Superman may be the man of steel but steel is far from the ultimate material. Many thing can cut steel without trouble, even lasers.


Otherwise an intersting question because lighsabers don't always obey the laws of physics. In some scenes they work and some they don't, not behaving the same all the time. I would have to say maybe it just depends on what the director want done in the scene.
