Hi everyone,

I'm just sharing (for those of you that haven't noticed yet) that the DIS puts out several podcasts for Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Whether you just have a computer, or if you have a smart phone or iPod, you can listen to these shows either through iTunes, or right here on the DIS by going to the Podcast link at the top of the boards. Link here: http://www.disunplugged.com/.

The DIS Unplugged Disneyland Edition records live every Sunday at 7pm (Disneyland time), where we talk about Disneyland. We also have segments recorded live at 8pm where we focus on different topics. Nancy just started a series about going to Disneyland with young children. This week, she talked about the "free years" and things to do when you're going to the parks with young children, she also has several shopping segments. Tom has reviewed several Good Neighbor hotels, and continues to do so, Tony reviews different restaurants, or does a challenge for dining on a budget, and he does "March Madness" with brackets for attractions, etc. That is always fun. Michael's segments are about the history of Disney and Disneyland. He also has a show with Producer Craig called Connecting with Walt - fantastic shows. My segments are things to do on Day 6, when you don't have that ticket to go to Disneyland or California Adventure. There are so many other things to do here in Southern California, and I love sharing those ideas.

We don't have a separate board for Podcast discussion, but we do have a sticky thread with an index of our shows (Tom updates it every week), and we have this whole forum to talk about Disneyland. We welcome listeners to post either on the thread or right here in the forum:

DIS Unplugged: Disneyland Edition Index - LIVE every Sunday! NEW TIME!!

I also have a thread for Day 6 ideas, and would love input: Day 6 Ideas for 2016

For anyone who wondered, here's our team:

Your podcasts are much recommended! I looove listening to them, and they have been a great help to me in my planning of our upcoming trip this summer, when we are travelling over from Denmark.

Thanks Mary Jo and the rest of the team!

As a person who knows Disney World well, but has never been to Disneyland, I have found the Disneyland podcasts invaluable in planning for our trip this spring. I have gotten so much helpful information - for places to eat, tours to take, where to stay, and fun things to do outside the parks. I appreciate the detail provided about the different topics, which really helps me, as I have had much to learn.

One thing I especially enjoyed, for example, was hearing about the Tam O Shanter restaurant Walt Disney used to frequent. We added a couple days in LA to our trip so that we could go there and to Griffith Park Observatory and also ride on the carousel that helped inspire the building of Disneyland.

So I highly recommend the podcast too! Excellent information and entertaining.

Thanks Mary Jo. I discovered these after replying to your Day Six post. I didn't realize Day Six already existing and was ongoing. :) I listened to HB and then Courtyard Marriott last night. Thanks for all you do!

:welcome: to the DIS! I'm glad that you enjoy listening to them. Let us know when you come out, and if you'd like we'll try to meet up and say hello.

I'm excited that you are going to visit Griffith Park, etc. One of my DIS friends, who is also a Disneyland cast member, just did a similar visit with her friends. They went to the Griffith Park Carousel, Walt's Barn (open 3rd Saturday of each month), Walt's Grave, and visited the Great Mausoleum to see the Last Supper presentation, and tried to go to Tam O'Shanter, but there was a private party, so they'll go next time. It was a special day for them, and they really enjoyed it. I bet you will, too. The Observatory is just on the other side of the hill from the carousel, so it will be easy to do all of it in one day. :)

We love sharing what we know, and learning more from everyone here, too. :)

Thanks for listening!

I've listened to your Yosemite and Sequoia podcasts and they were wonderful! We still have one free day in Southern CA for our upcoming trip and I plan on listening to a few more of your podcasts to get a better idea of what to do.

We've never been to Southern Ca before and have heard horror stories about the driving. We were thinking about a tour that would take us to a few of the 'tourist' spots' like the Hollywood walk of fame but we would also like to visit one of the beaches for a couple of hours. Do you recommend driving for first timers? The tours are pricey for a family of five and wondering if we can hit some highlights on our own.

Thank you!

Personally, other than the congestion, I don't think driving in Los Angeles is really that bad. I found driving in Boston to be more challenging with drivers not wanting to allow others to merge, etc. My advice is to be alert and drive defensively and you shouldn't have a problem. I recommend having a GPS (I like to use Waze on my Smartphone) and have the settings to quickest route, avoid toll roads, and you should do fine. For your LA day, I'd make up an itinerary with brief written directions to help you navigate.

A couple of options you would have is to go to Santa Monica on the same day you visit Hollywood, or take another day and drive to either Newport Beach or Huntington Beach.

Thank you for your comments about Yosemite/Sequoia. I'm going to Yosemite again in May and can hardly wait.

Thanks Mary Jo! I recently started listening to the DL Show since our family has booked our 1st trip to DL for August 2016. We're WDW vets and are really looking forward to heading West and you all have been really helpful in helping our family navigate through the planning process. I look forward to listening to your shows every week.

I would love to hear some thoughts about ideas for families who do not plan to rent a vehicle during their stay. In the spirit of "leave the driving to us", we have booked a small-group 10-hour tour that goes into LA for one of the days to see the sights.

Keep up the fantastic work!

Thank you for listening. We've mentioned tours in the past, but I think your idea for a segment dedicated to various tours you can take is probably due. I'm tagging Tom (@ImTooExcitedToSleep) so he can see this post. :)

I have to laugh at this because we're from Boston! So maybe we will be okay driving in LA. Thanks for the advice, I was kind of thinking Santa Monica as well. I think the kids would enjoy it (3 teens).

Oops - I'll amend that to "some drivers." I will tell you, though. I got to go to Boston twice on business, and I did a check-in at Logan airport. Six DIS friends sent me messages on Facebook. Two of them took the day off of work, and we did a 'walking tour,' and I had dinner with the other ones at three different restaurants (highlight for me was eating dinner at Mamma Maria's while looking out towards Paul Revere's house). I LOVE Boston!

As Mary Jo alluded to, the problem in LA is more the volume of traffic and long distances involved. Lots of folks make the mistake of thinking Santa Monica and Hollywood are just around the corner from Disneyland and get frustrated when they find themselves wasting hours driving back and forth taking day trips from Anaheim.

Thanks for posting about this! I'm planning my first visit to DL since I was a child (this weekend!), and I've been listening to the podcasts as I'm planning my trip. They've definitely helped keep me excited about the trip and have been trying to figure out the differences with WDW. I especially like the restaurant reviews and updates, since eating in an allergy friendly place is a big part of what we love about Disney parks.

Thanks for the new ideas, Mary Jo! I had no idea there was so much to see at Forest Lawn. It looks wonderful, including the stained glass artwork. Now, just to convince my husband that visiting a cemetery on vacation is a good idea... I wish Walt's barn was open when we'll be in the Griffith Park area, but we are at least hoping to ride the small train that looks similar to the kind he had. Just learned about that. There is so much to see and do.

Just started listening to the podcast. I really love it. I'm the only one that thinks that Michael sounds like John Malkovich?

I love listening to the podcast, being from the UK I am unable to listen live! However, I listen to all the Disunplugged podcasts on my journeys to and from work :).

We are Disney World veterans, however we will be visiting Disneyland (our 4th trip) in September/October this year. We are planning a 3 week road trip so will be travelling from San Francisco, down the coast to San Diego, back up to Anaheim then ending in Las Vegas:yay:. I am appreciating more the day six episodes and I enjoy the ones when you talk about the beaches, we will definitely be visiting some of the state beaches.

I look forward to future episodes which will help with the planning of the Anaheim part of the trip :dogdance:

:welcome: to the DIS! I'm glad that you enjoy listening to them. Let us know when you come out, and if you'd like we'll try to meet up and say hello.[...]

Thanks a lot Mary Jo.. Yeah, would love to do that, we will be there 6/15 - 6/18.. Have a great weekend :-)

I remember hearing somewhere, that if you want to enhance your enjoyment of something, learn more about it. Well the Dis Unplugged Disneyland edition podcast has truly enhanced my and my wife's enjoyment of Disneyland! Certainly through education, as we have learned so much about the park from the pod cast, but we've also gotten so much help for planning our trips, learned how to negotiate crowds, and dialed in how we best like to spend our time while we are there. Also, the podcasts have really enhanced our anticipation of our trips, as we get so excited for our trips learning more about how to enjoy the park.

Most importantly however, I really like the people that do the podcast. Their personalities really come through in what they do, and they really "give of themselves" to help us enjoy our fandom of Disney. I hope I get to meet each of them some day to say thank you. Thank you Mary Jo et al. for the amazing service that you provide us!
