04/27/11 DCL's WONDERful LA-VANCOUVER REPO ON THE WAY TO ALAKSA

Thanks for the info Randall!

So, who is dressing up for pirate night? I bought a costume a couple of yrs ago, but I don't want to wear it if the trend has kind of gone away? pirate:

How about formall night? Jim hates wearing a tux - runs to the room to change immediately after dinner - seems like a waste to rent one - what I saw in 2005 was that alot of guys just wear shirts and ties - anyone seen a trend lately?

Jason and I will definitely have pirate costumes....and if there are two pirate nights (one on the repo and one on Alaska) then we will have slightly different costumes for each one (like we did on our recent B2B Med & WBTA).

As for formal night....we are definitely tux wearers.....of course we wear shirts and ties to dinner every night. Those who have cruised with us before know that Jason and I are kind of (in)famous for our Disney ties and tuxedo sets----we wear a different set of matching and/or coordinating (by character) Disney ties every night of the cruise...and never repeat....and I have a bunch of custom made tuxedo sets (bowties and vests or cummerbunds) that I made myself. (I should note that the ONLY time we wear ties or dress up at all is on DCL cruises----we NEVER dress like that at home)

So, yeah----Jason and I definitely dress up! :thumbsup2

Erik...are you and Jason on early or late dining? (please be late, please be late, please be late)....I want to see your ties and tuxes!!!! My Mom made our good friend Joe (DisneyPinDiva's DH) a vest using Animator's Palate material for one side and we hand made/stamped B&W Mickey head material for the reverse side so Joe had a reversable vest just like the servers in Animator's Palate and she also made two bow ties, one that matched the B&W material and the other using the Animator's Palate material.

I will be dressing up for Pirate Night...I have a really KEWL costume that my crafty Mom made for me...I doubt she will be dressing up.

We are doing the paid in full dance!:yay:
Alaska cruise is on DVC points so held off on this cruise until we got close to our booking date. Now I can stay up until midnight on the 11th to book on the 12th. Guess I will be going into work late!! Its ok my boss is a Disney fan thank goodness!

You better keep that vest as far away from me as possible....or I might steal it!! :lmao:I have been trying to get my hands on animator's fabric...OR get a dining staff to sell me their uniform right off their back so that I can make neckties or vests----it was a running joke for our entire month-long cruise wiht our head server and serving team that they would slip me their vests and ties or put them in our fish extender LOL----but DCL keeps a very close watch on those uniforms and that fabric hasn't been sold to the public in ages. On our very first DCL cruise every YEARS ago, they were selling a small bolt of that fabric in a silent auction outside the Buena Vista Theater but that was before I had the idea to make us formal wear and to wear Disney ties on the cruises...so I didn't bother to get the fabric (plus if I remember correctly, it sold for what amounted to about $80/yard). Now in retrospect I wish I had gotten it....I would pay a fortune at this point for even just a yard or two of that fabric!:scared1:

(Although, I do have to say that for this cruise we should have one of a kind Golden Mickey Tuxedo sets. We had intended to finish making them to bring on our recent Med/WBTA on the Magic....but they got rid of that show and replaced it with Villains Tonight (yuck!:headache:)...so we didn't need the vests & bowties...but I'm pretty sure that we will get Golden Mickeys on these cruises so one of my goals is to get those tuxes finished to bring).

OK...so on to your initial question...yes we are late dining...so you should get to see our ties. (Another tip I'll give you in case you miss us one night...is that Jason and I shutters photography addicts :thumbsup2....we usually buy the CD or at least a lot of prints...and we take pictures with lots of characters and with every background....so on past cruises I've had many people tell me that they "keep up" with our tie collection by looking for our pictures on the walls in Shutters!:rotfl2:)

Oh, I think I knew that about you two! :goodvibes We were scheduled for the DD Western in 2008 with you, and then bagged and went to Puerto Vallarta instead. (mistake, but oh well!)

P.S. Not to mention, your siggie pic kind of gives it away! LOL!

Hey thanks! I don't want to be the only one. Jim won't dress up too much, I can probably get him to wear a new POC T-shirt and his Goofy Ears pirate hat!pirate:

Update on getting to the WDM. I spoke with a couple of friends who live and/or in San Francisco and the only public transportation to the Persideo where the WDM is located is the bus and you have to change busses. So if you are going on your own a taxi is the way to go. They are always around the pier. My BFF also said we are likely to dock around pier 39 for those of you familiar with the City, however if there is more that one passenger ship in town the alternate location is further away from Fisherman's warf more towards AT&T Park. I have have shared before I am still bumbed that the World Champion San Francisco Giants will be playing in DC. That means I miss then twice once in SF and in DC.

I can just see my parents' faces when I explain that I have to stalk Shutters looking for pictures of men in ties...

Thanks for the info on the attire for the cruises. We don't go all out on the pirate stuff, but I do have a pirate shirt and a dress for my daughter. She usually wears costumes for dinner. I figure, if an adult has an excuse to dress up, they really should take it, lol.

For those of you at Disneyland beforehand or near the resort, does anyone have any idea about the construction at the Disneyland Hotel? We're scheduled to stay there, for nostalgia and b/c my daughter liked the idea of the Neverland pool, but I'm kind of worried about the construction. On the other hand, we go to the World all the time and they are always doing hotel construction and it has never bothered us. We were at the French Quarter when they were in the middle of a total rennovation and had no idea. Just didn't want to be taken out of the magic by a bunch of scaffolding, ya know? We could move to the Grand Californian, but that just doesn't say Disney for me (though it is lovely, don't get me wrong).

Great info :thumbsup2 Thanks for posting.

We are on the Repo only.

We are going to be a GCV from 4/24-27 and are still interested in the DIS bus, if that's still an option.

This is my first trip to DL so I am really excited :yay:

We've decided to spend disembarkation day in Vancouver site seeing and then take the Amtrak 5:45 PM train to Seattle.

Anyone else taking the evening train? :confused3

I just checked the Beach Blanket Babylon website and tickets for the 8PM show on April 29th will go on sale next Monday, January 10th. :yay:

Yes...in our pic in our signature that is our 101 Dalmations set....that is one of the first I made for us several years ago. I need to upload some of the pics of our recent cruise where we unveiled our Tinkerbell and Disney Princess sets! (We even got some great portraits taken with the princesses wearing our Princess tuxes!).

Some of our ties and tux sets have fun stories to go with them, too----and just to give those of you don't really know us that well (yet) how sassy we are (and those who DO know us will probably support "sassy" as a good descriptor! :lmao:)....here's two fun stories:

#1 This story is actually about the Dalmation tux sets in our pic. When I first started making our ties and tux sets, it was hard to find nice silk and/or satin sheen fabric with Disney characters that would make nice formal and semi-formal wear....so I started not just looking for fabric but for other items that were MADE out of nice fabric (I looked at pajamas, shirts, curtains, shower curtains, robes, etc. always looking for something unique). The dalmation tie and cummerbunds were originally a woman's teddy (that's right----a sexy lace trimmed undergarment!) that I cut up to salvage the fabric to make our formal wear. So whenever you look at that picture of us...or if you see us in that set (although we won't be wearing that on this trip, I already know) you can remind yourself that we're basically wearing women's undergarments around our neck!! :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: (And I've often pondered exactly who thought creating sexy lingerie in cute Disney fabric was a good design/marketing strategy! ;))

#2 On our most recent cruise, we wore our Disney princess tuxed osets which have ties and vests and they are made of a pink satiny fabric with Snow White, Aurora, Belle, and Cinderella on them. We even have matching button-studs with the princess' faces on them. They're quite fancy!! While we had them on we were walking through the hall on Deck 3 with our friend, Kimmy, and a CM (Dave from Australia) when who should we encounter in the hallway? Princess Aurora!! I immediately pointed out our tuxedos to her and asked her to take a picture with us...and she did. And while we were talking to her, she very innocently said, "Those are just beautiful! Where did you get those? Did a fairy make those for you?" And I proudly said, "No, no...I made them myself!".....and then after just a second's thought, I corrected myself, "So, actually, YES....a 'fairy' DID make them for us!!" Kimmy and Jason and Dave and I all started laughing hysterically and Aurora just stood there speechless trying very hard not to laugh and keep her composure. It's one of my favorite memories from that trip....as silly and sassy as it was!! (And....I should say that later in the cruise we saw another CM...a female who told us she was a very good "friend" (and who looked remarkably like her, actually :lmao: ;););) ) of Aurora's who told us that Aurora had "told her the story" about those vests and that she was still laughing about it because it was so funny!)

Yes, we are going to do the same. If you didn't see my earlier post, they have luggage storage availability at the port. We are heading in to Stanwood instead of Seattle, I think, to see my DSIS for a couple of days.

I just wanted to say hi to everyone here as we'll be going on the Repo cruise this April.

If you have any questions about Vancouver, feel free to ask. I'll try my best to help out!
