HI,

I just on WDW web site and the calender says EPCOT closes @ 3:00pm on May 5. I know that's the beginning of the "Happiest Celebration", but just curious as to why the park is closing so early.

thanks for the info

Private party for invited media. MGM is closing early on 5/4 for the same reason.

Please also note that Main Street at MK will be closed to guests on May 5 from park open through about 1pm, for a photo shoot and various VIP events. Guests will access the Lands of MK via side routes, through shops, and possibly via backstage, led by CMs. Please be patient if you're planning a visit to MK that morning!

Actually according to the cards posted back stage, guests will be directed down the sidewalks. Get there early and head directly for the train which will be running during the event.

I really don't see it as that much of an inconvenience. There have been ample warnings (here on this board as well as elsewhere online and on property), and really ... most people rush up Main Street in the morning to get to the Lands anyway. And it's not as though the parade is cancelled or Main Street is closed all day. Not to mention the fact that many guests enjoy the extra bit of "backstage magic" that they get by being ushered in via alternate routes or seeing the celebs and being part of the celebration. I think your sarcasm was uncalled for.

In a perfect world, yes. :) But I think the actual routes will be based on crowd levels. It wouldn't surprise me if they ended up using a backstage route for a couple of hours in the morning. Should be fun!

Just got back and there are tent set up all around MGM and EPCOT for the press events this week.

Actually - Walt Disney had always used the press to promote & fund his Theme Parks. That philosophy hasn't changed, nor is it bound to anytime soon. It has been a very useful tool for TDC.
