05/09/2009 May 9, 2009 7-Night Eastern St Maarten... Watch Out!

Sweet, then I guess we will be watching out for each other, to ensure neither is knocked overboard by a swinging Boom!

Consider yourself updated on the front page now :upsidedow I guess all the excitement of the cruise and all the chatter on the thread I just lost track.:mic:
You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. I'm not sure exactly WHY I cared, but now that we're on your list, it feels so much more like we're actually going.

Can you please start several more lists so that we can get on those as well?
I think I need more affirmation of my Disney personhood...yup, definitely need more affirmation. :jester:

Totally understand, its nice to feel wanted
Can you tell I got dragged to Hotel for Dogs this past weekend by DW and the kiddies??:rolleyes2

WOW we are over 500 posts now on this thread! Maybe we will hit 1000 before we sail!?!

Just thought I would stop by and post an update on our plans as of now...

We have booked our flights and I paid less then 120.00 pp ROUND TRIP:cheer2: :cheer2: !!!! We are coming in on the 8th and have rented a car from MCO to the port We plan to drop it off that night after hitting the store and getting dinner. We will be staying at the Radison and taking advantage of the transportation to the port and the breakfast that comes with our room. Our flight home leave on the 16th so again we rented a car from Port to MCO and have a 6pm flight. We may take some time and just drive around for a bit... All in all with flight, room and rental cars we paid less than 700.00 for all four of us. Now I am on to plan my spa, excursions and Palo dinner, brunch and what ever else I can get... Oh yeah WE SAIL IN 104 DAYS!!!!!!:cheer2: :cheer2:

With such a short time before we sail I was just wondering who might want to do a Fish extender and Secret Mickey? If you would like to do this please PM and on Friday I will let everyone know how many are willing and see if it is worth putting it together.

WOW that is a sweet airfare rate, with who?? Being a Buckeye, I try to stay out of Michigan all I can- but that may be too good to pass up ;) It sounds like your plans are really coming together nicely- and at not much of a cost out of pocket!

I am ready to go with my booking stuff too, mainly Palo and the 12 meter regatta excursion at this point. DW and MIL may decide they want some spa stuff booked too as the date nears.

I finally surrendered my card info to the travel agent to make our final payment for the cruise this week- feels wonderful! So to keep things rolling with the planning excitement, I called Hyatt today and booked a room for the 8th at the Hyatt MCO. It will be so nice to hop off the plane and right to our room to relax and swim on top of the airport! I was happy to lock in the lowest price I could find for the night- $135 (with tax I think) via a Stay certificate. If it happens to show up on Hotwire before hand I will just cancel the Hyatt.com reservation and grab it from Hotwire to save a little more.
:cool1: :cheer2: :cool1:

I was asking some questions on another thread about the fuel surcharge. I purchased our cruise in October 2008 and the people who replied said I paid the fuel surcharge and they will decide in mid March if we get our money back as a credit. It would be great to get some extra cash on our account. :)

I spoke to dcl several weeks ago about the fuel charge and they told me that we would be getting it back in the form of a stateroom credit. I sure hope that is still the case cause that would be nice to have extra spending money!

Well, this cruise just got really great for me and my friends!

I work for a major airline and DCL will offer special Interline rates for us from time to time. It is great if you are able to go "last minute". WELL...last week our cruise appeared on the interline rate list I get emailed to me. I figured it would be an "oh well" thing. So, I was calling DCL to see about changing our cabin since some others in our Cat. 10 had opened up as available on line.

You know when you get a phone agent who you can tell from their voice is going to be helpful? Well, I got that agent. So, I just mentioned that it was now available that way and asked if DCL ever had a way to convert an existing reservation to an interline reservations. He said:

"Absolutely!"

I fall out of my chair. Especially when he was able to drop our price by about $600 AND change us from a Category 10 to a Category 5!!! :cool1:
Anyway...I am now SUPER pumped for the next 100 days or so to pass!!

How nice to have some onboard credit waiting for you from DCL! I will have to double check my reservation to see if we have a fuel charge or not. I dont think so because we booked in Dec 07, but I am going to check just in case!

hi.. ok so I am really confused and my travel agent doesn;t have all the information I need. She told me that transfers were included in the price to and from the airport... but we are going to fly in the night before and proably stay in Orlando or does anyone recommend staying closer , so how do we get from the hotel to the port? and coming home we have a 12:30 flight, so how do we get from the port back to the airport.. i am so confused so any help would be appreciated.

thanks!

I think (don’t quote me since their site is down I cant double check) that you can check to see if you have DCL transfers included in your reservation on the DCL website if you look up your reservation details. If you have a paper copy of the DCL reservation it should say near the bottom “transfers” and tell if they were accepted our declined. Even with having an agent, you may be able to give DCL a call and just let them know you are having trouble getting the info from your agent and just wanted to confirm if you have transfers included or not.

You can always add them to the reservation if they are not on there, you would have to catch the bus the following morning at the Airport or a Disney Hotel. You also have the option to cancel them if you want up to a certain date. We personally choose to use a car service to get us around when we don’t want to rent a car or dont have MILs vehicle.

Looks like there are about 6 of you in the party so that would be $414 to have the DCL bus transfers roundtrip.

As an example for other options: We are having a suburban transfer us from MCO to Port then Port to Disney then Disney to Port for less then that price above, including tip.

If you want me to check with our driver to see if they have a partner to recommend to you, I will be happy to… Just let me know. :)

You may want to check out the HappyLimo.com site to get an idea on base pricing for different options from the airport area to port and back again. Looks like a Suburban would be $265 roundtrip plus tip and whatever tolls they charge or a stretch limo would be $330 Roundtrip plus tip and whatever tolls.

There is also TiffanyTowncar.com that gets mentioned a good bit on the boards. They look to be $384 RT with fees based on their website for a strectch limo for up to 8 people.

Always keep in mind there will be more luggage limits when in a suv/limo/van vs. a bus, though DCL may be limiting the amount of bags you can take these days too?

Now in regards of where to stay the night before… We are staying in the Hyatt right inside the airport for $135 for the night via a Stay certificate. That room holds up to 4 adults. There are also numerous hotels around the airport that have a free shuttle to the hotel and back to the airport (if you want to catch the DCL bus) and you can book with the hotel directly or via Hotwire or PriceLine to snag a better deal.
We usually stay near the port or at Disneyworld (once) the night before cruising, but this time we just decided to stay in the airport and so far are happy with the decision. You can have the car service you get pick you right up at your hotel and drive you the 50 minutes or so to port the next morning. It’s a smooth quick drive so no need to make sure you are staying by port the night before.

If you decide you want to stay by port the night before there are a bunch of hotel options some with beach access and many without. Many of the hotels now offer a shuttle service to the port in the morning and most charge a few dollars per person. I know the Radisson near the port has a free shuttle for people that stay there and there may be another hotel or two that has free shuttle.
You can have a car service drive you down there and drop you off at the hotel Friday then use a shuttle or taxi to port the next morning.
You can also rent a van at the airport and drive it to the hotel near port and then drive everyone over to the port the next morning and have one person return the rental and grab their shuttle back to port to meet up with the rest of the party. You could also keep the rental while cruising and park it at port- but there is a $15 per day charge to park.

I don’t know that there is a real good reason to stay near port vs. the airport the night before unless you have a hotel with beach access and will have time to use it or have a car to drive around the area. Oh, and I guess the biggest plus is you would be 5-10 minute drive to port the next morning vs. an hour by the airport.
I think it is a more of a toss up when deciding to stay in Disneyworld for the day before to hit up some parks if you are arriving early vs. staying by Port to be close to the ship.

For the flight home: I think a DCL bus can get you there in time for the 12:30 flight without a problem, or so I have read on the boards, if you just try to make sure to get to breakfast early the next morning then off the ship. I would feel a bit safer knowing I had a driver or a rental waiting for me at port when I step out of the terminal to shoot me over to MCO for the flight home… but that’s just me and the DCL likely would be fine for a 12:30 flight I think.

wow... just realized how much I wrote hopefully it makes some sense! :)

You know what would be great? If we actually had someone with a lot of knowledge on different Disney cruise and travel facts on this discussion thread...maybe someone who could provide a ton of information at one fell swoop...
But where, oh where, will we find such an individual...?
Hmmm...

Let me know when we find said person, I think I have a couple of questions to ask them! ;)

I do want to apologize if I overwhelmed anyone with my lengthy message yesterday. I just got into a grove of typing what I was thinking and WHAMO that’s what I ended up with a few minutes later!

I just saw this posted on the FAQ thread in case anyone is interested in recent dining rotations:
7 day Eastern Cruises [per 1/3/09]
LAPLAPL 5:30 and 8:00
APLAPLA 5:45 and 8:15
PLAPLAP 6:00 and 8:30

We requested at 8pm seating with our travel agent, so if all stays the same by the time we sail and we get our request, we will be eating in Lumiere's too much and missing the first night of Animators :sad1:

ALSO- I noticed the newest SWA Ding fares are running up till the end of April for some flights to various locations. Keeping fingers crossed May Dings start showing up soon and include our flights! Anyone else flying SWA, dont forget to keep your eyes open as the weeks progress!
:surfweb:

Newbie here.... what does all that mean? I thought there were only 2 dinner seatings (early and late)??? I'm so confused :crazy2: Just when I got the WDW FAQs down I come to DCL and have to start all over :confused3
We have the late seating so not sure what that means for us as far as dining rotation goes. Also, when is a good day to go to Palo? I just got my Passporter in the mail today so I have to start reading up on all this!! I may be new but am very excited and am anxious to start the planning process :)

Welcome Aboard!!pirate: Ok I will try to not to go overboard this time writing! ;)
You are right early and late dinner seating, but within those there are couple of staggered seating times. I think this is so the kitchen doesn’t get slammed all at once *as much*.
We also have late seating. We wont know until we get to port what dining rotation and time we actually have. Its a fun little surprise from disney:lmao:

Palo, oh boy that may be a hard call especially if you haven’t sailed DCL before and want to catch all that is Disney onboard (aka all of the different menus in the dining rooms for dinner.) We have decided we will go to Palo on the second night for three main reasons
1) It will be mothers days so the two moms I am sailing with will get a real treat to eat for their big day
2) Most of my party isn’t all that keen on the Golden Mickeys menu in the dining rooms that night and would prefer the Palo menu over it
3) Its formal night on Sunday and the ladies didn’t want to drag along anything too fancy- not that you exactly have to for Formal night. They still need to dress nice for Palo but don’t feel like they have to dress up "as much" as if they were in the dining rooms for Formal night.

I would say if you want to do Palo, maybe an idea is to check out the various sample menus and see which one you like least and go to Palo that night? Also keep in mind you can always go to Palo for an early seating and skip the show that night and then go to your normal dining room at your scheduled time too and eat yourself out of house and home!:crowded:

Enjoy your new Passporter!

One other note on choosing the night - since it's my first cruise, I'm going to do everything in my power to be in Animators Palate on the first A night of my rotation since that is the only night they do the show. I will schedule Palo (somehow) around that if I can.

Thank you Scottie!!! I will do exactly that and see which menu I like the least and schedule Palo for that night. I think you have a good idea doing it on Sunday (Mother's Day) I keep forgetting that we will be sailing on MD -- I may even schedule myself a spa treatment on that day just to make sure I take full advantage of celebrating "my day" :thumbsup2 I am with the gals in your group... not really into dressing all that fancy on Formal Night, so maybe we will see you at Palo on Sunday :)

MouseNDaHouse: I take it from your post that AP only does the show on the first night that you are there? Is that right?

Sorry... no more questions.... I am off to read my passporter. I will come back more knowledgeable :flower3:
