Hi all -- it's been awhile since I've been on here because 1.) I've been out of my Disney bubble and it only made me more sad to envelope myself with it here and 2.) because I haven't been able to think of taking a vacation the last couple of years, so see #1 ;)

I'm hoping someone can help - I completely forgot about my 2012 points and now I am at a 0% banking window (I know alot of you have been here), so my 2 choices are to just book and go and live life (1st choice) or to see about selling them. I have never sold my points before and wouldn't know where to start. I have to use them by 7/31/13.

Advice?

If this is the first time this has happened, it's been rumored that they will still bank them for you. Supposedly there's a "one-time forgiveness" thing. Can't say from experience (I have some built in reminders in the family :lmao:), but I've read stories.

You could try that.

If you are unable to bank your points, you could try contacting forum sponsor David's Vacation Club Rentals to see if renting out your points ASAP is feasible.

I will try that, thank you for the suggestion :thumbsup2 Even if it doesnt work, its worth a try!

You want to "rent" your points.

Actually, I dont but may not have a choice! :rotfl: Thank you for telling me the correct terminology! We will see what David says....

I suggested a no-park trip to the fiance, but since we have been talking to his daughter about going with us for a year, he wont go now without her so unless I go on my own with a friend we will have to rent them out.

Another thought, since they are not banked, you could transfer them to another member who would then need to use them before they expired.

thats a thought...would I post it somewhere here to see if there is a need?

Check out the rent/trade board. Read the sticky at the top on posting rules. :)

if i understand OP correctly, the points are past the banking window, so would need an exception just to make them "banked points".
and banked points can't be transferred (tho transferred points can be banked:)).

Right, not banked may be transferred. Never know, another member may want to take her points for a short notice summer trip.

Many years ago Member services did this for me, if memory serves me I had just missed the banking period.. I don't recall if I had just some points or my entire year. It's worth checking on.

If you MS won't let you bank and if your schedule allows I'd look for a friend and go. If your friends are like mine they will love you forever for offering them a trip to the World. How many points do you have?

Actually, the banking deadline doesn't apply to transferred points, although Disney could change the rule at any time. The recipient of the points does, however, have to either bank or use the points before the end of the use year. I have been able to bank transferred points 2 months before the end of the use year.

You could call Member Services about depositing them into RCI, for a trip which could be taken up to 2 years from now. $95 transaction fee. There is also the "one time forgiveness" banking that I know MS used to do. (Don't know if they still do, but they did it for me in 2010 when I forgot to bank). The Rent/Trade board here on the DIS is an option, but you have to had made 50 posts in the last 6 months in order to offer your points for rent. (Don't know if you have or not). I know if it were possible, I would book a trip before your expiration date. You might actually find availability at some of the larger resorts. Good luck!

I agree. 100% :)
If you can take the time, grab a friend and go. I do this once a year and it makes for an awesome trip!

i think we are actually saying the same thing (almost) :):
simply, banked points cannot be transferred, however, transferred points can be banked.
tho i'm not sure what you mean by "the banking deadline doesn't apply to transferred points" - banking deadlines do apply to transferred points as said in your second sentence.

personally, i like the "grab a friend and go before the points expire" option :thumbsup2

I like the "grab and go" option as well. :rotfl2: Apologies for the confusion. What I meant by my example was to point out the normal requirement that you must bank 4 months before the end of your use year doesn't apply to the transferred points. The points I got were a June use year and I could have banked them on May 31st instead of the normal January 31st. I know it seems like that shouldn't be the case, but it is. I got my transferred points from the Timeshare store and that's what they told me and they were right!
