06/24/2006 - Special Western Cruise - Who Else!?

I am thinking of making a door magnet that says something like the Double Dippers Cruise. Any better thoughts of what we should call ourselves? If you want a magnet (it will take me time to get it all together) PM me your address and I'll send one your way when they are done. :teeth:

Did anyone ever decide on a final design or name for this group? I like the idea of a DIS door magnet and would proudly display it on our room doors. :tigger:

I forgot to mention we are in room 5502. I'm not so excited as I would rather have had one closer to the middle of the ship. My son gets motion sickness quite regularly.

Jiminy, I too get very, very motion sick. As long as I take my less drowsy dramamine everyday, I do pretty well unless it is stormy or very rocky. Last cruise it was so rocky that there was a wave pool. That is actually where I stayed the ENTIRE day. I didn't feel sick as long as I was in the pool. Remember that the theater is the worst place to go if you are sick, especially when the curtains start to sway!!!

SPJ, I like the idea of the magnets as well. Unfortunately, Angie was going to do them and she had to cancel her cruise. I wouldn't mind taking over. I know that disney has a paint line and their paint "swatches" are shaped like mickey heads in lime-green!!! I could glue them on a magnet. Now, if anyone else would like to do it or add, you won't be stepping on my toes!!!!

I know what you mean about being an expert even though you haven't been on the cruise. I've been on 3, but I remember asking DCL some questions and they didn't seem to know where I was getting my info!!!! When I mentioned the disboards, I'm sure the cm was thinking, oh great it's one of those!!!!

Jiminy, I am one who can't ride in the back of a car or even look at the teacup ride. I took Bonine starting the night before the cruise and didn't have any issues. Your son should be able to take it. It is just not recommended for those under 12. Also, have him eat alot of apples. The pectin in the skin is supposed to help.

BB-I've never heard of the apple remedy. I'll have to try that one!

I've also heard of smelling rubbing alcohol. I don't know how safe that is though. I have little alchohol squares in packages but I keep forgetting to try it.

I learned about the apples from the crew on the Norway when I cruised with my mom 20 years ago. The seas were so rough that I was thrown out of my bed one night! My mom and I grabbed apples whenever they had them out. They did seem to help. I didn't need to use them on the Wonder as the seas were calm and the Bonine worked! It also helped that our cabin was right above the stabilizers. We are staying in the same cabin on the Magic so I can be exactly mid- ship!

Apples it is!!!

Did everyone receive their cruise booklet? It is pretty cool with excursions, gifts and so on in it. I haven't had time to read through it though, it is late so maybe it will heop get me to sleep!!!!

We have had a change to our group--my brother and his wife have decided not to go, along with their daughter and oldest son. The 2 teen boys will be staying with us now.

Anyone have any information on Costa Maya? Where have I read about disease scares there?

Beth

BethA, that's too bad about the smaller group.

On page 25 ( believe) of this thread is a list for things to do at CM. Hopefully you should get your vacation guide from DCL soon.

Personally, we are headed to Maj. Beach. The only excursion that "floats my boat" :lmao: is the clear kayak excursion. It is at Maj. Beach. I'm hoping by then we can just go and rent the kayaks. Right now you can only do this through DCL. :(

I haven't heard of any diseases at this time. I believe I did hear that you can not give blood for a year. Not sure if that is true or not. I can not give blood anyway so.....

Yeah! I got my vacation guide! I didn't get one when we went on the Wonder? We may do the Chacchoben Mayan Ruins. I will probably pay more and do it through Disney as I am paranoid that something will happen and we will get left at Costa Maya if we do a tour on our own. My DD has finally agreed to try Castaway Ray's. She is afraid of the stingrays as she thinks they sting, but I explained that these have had their barbs trimmed and they are trained. I hope Disney CM's can also calm her fears. At Cozumel we are waiting to see if Dolphin Discovery gets up and running, if not we may just go do mini-golf and wander. The only bad news is that I need to pay in full By 3/26 istead of 4/10 in order to book the 90 days out. I was hoping for another payday (3/31), but oh well!

Bairdbeth, the planners are really nice. I don't know if these are new or not.

Mini golf is one of those things on my list. It will depend on how tired we are after our snorkel trip.

I don't blame you for being cautious when booking excursions outside of DCL. I know at Coz. we have a long stay so I'm ok with that one. At CM, we are just going to the Maj Beach 2 miles down the road and we could walk if we really wanted to.

Hello everyone - I've been reading all of your posts, soaking up all the information. I got my excursion book too. I'm wondering what everyone thinks about not booking through Disney and just taking a taxi to the beach in Costa Maya or even using Costa Maya Excursions. We're not doing anything but the beach and Disney is soooo expensive and i've paid those prices before --- not really looking to do it again. I've never been to Cozumel but from what I've heard from co-workers you can take a taxi to the beach for about $20 - rent chairs, etc. and there are restaurants right on the beach, etc.

I'll save my money for Castaway for whatever the kids want to do there - since we'll be there twice I don't think I want to sit on the beach all day 2 times!

All your thoughts & comments would be helpful.

Barbara

We've got ressies with an outside diving company at Coz. DCL is way over priced. And that's exactly what we are doing at CM. $5 pp roundtrip taxi ride to Maj. Beach a few minutes from port.

We were about to be page 3 so here is a bump! There is a chance of winter weather here tomorrow. Can't wait until June!

Winter weather?!?! I just finished snow plowing our drive way. We had snow drifts that were 4 to 6 ft in height. DW thought she could drive our minivan through one and got stuck. :rotfl2: :lmao: I'll trade our winter weather with yours if you want. :rotfl2:

We've been waiting for our storm!!!

yesterday morning (6am) there were warnings "your county has been issued as an EMERGENCY status." Uh, they might want to wait until it actually snows!!! At that time, it was raining and 40!!!

Let's see this morning, I can still see the grass!!!

Either way, I'm dreaming of a warm CC!!!

SPJammer,no thanks on the trade. No way could Atlanta handle that much snow! I do miss some snow as I was brought up in Dayton, Ohio. But, jeesh!, one snowflake down here and there is a rush on bread and milk! :confused3

Hi everyone,

My DH John (42 - Pediatrician), myself, Carole (42 - SAHM) and my two DDs Rachel (12) an Tessa (9) are also booked for this sailing. I have to admit that we are waffling about keeping the reservation. The airfare from Las Vegas is pretty expensive this time around. I keep thinking that it would be so much cheaper to go out of LA on another cruise line, but then again it wouldn't be Disney. The kids really want to go though, so we probably will keep the reservation. John's parents live in Boca Raton so we may try to stay with them a few days as well.

Has everyone booked their air yet? If so, is anybody coming from the west coast?

Hopefully we will get to meet some of you on ship!

Carole

Hi Carole :wave2: and welcome to our thread! I hope you decide on defininitely sailing with us, we're going to have lots of fun. Yes, I have had our flights booked (family of 5, coming from Boston) since last July. I book very early to get the lowest rates, it works like a charm every year. We paid about 170.00 round trip. I wish you lots of luck getting great rates and hope to see you in June! :thumbsup2
