that might be a problem, but I am gonna do my best!!! Especially since we are not going to WDW afterwards to walk it all off!!! I also plan on indulging on those yummy drinks of the day :woohoo: .
