Hi, I posted early in this thread but haven't been around much to update (holidays and stuff, and a new puppy). Our cruising cast is myself and fiance. We're getting married Nov 09 but because of 2 other weddings and my sister's new baby (due in Feb) all our vacation days (as well as money) will be used up after we get married so we decided to wait until the new year when vacations starts over to take our honeymoon. That and we're hoping that I guessed the right weekend for the WDW marathon because we're going to be running that the weekend after we get back in port.

We've never been on a civilian cruise, we were both in the navy and stationed on an aircraft carrier. Neither one of us gets sea sick and we're looking forward to being on a ship and not having to go to work!

Welcome, welcome! I second that on the holiday thing. I have so much to catch up on!

Congrats on the wedding!

This is our first cruise period, civilian or otherwise, so I am definitely hoping we did not inherit the seasick gene.

About the sea sickness, if you start to feel ill, get down into your stateroom, don't watch anything that could sway, like a clothes hanger for example. Then on the other hand if you want to make someone sick, have them watch something that sways. I mean, that's only if you want to be mean to someone.

Haha, well here's hoping things turn out okay. Just think, in one year, we will be on our way back to Canaveral! Gosh, I am sad, just thinking about it.

Well, if this year goes anything like last year, our cruise will be here before I know it! Last year flew by for us, and this year is going to be super busy. My sister's having a baby, gotta go visit, my fiance's little sister is getting married in May, going to their wedding, the best man in our wedding is getting married in Sept, my fiance will be there but we're hoping we can both make it, and then in Nov we get married, then it's Christmas and bam! time for our cruise!

Oh man I can't wait!

Wow, good luck with EVERYTHING! Sounds like you definitely have your plate full.

It really feels like the countdown has begun. I mean, when you think about it, once Halloween hits, it is all downhill from there. Then, you are planning for Thanksgiving; then, you are planning for Christmas, which usually flies. Then, you are recovering from Christmas, taking down decorations, etc. Then it will be cruise time!

So, when you really think about it, we have maybe a good 9 months to plan, before we get inundated with the holiday thing.

Wow, I really feel like I need to start making a list.

Hi Everyone! My name is Nicole, and I just got back yesterday from a fabulous 4-night Wonder cruise, and I re-booked onboard for this 7-Night cruise!!! I'm so excited! It makes it a lot easier to process the whole "just got home thing, so sad not to be on the cruise anymore" since I can already look forward to my next one!! Hello! Thanks for welcoming me to the thread. I'm so excited to be talking with a whole new group of DISers already for my next cruise! I had so much fun with our DISmeet onboard and the Fish Extender exchange, I can't wait to do it all over again!

You are absolutely right about the awesome location of the Yacht and Beach Club resorts, my family and I have stayed there for 13 years and refuse to stay anywhere else. We absolutely love the sand bottom pool and the beach area, and we always get a lagoon view room because it is so nice to look over the lake at the boardwalk. Being close to Epcot is a great plus too as you said. And yes, we LOVE beaches 'n' cream, last year we finally tried the famous "Kitchen Sink" sundae with 20 some scoops of ice cream and every topping in this huge "sink" dish, and they come out and sing to you...it was so cool!

So glad to be going on this cruise. I'm so excited to do a 7 night finally, the 4 nights I've done were nice but not nearly enough time to do a lot on the ship, so I'm really looking forward to the 3 sea days onboard the Magic!

You should go on YouTube and search for kitchen sink sundae...I looked it up last year and found a hilarious 2 minute video of how they make it and bring it out, I love watching it!

I don't think we'll be staying at the Yacht Club the night before our cruise, but at this point I'm really not sure what our plans are. For my Wonder cruise last Sunday we flew in early Saturday morning and drove right to PC and stayed at the Radisson, which was certainly not Disney deluxe resort level but more than adequate for a 1-night stay. Nice pool, close to restaurants where we could watch the Magic and other ships leave, etc. And as you said it was nice not to have to get up early that morning since we were already there.

I'm not sure if I want to do that again, or maybe do WDW first...the only thing I'm worried about is the cost and crowds of WDW for New Years Eve, New Years Day, etc. I've never been there that time of year before. I've always dreamed about being in Magic Kingdom for the midnight fireworks on NYE, but I'm not sure about the feasibility regarding crowds and cost. Also I do know that Yacht Club rates skyrocket around holidays and peak times...we've gone many years for Spring Break when it was $800/night for a lagoon view club level, still over $500 for a regular non-view room. The last time we did Disney was Christmas week of 2004. It seems like it was just yesterday, but it has been 4 years, the longest we have ever gone without a trip to Disney in my lifetime. Such is life...

Our last night there was NYE, and it was a blast. Of course, I had never seen so much imbibing on Disney grounds. We spent the day split between MGM and Epcot. We watched the Illuminations NYE fireworks from Mexico in the World Showcase, and we could also see MGM's fireworks from our vantage point.

I would highly recommend going to anyone to try Disney that time of year, if you can ever afford it. The only downside is the crowds are definitely peak season level. But, it is just so magical. Even if you don't do the parks as extensively as normal, the resorts and DTD and the whole place is just as wonderful.

This is our second cruise, we cruised the Disney magic December 13th/08 (Western) We loved it so much, I had to rebook, but this time on the Eastern. We plan on coming down on the 30th to Orlando, and go to Sea World one day, and maybe shop the other day before we cruise. Any advice for what hotel to stay in. I haven't booked it yet.

The weather will be great, yes when we got back from the last cruise, temps here were -40degrees celcius. Not sure what that is in Fahrenheit, but was very cold. Today is -15 so not to bad.

Right now things are looking good for DH to get another job, so at least we'll still be able to get our Disney Cruise fix! This will be our 6th Disney Cruise - 5th on the Magic. We've been both Western and Eastern and LOVE Eastern more. Those cruising in our party and ages at time of sailing: DD(65), DM(65), me(43), DH(43), DS(17, but turns 18 the week after the cruise - bummer), and DS(15). This will be our boys' last week of Christmas vacation from school, and a great way to start the year! We're about 1-1/2 hours away from Disneyland, so we are definite Disney FREAKS I've always relied on the dis to get me through the seemingly long time before each cruise!!

Regarding your son who will be one week shy of 18 on the cruise...if he wants to participate in the adult stuff, it won't be a problem. I was 17 on my first cruise and did Palo, always went to the adult pool, Serenity Bay adult beach, cabana massages...the only thing I couldn't do was go in the adult "club" area because they had CM's carding at the doors...BUT on my Wonder cruise last month, they did not have anyone carding at the doors, ever. So he could definitely go there too. He won't have a problem doing any of the other stuff I mentioned either...he's actually in a good place because he can do the teen stuff if he wants, or the adult stuff, or a little of both!
